Even though Scott Hatteberg has more experience against lefties, Baker stuck with Votto as he has for the past several days. Baker informed Hatteberg that Votto would be his main man at first base going forward.

"Today was a big day for him because of that left-handed pitcher," Baker said. "It was a great day. I told you it was coming. I just had to see a little more aggressiveness and bat speed, which we've seen coming the last couple of weeks."

Clearly Votto's newfound refusal to take a walk is the cause.

:D

But seriously, did he give him a choice?

I know you're being sarcastic, but just wait. A lot of us cut Dusty a ton of slack in 2003, but then saw the error of our ways.

And Votto is the exception, not the rule when it comes to Dusty. I guarantee if his OBP was 40 or so points higher than his batting average, Dusty would bench him. Dusty likes his "agressiveness" at the plate, because it's called "hitting," not "walking," dude. Just wait until Votto is hacking at everything, struggling to post an OBP over .300 and striking out 1 in every 3.5 AB's. Then praise Dusty.

Oh, he'll end up hating Dusty. If you go back through my posts over my tenure here, you can see my transformation from one who always tried to give Dusty the benefit of the doubt when no one else would to wanting him fired from Chicago via cannon.

If you are an informed and perceptive fan, you literally can't deal with him for very long without nearly losing your mind.

I used to like Dusty a lot, too...back when I was terribly uninformed about baseball. I defended him quite a bit on this forum, even quit coming here for a while because I thought the Dusty bashing was completely out of line.

...I'm so glad you guys set me straight. I owe you one.

Corey Patterson still your starting CF. But he's turned around his career, I forgot

Never said that.

And I'll give it until the end of June until Bruce is up. Rumor has it Dusty has wanted Bruce up since spring training, but Krivsky wouldn't allow it.

Damn Dusty.

And if Dusty starts messing up, I'll be right here ripping him. It's not like I have some ties to Dusty. If he messes up, I'll say he does.

It just hasn't come anywhere near happening, yet.

Rumor has it that the deal for Brian Roberts was completed quite some time ago.

Of course he did, Votto's off to a 13 for 37 start and Hatteberg is 4 for 23. The problem is that Dusty will look to change things up the first time Votto goes through a 1 for 15 spell, especially if Hatteberg has a couple strong outings.

Yeah that makes perfect sense and is right in line with Dusty's history.

Where the heck is Bruce gonna play?

Oh, and I love the whole Dusty taking credit for Votto's awesomeness in the OP. Great stuff.

Dude, don't do this to yourself. In no time you will be ](*,) at Dusty's decision. Going back to Hatteberg by the end of April, with Votto going to AAA for "more seasoning". Having Bruce stay in the minors till September because Patterson, Freel and Hopper are "his dudes." And then watch helplessly as Bruce rides the pine in September only getting sproadic at-bats because he has to "earn his due" as a major league.

The sooner you get on the "I hate Dusty bandwagon" the funnier his moves becomes, and the less frustration you will feel.

I was the same way until this day http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200505260.shtml The day the Dust man started batting Neifi leadoff.................. :blackeye:

My brother the Giants fan kept warning me in 2003. I was apprehensive towards Dusty but kept saying "look at the record?" by the middle of 2004 the light was shining bright and it clearly wasnt Dusty's smart managerial moves that was shining.

It is possible that Dusty is learning to try different ways to develop talent. Although seeing as he didn't learn between SF and the Cubs it isn't likely, plus he hasn't shown much learning in terms of accepting OBP and things like that(Starting and debunking your own arguments in the same post rules.)

He did play Patterson a lot and like someone mentioned Hee Seop Choi but the fact is they really didn't improve under him.

I'm pretty sure I was an all-out Dusty apologist for at least 03 and prob most of if not all of 04. Man did I feel stupid.

Grow up people. It was a shot at us for all the shots we have taken at him about Dusty. Get over it.

Let the jabs end both ways.

I think we need to redefine what is acceptable for an opposing team fan on this forum. This is what is listed now:

This is a Cub fan message board. Fans of rival teams are welcome here, but realize that fans of any rival team are naturally biased. Good-natured ribbing and friendly rivalry are acceptable. But the Cub fans who post here regularly have the right to not be baited into meaningless arguments. Stating what should be obvious -- that this is a Cubs discussion board -- does serve notice to other fans in a respectful manner that trolling behavior is neither welcomed nor tolerated.

I'm not saying anything that reds44 is doing is anything more than good-natured ribbing. But usually his posts are more aggressive than a majority of fans from other teams that post here. Especially when the topic is EXTREMELY sensitive (Dusty Baker).

This past series really summarizes the Dusty Baker experience:

get blown out in the first two games of the series, then hit a bunch of HRs to avoid the sweep, then take credit for a young player having a good game, then reward that young player with a couple days off.
