Fluff piece on our favorite catcher...

This part got me :-k ...

Expect Soto to show up in shape. He arrived in spring camp last February about 20 pounds lighter. Carlos Zambrano made a bet with the young catcher as to who would have the lowest body fat (Soto won by about two-tenths of a percent).

I would've guessed that Geo was a hell of a lot leaner than Z.

Really? Z was pretty lean last year. Blanco has no purpose since Geo is a good defender. I'd like them to get a better hitting backup C. When Geo sits, the Cubs will see a downgrade on offense and defense.

I would agree, I just see no way it happens, until, or unless Blanco's season ends.

Actually, Barrett would be a pretty nice fit on this team as a backup. Could play behind the plate when resting Geo and would be a really strong bat off the bench for PH situations. Could probably play a couple other positions, too. I could see him as a better Tyler Houston.

Never would happen, since, aside from other obvious reasons, Barrett has become another of the notorious scapegoats of the Hendry era, but yea.

I hope Geovany's "career year" didn't take place in 2007. When he was with the D-Jaxx in 2004 and 2005, he didn't even come close to putting up the numbers he did last year. I hope that he can pick up where he left off next year, but I have a strange feeling he's not.. God, I hope I am wrong.

There are plenty of valid explanations for the step he took.

Well I'm sure the .370 BABIP between the majors and minors was part of it.

Shandler has him down for .272, 13 HR, 45 R, 56 RBI and an .801 OPS which would be pretty darn good for a catcher. His MLE's from 2004 to 2006 paint the downside though .676, .630, .683. Last year was the first season he has been decent offensively from an MLE standpoint.

I'm sorry, I know I've been pointed in the right direction before, but don't know it off the top of my head where to find it, but was this far out of range with his LD%(I'm guessing it was)

The whole quoting of Soto's name is pretty lame. It was funny the first time, but what is this now? The 80th time it's been done? Think of something new.
