Jim Edmonds Signs With Cubs, Pie to AAA

I understand hating rival teams. I absolutely despise all things Cardinals and Yankees. So let's rewind to where we were a few months ago when A-Rod was supposedly testing the free agent waters. You're seriously saying that if you really hate the Yankees that you wouldn't want to sign A-Rod because he played for the Yankees? That's preposterous. I would use Pujols as an example, but I don't want to get into a Lee vs. Pujols debate on a freakin Jim Edmonds thread.

 

It is ridiculous to hate a player just because he played for a rival team and is now on your team. I hated Jim Edmonds because he was a Cardinal, just like I hated all of the Cardinals players. But if we actually signed a good player from the Cardinals, I wouldn't give a damn if he played for that team as long as he contributes to my team winning. I highly doubt Jim Edmonds is going to contribute anything positive to this team, so that's why I hate the signing. Not because of the fact he was with a rival ballclub for several years.

 

The Yanks are different then the Cardinals. I can't think of anyone on the Yanks that I really dislike. I can't watch Mussina pitch, but other then that......

 

Also, there's a big difference between what kind of a player Jim Edmonds is right now and what ARod is right now. If Pujols could play CF and he was a FA I'd want the Cubs to sign him. Jim Edmonds............ not so much.

 

Right, which is the point I was trying to make. Like I said, I would've used the Pujols example, but I'm not going to get into a debate that's been beaten to death time after time after time on here.

 

A-Rod and Pujols are bad comparisons as they are players with several good years ahead of them.

 

As a Yankee fan I detested the signing of Damon. But the Edmonds signing would be more comparable to the Yankees signing Jason Varitek. That would absolutely drive me insane! I can easily understand the hatred carrying over even when players go to another team! I can think of MANY Red Sox and Met players I would have hated to have on the Yankees!

That's a better comparison - Damon. If you hate the Yankees (I do, but not the players, the owner and some fans), would you be more pissed than usual if the Cubs acquired Damon? I'd be pissed if they signed Damon b/c he sucks, but I don't hate Damon.

 

Also, and this is really my point, there aren't a ton of players I hate. Very few actually. JH just picked the one that I probably hate the most. Personally, I don't hate Edmonds b/c he was a Cardinal, but that doesn't make me like him more either. I'm simply saying that I can understand a fan of one team not wanting their team to sign a player from a rival team. Again, personally, if the player was good/great and I didn't dislike him, I wouldn't care (if he was great and I hated him, that'd be a tougher question). But to be an old bad player that I hate that played his best years with the Cardinals while they were winning divisions (and a WS) - yes, I don't want him on my team.

 

If this debate were because the Cubs signed Pujols or even an ok player from the Cardinals, I could understand a bit more. But to have all of these people attack posters for venting frustration over the signing of Edmonds...seems like you're just trying to pick a fight to me.

The Cubs are prepared to move Kosuke Fukudome to center on occasion, using Micah Hoffpauir in right and relagating Edmonds to the bench, if not out the door.
