The OH is talking like the O's had offered Cintron a major league deal. Wonder why he would have accepted a minor league deal from the Cubs, unless there was the understanding that after the trade happened he would be added to the roster.

Interesting that the O's offered him a deal, and then Hendry swooped in and signed him. This could mean a couple things. One, Hendry did it to have more leverage in the Roberts deal and include Cintron. Or two, he did it because the Roberts deal really is dead and he's basically saying "f you" to the O's.

One more thing... isn't it nice that we don't have to start freaking out that he's going to get significant playing time now that Dusty is gone?

I don't believe the Cubs can trade Cintron until June..although this may not apply to minor league contracts.....???

I don't think that rule applies to minor league deals, I'm not sure though. Anyone know for certain?

This is starting to give me a headache. First we trade Jacque Jones, a center fielder, our biggest current need for Omar Infante, a middle infielder which we really didnt need, and then turned around and traded Infante for a reliever which we really didnt need, and now we went and signed yet another middle infielder which we didnt need.

It's more important that we get a SS, SP and even an improved backup C. CF is a position where we should be willing to see what Pie can do. That's only looking particularly risky now because Hendry hasn't done a wonderful job of fixing the rest of the holes.

I would find your scenario highly unlikely. The Cubs were rumored to be interested in Cintron several weeks back as a back up to Theriot if Cedeno was involved in a deal to Baltimore for Roberts.

If anything, the Roberts deal is probably getting fresh legs. Also, if the Roberts deal is completely off, I don't see Hendry swooping in and pulling the rug out from under MacPhail by signing Cintron. The Cubs don't need Cintron if they have Theriot and Cedeno.

My guess is Gallagher, Murton and Cedeno will be in a package for Roberts, with someone else included to get MacPhail to sign off.

I seem to recall us trading Tomas Perez at the end of ST the other year on a similar contract... didn't we?

Just seen that we signed http://www.theloftwarehouse.com/launch/imgs/cintron_can2_269X349.jpg

So whats the point of this signing?? Better mean the Roberts trade or something else is going down..

Alex Cintron has reportedly opted to sign a minor league deal with the Cubs.

Like the Nationals and outfielders, the Cubs can never have enough middle infielders. They already have four better than Cintron, who is picking the Cubs over what seemingly would have been a better opportunity with the Orioles. Cintron hit .243/.281/.324 in 185 at-bats with the White Sox last year.

Cintron = Macias '08

Cintron = Izturis

boy here's a debate I want to see! let's just say Cintron=Nefie. anyway you slice it he sucks.

Neifi is the single worst hitter to garner this many ML PA in history. Cintron isn't nearly that bad.

How is his glove?

I'm just looking for a reason to like this acquisition.

Terrible. DeRosa may be a better defensive SS.

you are a bum SouthSideRyan

uh oh...battle of the southsiders. we'll find out once and far all, who is more southsideyish.

Yup, in 2001, he was the Diamondbacks top prospect according to BA

That must have been a pathetic farm system at the time when you look at what Cintron put up in 2000 in the minors...

2000 numbers: .301/.338/.404/.742

That is your #1 prospect in 01? Yeesh. I recall Meph saying something in a previous thread where Cintron was brought up about Cintron being considered the next Derek Jeter at one point. Ha!

Time to send out the Bruce signal... my guess is that he tell us this:

"Cintron was merely signed to start SS for Iowa with Cedeno being promoted to the Cubs"

I hope you're right

I think he meant to say the next Ralph Jeter, Derek's half-[expletive] stepbrother.

.317/.359/.489 over 487 PA in 2003.

Cintron at least has the tools to put up a decent line... which is something. We could catch lightning in a bottle.

Yeah but the last time he really played it was .273 .298 .415

Very icky. And very......Hendry-ish, if I may say so. How many guys come through here who have basically the same OBP as their AVG? FTH with that crap?

Yeah kinda bizarre that he would accept a non-guaranteed chance to be a 25th man over a guaranteed deal to likely be the starting SS. Can the lure of winning be that great with this man?

say what you want about cintron but those are the kind of players i want on my 2008 cubs

this is the year we take out the trash
