Reed Johnson is good at baseball.

Who did we trade for him, anyway?

cash (ie we signed him)

Oh. I thought we traded for him.

How much is he making, then?

not for sure, but I think 2.5 mill

Nope. Only 1.3 million.

You can't pretend minor league stats aren't generally going to be pretty good indicators of future success.

For a lot of players. But given Cedeno's makeup and skills, they probably aren't the best indicator for him. I addressed this a few pages ago.

Considering Tim Beckham won't be around when the Cubs pick in the forthcoming summer draft, the best SS we can hope for is Brandon Crawford.

I'm sure Raisin would love to tell us about him!

Pass on Crawford at 19. He can't make enough contact.

Great D though, amazing arm. Good pop in the bat too.

Sounds like a future Cub to me!

I'll pass on Alex Gonzalez redux. Thanks.

'05: 41 games, 80 AB's, .300/.356

'06: 151 games, 534 AB's, .245/.271

'07: 38 games, 74 AB's, .203/.231

I'll be more than willing to bump this thread back to the top for all you Cedeno fans when he doesn't reach base again for the next few games... I saw the rbi's today, it was fantastic hit; however he's shown no sign that those will come very often. The more MLB experience he accumulates, the more his weaknesses are exposed. For the record I don't think Theriot is a much better option...

The point is that non of us are "Cedeno fans"...we just think that he's better than Theriot as a SS option. That's all. And it seemed a strange day to call him unfit for an MLB roster, when he'd hit a bases loaded double earlier.

I would argue 500 AAA ABs in 2007 are a better indicator than 70 MLB ABs.

I also addressed this a few pages ago.

Reed under than tag! 8-5 Cubs

Grit. Reed Johnson, meet more playing time.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Of course they will ignore the fact that Pie is so fast he probably could have been home, tagged, and walked back to the dugout in the time it took Johnson to get there (not that johnson is slow by any means)

If he keeps producing, I have no problem with that.

I would definitely take him at 39 if he lasts that long (thank you Jason Kendall). Just not at 19.

That's a funny way to skew the stats.

Sorry, I just had KGonz on the brain. Occasionally I have flashbacks to Game 6. My therapist says I should go to my happy place when that happens.

What skewing? Those are his 2007 stats. No funny business involved.

Saying more AB's is a better representation than a few?

In what way are those stats skewed?
