well that's 3 more days on the bench for Pie

Pie will still play against righties. Johnson was gonna be in against lefties anyway.

To anyone who knows the system and minors well, could Hart be a decent option at starter for us?

He'd be decent but I think he's better off as a reliever. Now a guy like Marmol would probably be better as a starter, same for Gallagher (but for different reasons).

The Cubs are in love with Marmol as a reliever now though.

Considering Tim Beckham won't be around when the Cubs pick in the forthcoming summer draft, the best SS we can hope for is Brandon Crawford.

I'm sure Raisin would love to tell us about him!

Pass on Crawford at 19. He can't make enough contact.

Great D though, amazing arm. Good pop in the bat too.

Reed Johnson is good at baseball.

Who did we trade for him, anyway?

cash (ie we signed him)

Oh. I thought we traded for him.

How much is he making, then?

My last post on this topic...

Cedeno's poor defense >>>>>>> Cedeno good bat

That's all I'm trying to say.

Cedno's poor defense + Cedeno's good bat > Theriot's average defense + Theriot's terrible bat.

Calling Cedeno's bat good is a stretch.

Read my last post before yours.

I'll be more than willing to bump this thread back to the top for all you Cedeno fans when he doesn't reach base again for the next few games... I saw the rbi's today, it was fantastic hit; however he's shown no sign that those will come very often. The more MLB experience he accumulates, the more his weaknesses are exposed. For the record I don't think Theriot is a much better option...

That's only true if you are ignorant to his minor league stats... which you probably aren't. You can't pretend minor league stats aren't generally going to be pretty good indicators of future success.

No doubt. I'm just saying that while both have done well in the pen, Marmol will likely be just as good starting. I don't think I'd say the same of Hart because I don't think his secondary pitches will be good enough to get guys out the second time through a lineup.

I'd say push the lead to four to prevent Marmol from having to throw, but...let's push the lead to 10, because if Marmol isn't throwing, Howry will.

I think the Blue Jays are on the hook for most of it too.

Sounds like a future Cub to me!

Like i said: The only time he got anything resembling consistent playing time was 2006 - and he was 23 years old. He was not ready for the big leagues. He's proved everything he can in AAA and it's unlikely that he'll do any worse than Theriot is doing right now anyway - so why not just give him the playing time.
