To anyone who knows the system and minors well, could Hart be a decent option at starter for us?

Decent, perhaps. The major obstacle to that at this point is that he's likely 9th in the pecking order for a starter this year, behind the current rotation and Lieber, Marshall and Gallagher.

Basically, I don't see it happening this year, barring some huge transactions involving 3 of the guys above him.

Cedeno's poor defense >>>>>>> Cedeno good bat

That's all I'm trying to say.

Cedno's poor defense + Cedeno's good bat > Theriot's average defense + Theriot's terrible bat.

If the bolded part were true, it would help your argument.

He's an interesting case, as the entire book on him has changed since he came into the organization last season (in the Bynum deal). When he got here, Rothschild taught him a cutter which he has really taken to... and we're still just kinda trying to see how he keeps going.

My guess? He could be better than Marquis... maybe Dempster. I don't see him anywhere near the top 3 guys, though.

I think Hart's best suited for the bullpen. He has one true plus pitch along with some so-so other pitches. He could be a decent back end of the rotation guy down the line, but I think he's better suited to relief work at the moment.

I say we send Marshall, Marquis, and Murton to Oakland for Harden.

Cedeno's "better than Theriot" bat then?

Calling Cedeno's bat good is a stretch.

He'd be decent but I think he's better off as a reliever. Now a guy like Marmol would probably be better as a starter, same for Gallagher (but for different reasons).

That's kinda what I thought to, but it would be nice to be able to use him to free up some other guys to trade for a decent shortstop.

Billy Beane, unfortunately, says "no."

I'll be more than willing to bump this thread back to the top for all you Cedeno fans when he doesn't reach base again for the next few games... I saw the rbi's today, it was fantastic hit; however he's shown no sign that those will come very often. The more MLB experience he accumulates, the more his weaknesses are exposed. For the record I don't think Theriot is a much better option...
