And kind of alienates Girardi in the process...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3356490

I want him as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now. There is no question about it, you don't have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don't do that. You have to be an idiot to do that.

Also kind of took a jab at Mussina...

"I think once Hughes and Kennedy get plenty of starts and get Joba back, and with [Chien-Ming] Wang and [Andy] Pettitte, we will be fine," Steinbrenner told The Times.

The one name missing from that list is current starter Mike Mussina. Steinbrenner also had a suggestion for the starting pitcher who owns 251 victories in an 18-year career.

"[Mussina] just needs to learn how to pitch like [45-year-old Phillies pitcher] Jamie Moyer," Steinbrenner told the newspaper. Moyer is known as a crafty pitcher who doesn't have an overpowering fastball.

I'm not going to say I disagree with him necessarily, but the way he handles these situations is quite obnoxious. Nothing like demeaning your staff and players to start the day off right!

"Hey Joe, you starting Joba yet?"

"No. Not yet, let's give it another week or two."

"You're an idiot."

"Hey Mike, you're need to change your approach"

"Well I'm working on it but I've been pretty good in my career with how I've pitched"

"Screw off, you're out of the rotation. True, I've never been a manager before, but I know what's best!"

Seriously why doesn't he just fire Girardi and don the manager uniform? Then again he's got the position and the power we all wish we had on the Cubs, but still. His arrogance is old already

I feel sorry for Girardi. He looks like a decent manager (at least from the short time that he has been one) and he seems to have egotistical jerks who don't seem to be that bright as he boss.

Boy, this guy hasn't wasted any time turning into a world class idiot. If he wanted Joba starting and throwing 150 pitches/game, he should have hired Dusty Baker. Good thing Steinbrenner can decide whats best on the field after 20 games. What a clown. I hope Girardi gets fired and then somehow gets the Mets managing job and wins 3 World Series in a row or something (obviously after the Cubs win a minimum of 6 in a row).

The apple does not fall far from the tree.

It sure doesn't. It must be in the Steinbrenner gene pool, I guess.

Why does ESPN think people care so much about Joba Chamberlain? He's thrown 30 innings in the big leagues. Is it because he's fat? Is it because he's Native American? Funny name? Because he's a Yankee? I understand he's a good pitcher, but come on.

This is main section of ESPN's home page right now. They're devoting an entire chat to the topic, as well as five other articles. This is absurd.

Too much Yankee/Red Sox talk is the reason why I stopped watching Baseball Tonight. I feel like those two teams are on a mission to annoy the hell out of me.

It's because he is a Yankee. ESPN, still after all these years has not realized that there is a lot more to MLB than just the Yankees. It is silly isn't it? In a year when the Yankees are terrible and will probably finish lower in the standings that the Devil Rays, they will still get plenty of national coverage from ESPN.

For Joba's sake I would hope they would wait until the offseason for this. Let him begin in spring training, let him work his arm strength back up to pitch more than 5 innings. I think he might do fine, but still his health is way too important to toy with at all.

Looks like Hank changed his mind. I guess that makes him an idiot.

But really, do you want to ruin a talented young pitcher by giving him that much of an increased workload? Was he a starter on the farm? Aren't all relievers failed starters?

He started most of last year until it was obvious that the Yankees needed him in the bullpen down the stretch at which point they moved him into that role at AAA.

Carlos Marmol or Joba Chamberlain?

The homerism in me, and my anti-Yankees disdain would obviously make me pick Carlos Marmol. But since his been called up, Joba has been as good as Marmol, in perhaps a tougher division and league. I prolly still go Marmol, because hs secondary pitch (The Slider) is prolly better then Joba's secondary pitches. But dang, that would be hard to chose from.

My personal opinion on the thing is that he wants to keep the Yankees in the news. Right now, Isaiah is the big headline. Second on the list of stories is probably how the Mets are climbing in the standings. The Steinbrenners need to say things like this whether they believe it or not to get people talking about the Yanks. Who even knows if he really believes what he says.

Hank? Oh trust me, he's popping off because it's in his genes. He doesn't know how to shut up any more than his Dad did. And it looks like he also can't resist the urge to meddle.....like father like son.

I had to look twice to see that it was the Yankees you were referencing. You know, pots and kettles...
