I just think its ridiculous to post something like that when within the past 24 hours there have been plenty of posts about how great it was for Pujols to get hurt.

This kind of argument sounds familiar...hmmmm...

Not considered very good sportsmanship. Plus, how would you feel if you broke a bone and heard someone on the opposing bench say, "good! hope he's out for awhile!"

I'm not saying people were saying that about Pujols in the other forum though, because I really didn't read that thread much so I don't know.

I'm not a sportsman, I don't have to have good sportsmanship.

If a rival newspaper was glad to find out I had carpal tunnel and would be out for awhile, I'd be honored.

If you are throwing a sacrificial lamb out there to start against us when your team is terrible on the road, why even start Chipper Jones. Let the poor man rest.

I'll put that one on Dusty Baker's Reds more than Looper though. They made his life pretty easy.

Eff you, Greg Norton.

Edited for clarification.

I know what a straw man is, its no big deal.

I agree with the idea that who cares what people say. Injuries happen.

From soxtalk:
Possible good news for the Sox....Soriano just got hit in the hand, hopefully it's broke or effects him for the next few weeks when we play them 6 times

k thnx idiot

Give me a break.

People were jumping with joy around here when the Pujols news broke.

That's an exaggeration at best. I think the most excited reactions came from those that don't want Cardinals' fans to have an excuse that they didn't win the division, which is hardly jumping for joy.

Please find these quotes. I don't remember anything similar to "hopefully its broken".

Call me insensitive but I don't see why it's such a big deal. As long as it's not career threatening, why do you have to hope that a great player on a competing team isn't injured?

Pujols is making a ton of money and will be able to resume his career fully so if it helps the Cubs chances, I hope he's out for a while.

I'm not cheering for the injury in attendance. I don't see it as a violation of sportsmanship when it's a fan on a message board hundreds of miles away.

Again if it's amateur sports or a career/life threatening injury it's a whole different story. Albert will still make his $10 million and will resume his career without lingering problems. So if his being out for an extended period of time helps the Cubs, I don't see why I need to hope he gets well as soon as possible.

Remember back when our offense was making crap look like Cy Young? That sucked. I wonder why that hasn't happened lately...

The more good players you take off their roster, the stronger they become.

Which is why I found it ironic when ESPN asked him for advice to give to Joba Chamberlain. Two answers he could give. Hey kid, wear a Cardinal jersey. Or, Don't do what I am.

Is it too early to say that the Wild Card will come out of the NL Central? At this point, I really can't see anyone else putting up a fight. It will probably be between the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers for 2 playoff spots.

I think there's about a 2:1 chance it comes out of the Central at this point:

I'm pretty Brewers skeptical, but it seems likely.

Is Chipper trying to hit a sky hook out there?

He must be feeling a bit better than he's letting on to still be in the game at this point.

I think O_O was saying that you are using the 'straw man' fallacy. In creating a facsimile of an argument, and then defeating it, doesn't mean that you have defeated the original argument.

This is thinking really far ahead and making a lot of assumptions, but hey, I don't care... the Cubs should pray that wild card comes out of the Central. If it does, they'll play the NL West champion, which is sure to be weaker than the wild card winner.

Yes, I know that's thinking way too far ahead.

The ironic point of Soriano missing any time is there's a good chance it'll improve the Cub lineup. Be it Hoffpauir or Murton they'll bring more OBP to the lineup and it certainly won't hurt.
