so wait, since you guys have won national championships before, shouldn't you be disappointed every year that you don't?

Since OU's resurgence, I bet most OU fans probably are disappointed when they drop out of NC (or at least BCS) contention. I assume it's similar to rooting for KU's hoops teams. I enter most seasons with a realistic expectation of going to the Final Four. So it's hard to get excited about sweet 16s or Elite 8s. Doesn't mean I look at those seasons as failures, but I'm not making scrapbooks over them, either.

For a team like OU, a Cotton Bowl is pretty much the same thing. It's well short of expectations, so it's hard to get too excited about it.

Mizzou (or KU), on the other hand, should get excited over a Cotton Bowl berth. We don't go to bowls that good very often. Maybe in a few years, it will be different. Who knows.

uhh yes, isn't everyone? You can say "we had a good year" and "dag nabbit we didn't win a national title" at the same time.

you guys will figure this out if you can somehow put back-to-back good seasons together (in 2030 maybe lol)

i guess it depends on the expectations of the team. i dont think florida atlantic is too bummed out that they didnt win it all this year.

and i think we can put back to back good seasons together by 2025 or so.

yeah, you guys are FAU, take it slow at first

hopefully we can land that elusive Sun Belt championship next year

lol imagine mizzouri winning a conference championship

No, I get that. I was moreso saying would they be completely disappointed with the season, since the Cotton Bowl is only good if you usually suck, wouldn't another BCS game suck if you're always supposed to play in the National Championship? That's all I'm saying, just because you didn't win it all doesn't mean the year was unsuccessful. Disappointing that you didn't win it all? Yes, but it wouldn't make the season disappointing.

Good to see Hawaii take a beating. It was laughable hearing people try to compare them to last year's Boise State team. They aren't even in the same ballpark as that BSU team.

Honest question: Are DBs in college not allowed to make a play on the ball? Sure there was contact, but he was just looking at the ball.

USC taunting again because of a fluke botched lateral that went for 55 yards.

especially pitiful considering they were supposed national championship favorites at the start of the season. but then again they did the same thing against michigan last year, so its not suprising. lose a few games in the regular season, win a meaningless bowl game, act like your king of the world

It's called injuries. USC is healthy now.

Best player injured on both sides of the ball during both their losses is apparently meaningless.

Joe McKnight is badass. They must have shacked him up with a chick who was an 8 instead of a 10 when he visited Ole Miss.... :-(

USC did commit some shennanigans (involving none other than Reggie Bush) when they recruited him but didn't get penalized for it.

And to the Illini fan who said he had never seen a more classless team, you're completely right. It was great how every TD needed an excessive celebration penalty.

USC is playing really well right now but what I love about college football is that the whole season counts. It would be a really fun tournament to watch if they had one though.

That game made me appreciate Boise State last year even more. What they accomplished was really amazing.

Georgia/USC would have been a great matchup in the BCS this year. Too bad it didn't work out that way. I love the Illini, but it was too much, too soon for them.

Not sure anything really needs to be said about the game. It was still a winnable game until late in the third quarter, and the combination of the fumble on the goal line and the botched lateral that went for 55 yards really killed the momentum the Illini had. I expect Mendenhall will go pro and Leman is graduating, but beyond that most of the team is returning (at least the contributing members), so I would expect them to remain in the hunt for the Big Ten title next year.

I really wished Illinois would've scored on that pass play with the fumble to make it 21-17, if only to wipe the smug looks off the USC sidelines. What a load of classless fools, and that kind of thing, team-wide, reflects on the coach.

Colt Brennan is such crap. I pity the NFL team that drafts him.

I'm glad I didn't spend the money to go to So Cal to watch my Illini get their ass kicked. My friends who went said it was not an enjoyable experience.

I'm also not looking forward to the Mizzou/Illinois football game in St. Louis this coming September. After the MO/IL basketball game there a few weeks ago we'll be eating a large helping of crow. The chanting of "BCS, BCS" and wearing roses behind the ears will be remembered.

Man, if the BCS just tried to get the best matchups rather than keeping the conferences in order.

USC/Georgia

Illinois/Hawaii

Would have been great games.

So is Mendallhall going pro?

I would assume so.

It sounded like he was leaning that way from some of the stuff in the media pre-game. He really should.

Illinois and Hawaii should not have been in BCS bowls. Teams ranked in the teens don't deserve a top tier bowl.

Who would have taken over them? Mizzou? And who else?

Yes, Mizzou. Why should a team ranked #6 not go to a BCS game? They got screwed and we got lucky. The Illini should have gone to a bowl game where they wouldn't have embarrassed themselves on national TV.

In retrospect I would rather have seen Illinois/Tennessee, where the Illini might have had a fighting chance. Of course I admit it was fun to see Ill in the Rose Bowl, but they showed they didn't belong there. At least, not yet.

You've got to get rid of the 'two teams per conference' rule then. Because once Kansas got picked, Missouri didn't have a chance.

Of course, Missouri should have been picked before Kansas anyway.

Never understood why Georgia's fight song is the "Battle Hymn of the Republic"....

or why the texas alma mater is "i've been working on the railroad"

or why holy cross' alma mater is "oh Christmas tree" :x

anyway, pretty disappointed in hawai'i. They aren't as good as georgia but i think they were better than they showed yesterday. they have a rhythm-based offense, and i think the layoff hurts them more than it hurts most teams. there just seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between brennan and his receivers.

Hawaii's offensive tackles couldn't handle Georgia's DE's either. Brennan faced a ton of pressure last night.
