Pacman can't cover that well. He's similar to what the Cowboys had in Jacque Reeves actually. I'd imagine the Cowboys would still take a 1st round CB.

Agreed. The media has overhyped Pacman Jones. He's a talented corner, but he isn't an elite corner, right now, and I doubt he'll ever be that guy.

I'm just fortunate that my team (Bears) have two very good, young CBs on the team (Vasher/Tillman). But I do believe they should take another corner in the draft.

Pacman was making some good strides in his coverage ability the more he played. I'm confident that if he stayed out of trouble, he could become an elite corner in time.

And I didn't like the pick when the Titans made it. I was proven right on his attitude, but I believe I was wrong about whether he'd become an elite corner.

I guess it depends on what you call "elite". I don't think he will do much having missed a year, with possibly more to come. I think at best he coulda become a "reputation" CB like Deangelo Hall or Nate Clements. But he doesn't have the size nor technique to ever be a Champ Bailey, or Charles Woodson elite type CB.

Apparently, Michael Irvin is acting as unofficial recruiter to get Pacman to Dallas.

Link.

Sources tell us that Irvin reached out to Jones a few days ago to offer advice on how Pacman should conduct himself as he seeks reinstatement from the NFL, on how he should conduct himself should be truly want to join the Cowboys, and -- most importantly, on how Jones should, in Irvin's opinion, sign with Dallas.

We are told that Irvin has expressed his thoughts on Pacman to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and that the player, suspended for assorted off-the-field

Sources also tell us that Pacman will be in town on Monday night for a lengthy dinner meeting with Irvin.

That meeting will preceed the announced appearance of Pacman on Irvin's ESPN 103.3 radio show on Tuesday. Pacman will join Irvin on the air for the entirety of the 11-to-2 p.m. show. This is not the first time that Michael Irvin has recruited talent to the Cowboys, and then taken a guidance-counselor position for a player. Most notably, Irvin was influencial in Terrell Owens coming to the Cowboys. Irvin's involvement -- again, completely unofficial -- is a clever entry through a loophole. Teams are not allowed to contact other teams' pla

Again, the Cowboys are not directly involved in any of this. The radio station is apparentl paying for the flight. Pacman is just eating dinner. And master recruiter Michael Irvin is simply electing himself the President of the Dallas Cowboys Booster

And there's even more rumblings about Pacman Jones to the Cowboys. John Clayton is reporting the Cowboys are the only ones seriously pursuing him and the cost will be around a fifth rounder.

I'd take him for that. 2nd day picks are a crapshoot anyways. The last 5th round pick that actually turned out well was probably Herschel Walker back in '85. Now it's all about what kind of money and playing time he expects to get.

yeah, there haven't been any 6th round players to lead their teams to 4 Super Bowls recently

There's always going to be late rounders that do well, or sometimes even UFA players. But I think the point remains that after the first couple of rounds, it becomes an even larger crap shoot. My guess is the majority of guys who are selected in the fifth round or later don't amount to too much. For every Tom Brady or Marques Colston there are like 100's more that were selected in those rounds that didn't make their teams out of training camp. While there is a risk that Pacman will never straighten up and will be out of the league in a year or two, the percentage of getting a valuable player with the fifth pick is even less. So, if the cost for Pacman is a fifth rounder, it's an excellent gamble in my opinion.

And how many ended up on the practice squad or in the Arena League? The draft is, and always has been, a roll of the dice. If you can get a young player with proven abilities for a 5th round pick I'll take that. The Patriots were able to steal Moss for a 4th rounder.

Yeah, but that wasn't the point. the point was that you suggested that Hershel Walker was the last 5th rounder to turn out well, which is utterly absurd.

i just randomly took a look at the 5th round of a couple of nfl draft years:

1996: Joe Horn, Fred Miller, Christian Peter, LaRoi Glover

2000: Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, Dante Hall, Clark Haggans, Sammy Morris

2003: Terrence Holt, Justin Gage, Jordan Black, Bobby Wade, Donald Lee, David Diehl, Brian St. Pierre, Dan Koppen, Hunter Hillenmeyer

so yeah, just using a random sampling of three nfl years, i have found that it is indeed absurd to suggest that the 5th round has produced no good nfl players in almost 25 years.

