Cedeno has no business still playing on a MLB roster.
.359/.422/.537 in triple A last year

Some players transition better to the Majors than others. Cedeno has all sort of problems with his swing and plate approach, and that allows major-league pitchers to exploit him more frequently.

Minor league stats can be used to some degree, but not for every single hitter. Ronny is a good mistake hitter in certain zones, but major league pitchers are good enough to usually keep the ball out of those zones.

Numbers are a great way to judge players (and my preferred method), but they can't be applied to same way to every single player, without exception.

Those are great #'s for the Iowa Cubs. However, I'm more interested in what he's continued to prove at the major league level - he sucks - year after year after year.

The problem is so does Theriot. It isn't like Cedeno is platooning with Khalil Greene or anything.

Not at all......I'm trying to argue that Cedeno plays terrible defense, and always has at this level. In fact, as good as his bat is, and as critical as defense is at short, his bat doesn't make up for his defense.

I thought I'd always heard he was a good defender?

I haven't seen anything close to that at this level.

He played one full year in the majors? He had a really good short season and a really bad short season...?

At this point, I think this is simply trolling. You're trying to rile up the sizable pro-Cedeno crowd here.

Pardon? What is your problem?

I didn't even bother to read the previous posts in this thread, nor is there a reason to. I merely logged on here to express my utter disbelief that Cedeno continues to get chances to suck on this roster. I've been a member here for a few years, and have numerous posts. Your "trolling" comment is offensive and belittling; I'd suggest you rethink your comment. Isn't this a game thread - a place where forum members can post their comments on the game?

It's odd to say that Cedeno has no business on an MLB rosteron a day when Cedeno's 3-RBI double.

He's played in the majors for one year. ONE. YEAR.

He's got nothing more to prove in the minors, he has no options left, and the Cubs have nobody obviously better on the team at SS. There's no reason he can't at least get a shot this year, at least in some kind of platoon option with Theriot.

Cedeno has driven in half of today's runs. You're welcome to post what you want, but you might want to rethink it as well.

3.5 rbi? Impressive.

This is basically what I'm thinking. Tyrant makes a good point, but there still a CHANCE he could learn and adjust his play to be able to be a better player than Theriot.

And thats basically all he needs to do to keep a job.

No he's driven home 5 of the game's 12 runs though.

My last post on this topic...

Cedeno's poor defense >>>>>>> Cedeno good bat

That's all I'm trying to say.

Cedno's poor defense + Cedeno's good bat > Theriot's average defense + Theriot's terrible bat.

How about this...

Ronny defensively at SS = Rex Grossman

(I'm a big Rex fan, just saying)

YEah, you know, in all those consistent at bats he gets. The only year he got consistent big league playing time was 06 and he was TWENTY THREE. What more does he have to prove in AAA? Nothing. Let him play - he's not going to give you any less than Theriot, most likely, and he has the ability to give you much much better.

Considering Tim Beckham won't be around when the Cubs pick in the forthcoming summer draft, the best SS we can hope for is Brandon Crawford.

I'm sure Raisin would love to tell us about him!
