John Danks is pitching tonight for the Sox. Unlike Gavin Floyd, whose K:BB ratio is horrifyingly scary, Danks looks like he's legit. His ERA+ sits at 143 through 57 IP spanning 10 starts. His WHIP is right around 1.20. He's struck out 42 while walking only 17. Kid's for real.

Do we have a thread like this except for the Cardinals, because honestly their performance is far more ridiculous and unlikely then the White Sox playing slightly above .500 baseball.

Their win-loss should be reversed, and they just keep rolling.

Yes. This is right. What the Cardinals are doing is unfathomable. Through the first third of the season they have the 3rd best record in baseball with a starting rotation that is playing way above their collective heads, a closer with an 8.00 ERA, really only 2 or 3 proven commodities in their starting line up, and a super star whose arm may fall off at any minute.

You figure those starting pitchers have to eventually regress to their career norms. Especially as the innings pile up. Wainright is the only guy to pitch 200 innings in a season since 2003 and Wellemeyer will surpass his career high in IP in his next two or three starts. Eventually the non-performance of the back end of their bull pen has to catch up to them, and eventually teams are going to be able to start pitching around the holes in their starting line up.

That the Sox are 7 games above .500 isn't as surpising as the fact that neither Detroit or Cleveland are doing better and are actually doing substantially worse. If either Detroit or Cleveland play to expectations, the Sox are a nice story, but not that big a deal.

The Sox had a bunch of players that simply didn't perform to career expectations last year. They were due for a rebound this year.

We keep preaching that there's no such thing as proven commodities and AAAA players, that if you can hit in the minors you can hit in the majors. It sucks that the Cardinals figured it out before we did.

From the admin of their forum

Because they're the flubbies and the flubbies suck $%#...

You are on the wrong forums. No one here gives one rats patoot whether the flubbies are legitimate or not.

Which is why they have a 21 page thread about whether the Cubs are legitimate or not. You know, the thread that you posted the above comment in.

Then the admin follows up with this:

Welcome to WSI. Even flubbie fans are welcome here, but we're pretty strict about trolling, so please keep your joy about the flubbies or any negative emotions you have about the Sox to a minimum. This forum isn't really intended for people to discuss the flubbies that way. It's more of a baseball garbage dump because a certain number of posters are flubsessed. You are welcome to post here, but there are probably better places for you to discuss the flubbies in a rational manner. Expect to get hammered regularly if you continue to post here and it will be your responsibility to keep the conversation on track and not react to little things like me mis-spelling your team's name every time I type it, something you are not free to reciprocate on, just FYI.

Honestly, some of the people (just from a few pages that I read), seem to be legitimately knowledgeable baseball fans, but the admin is a freaking [expletive].

It's amazing the short memory of Sox fans. They're discounting the Cubs because they are beating the teams they should beat and winning at home - which is exactly the formula the Sox used to get off to a big lead in 2005.

Boy, if the Cubs do win the World Series this year, that board is going to implode.

The Sox are a good team b/c of that staff, it's going to keep them competitive throughout the year. That's more b/c of the weak division than a team you can peg at as a likely 90 win season. The Sox faced one of the better staffs over the last 4 days and it showed how they struggle to score espec. with RISP.

With that offense and whether it's b/c the hand of Konerko and the lack of bat speed from Thome, they're going to be up and down. A bigger mystery should be Swisher who started out hot at leadoff and then cooled and hasn't been nearly as good. He did hit some hard today though.

I was the guilty party who was over there mixing it up with some of those morons. Their hatred for the Cubs blinds them to the simple fact that at this point in the season the Cubs have the best team in baseball. Popular opinion for why it won't continue:

1. The Cubs can't win on the road: I guess being all of 3 games under is the death blow, even though only 4 teams in MLB are over 500 away from home.

2. We have lucked out playing every bad team in the league (Pirates...Pirates...Pirates) and when we face a good team we don't see their best pitchers/players. Although even when you include the Pirates record against the Cubs, it still puts them above the vaunted Tigers and Indians in the suddenly weak AL Central. And, although I'm not a statistician, I think that after a third of the season, every team's schedule starts to even itself out.

3. (My favorite) The Cubs always choke. Like this year's team really cares or is affected in any way by the woeful teams of the past.

Idiot Sox fans (I distinguish because there are good baseball fans on the southside as well) completely ignore that this is the most balanced and talented Cubs team since 84 at a minimum. They can't face facts, they simply talk conjecture about what the future may hold. Meanwhile, they ignore that their team can't hit and that they are relying on a 40+ year old pitcher and two other guys who haven't even pitched a full season in the bigs....Good luck to them, they'll need it!

From what I've seen over there, he considers negative talk about the White Sox or their players to be against the rules. He threatened to ban one poster for suggesting that Konerko's decline could be related to steroids.

Do you really think the White Sox are a good team? I think they are an average team in an underperforming divison, but sooner or later Cleveland or Detroit will put a streak together to get back into the race.

They have 4 quality starters right now and Buehrle. That's going to keep them in the game almost every night, they have a very good bullpen, and have played more road games than home. They're not as strong as LAA, Bos, or prob. TB, but what it'll take to win the division won't likely require that.

I didn't expect Thome, Konerko, or Swisher to tank like they have and if any of them start producing they should win the division.

Although, I do question the stamina of Danks and Contreras.

They'll likely finish around 85-86 wins and unless something dramatic happens with Det. and Clev, that should be enough to get by Minnesota.

I thought what Guillen said in the post-game conference was about as classless as I have heard from a manager in a long-time.

White Sox general manager Ken Williams isn't amused by manager Ozzie Guillen's latest tirade.

On Sunday, after the White Sox lost to the Rays on a walk-off homer in the 10th inning, Guillen ripped into his team again and called for Williams to make roster changes before Chicago plays its next game, Tuesday at home against the Kansas City Royals.

"I expect [general manager] Kenny [Williams] to do something Tuesday. Because if we don't do anything Tuesday, there's [going to be] a lot of change in the lineup. That's all I'm going to say about the offense," said Guillen, whose comments were spiced with an occasional expletive.

In an e-mail to the Chicago Tribune, Williams said he wasn't pleased.

"It's just not a good idea to throw your boss under the bus, especially when that boss has had your back as much as I have had his," Williams wrote. "I expect this team, if the leadership remains positive and the players stick together and continue to play hard, it will be a fun summer.

I like how Kenny forgot he was using an appositive in the last quote.

Interesting note: The two teams with the best records in baseball (Cubs 36-21 and Rays 35-22) have played the least amount of road games as any other team so far this season (23 each). Both these teams are about to embark on long stretches on the road (Cubs 23 of 32 and Rays 15 of 24). This should be a great test for both these clubs.

That wasn't the worst part though was he threw Hitting Coach Greg Walker under the bus, which is pathetic.

"I expect Kenny Williams to do something Tuesday, and if we don't do anything Tuesday, there are going to be a lot of lineup changes. That's all I'm going to say about the offense. It can be me. It can be (hitting coach) Greg Walker. It can be the players. It could be anybody," he said. "I'm sick and tired to watch this thing for a year and a half. I'm not protecting anybody anymore. (Bleep) it. If they can't get it done, Kenny should find someone to get it done."

Considering that all but two road series (Rockies & Nationals) have been against teams right at or above .500, I think the Cubs should improve or stay right around .500 on the road. They do that and win 50 or more games at home the division should be theirs.