Trib[/url]"]With the annual meetings set to start Monday in Florida, the league held a teleconference Wednesday to discuss some of the proposed changes by the competition committee. One of the more intriguing proposals involves the creation of a five- to seven-day dead period before free agency during which teams could talk to the agents of the players, but not to the players themselves. During the period, a contract could be negotiated but not executed.

.............

The Kansas City Chiefs have proposed a ban on hair covering the nameplate or hanging down to the numerals, so Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu might be trouble if the change is made.

.............

Other proposals include:

• Eliminating the force out on the field

• Expanding instant replay to include field goals

• Allowing the winner of the coin toss to defer

• Eliminating the 5-yard facemask penalty and using only the 15-yarder for the infraction

• Expanding roster size beyond 80 in the off-season

• Having the radio headset device in the helmet of one defensive player

Finally, the playoff format could undergo a facelift, with talks of seeding according to record after the top two division winners with the best records. Tiebreakers would go to division champions.

I don't particularly want to see a Wild Card team with HFA over a division winner.

The radio headset proposal will be interesting to watch, though.

I absolutely want wildcard teams to potentially have homefield over division winners. It creates an incentive for both wildcard teams and division winners to keep playing at the end of the year.

I actually like all the potential rule changes except for the forceout rule being eliminated.

I like them all, including the forceout rule. I absolutely hate the forceout.

I don't really care about football, but why don't they put the radio headset in everybody's helmet?

I'm not a huge fan of the forceout, but I feel the defense has too big of an advantage otherwise. In college you only need 1 foot, and in the pros you can't get shoved out if you were going to have 2 feet inbounds. To have neither means that many of the routes that are run on both levels won't work anymore.

For the other ONE Saints fan on here, reports are that Jonathan Vilma, Dan Morgan, Bobby McCray and Randall Gay are really looking healthy and ready to go for spring, and Robert Meachum looks alot quicker than last fall. Hopefully we can address more depth at linebacker in the draft. Crazy, but we might have a good defense! Good Saints Defense=trouble for the NFC. Apparantly the Saints are really worried about Deuce ever being who he was and may get a power back somewhere in the draft. Personally, I am a big fan of Pierre Thomas. Any Illini fans see him before his leg injury? He's got power for his size.

LOL Dan Morgan.

Every year he 'looks' healthy and then all of a sudden he has lingering concussion symptoms. He is/was the Panthers' Mark Prior. Have fun with that.

Panthers signed some guard from SD. Toniu Fonoti. He's pretty good. Carolina keeps signing people at positions I think they're drafting at, so I'm not sure what they'll do.

It's already a league that heavily favors the offensive players. The 5 yard illegal contact call (another terrible rule) is a perfect example of that.

These guys are in the pros; they should be able to get two feet in bounds.

I have never understood the forceout rule. Obviously if a guy carries some dude out of bounds from halfway across the field then it should be a catch, but other than that all it does it prevents a DB from doing his job.

I want to see ya'll get somebody who can cover before I call that defense anything colse to good.

I do like hearing that Meachem is improving. I hope he can get healthy enough to have some impact this season.

Cowboys and Titans continuing to negotiate a deal that would send Pacman to Dallas. The Cowboys are offering a sixth rounder and the Titans want a third. Some are speculating that it will end up being a conditional third or fourth depending on if Pacman is reinstated.

I would absolutely love to get a third or fourth for Pacman. For as talented as he is and as much potential as he still has, I'm afraid he's quite the lost cause in Nashville.

Pierre Thomas was a stud who was stuck behind a terrible OL at U of I.

He may not be an everydown back, but I think he'll be a great Chester Taylor.

Man, Dallas must REALLY want the title of "America's Favorite Felony Team" back from Cincinnati.

I really can't watch to see a Plaxico Burress, or a Santana Moss, or a Reggie Brown (or the flavor of the month Iggles #1 WR will be) torch Pacman Jones. I can't wait. There's a reason why teams are not going after Pacman. There's a reaso why Detroit and NE have decided against going after Pacman. Just draft a CB, Cowboys....
