I think people are overreacting a little. Soriano is a good player, he's not a great player. The loss of Gallardo is much bigger than this and the loss of Pujols is comparable.

If this team collapses due to the loss of a mid to high .800's OPS guy with poor defense, then they have other problems.

These are my thoughts as well. I mean, Soriano is great, but he can occasionally be a bit frustrating, and it's not like he's putting up MVP numbers.

If this doesn't move Fukudome to the top of the order I'm going to flip out.

Fukudome

Theriot

Lee

Ramirez

Soto

Derosa

Murton

Johnson/Edmonds

Still looks pretty good.

If that pitch had hit anyone else, would it have broken their hand? It seems like anything that could potentially injure Soriano does.

Yes it probably would have. They may not have been starting their swing and thus could have turned away from it though.

I see no reason for anything but Murton or a Murton/Hoff platoon to be in left field. No need to trade valuable assets to get something new.

I say we call up Murton and have him sit on the bench for four weeks, giving him one pinch hit AB every five days.

I'm willing to bet like nine bajillion dollars that Fukudome will not be leading off.

I get the feeling a rental in LF just got bumped up the trade deadline target list.

Hoffpauir and Murton can come in and produce adequately, but losing Soriano for a minimum of 6 weeks hurts badly.

Brian Giles.

Wouldn't be a bad choice, but even on the road he's not hitting for much power. His BABIP is a tad high, which makes me think he'll have a bit of a slump in the near future.

I'm back and forth on the idea. It could work.

He's OPSing .951 away from Petco. .338 BABIP is a tad high, but I still think he'd OPS .850-880 in NLC

I agree, but I see no reason for Murton to be a part of it.
