Flying in to LAX on the 30th, leaving the 3rd. Looks like we might be staying at the Ramada in Burbank and renting a van.

Or not, we just booked at the Custom Hotel, just a few miles from LAX. There's a shuttle between there and LAX, this way we only need a car on the day of the game, but we're gonna have to leave at like 4am to get there. Oh well.

Beware of traffic on NYD in Pasadena - the parade blocks off the most important street in town.

zook landed aj jenkins, a 4-star receiver out of florida who apparently runs a 4.37.

and it looks good for fayson, even if he wants to play qb.

Zook is truly amazing on the recruiting trail. It will be fun watching this team in the next 2-3 years.

On ESPN.com they have something that is kind of fun to play around with. You can rank any of the top 25 teams and organize them into a Sweet 16 playoff. You can then simulate the games using Accusore and see who wins each round, and then can re-do it over and over again if you want.

One of my simulations wouldn't make meph very happy. Kansas, Florida, Missouri, and Hawaii were in the semi-finals. Then Kansas beat Florida, and Hawaii beat Missouri :D (Kansas beat Hawaii for the national title).

Here's the link if anyone wants to use it:

Ahahahahah, I tried the ESPN power 16 and it really loved Tennessee. They were a 34% underdog in the first 2 games, a 30% underdog in the semi finals and a slight favorite in the championship and won it all. Weird.

Ohio State has yet to make it out of the first round in 3 tries and has been a 70%+ favorite each time.

Imagine how strong this thread would have been if there was a playoff and it was going on through Jan 7th or so?

imagine how much smaller the other threads would've been if games like lsu-arkansas had almost no meaning?

If that game knocked LSU out of the playoffs I think it would. Also, at the very least it would have effected the seeding. I agree that the season as it is, is wonderful as each game means something but I think they still would as long as the playoffs had a small amount of teams (8 or 4) and not 16.

regular season games have no meaning now since voters don't pay attention to SOS, etc. I'll take an on-the-field playoff over the extremely subjective opinions of coaches and writers like Bill Plaschke

Fine. WV/Pitt, Mizzou/OK, USC/Stanford. Take your pick.

Illini fans, Locksley has been given a 4 year contract extension, and is now the highest paid Off Coord in the Big Ten. SWEEEEET!!!!!!!

http://www.news-gazette.com/blogs/fourthandblog/2007/12/15/the_right_thing_to_do

Zook knows that Locksley isn't going to stay at Illinois forever. But Zook worded it perfectly, saying Locksley can wait for the "right situation." With a sizable raise, Illinois is showing its loyalty to the coordinator.

When Locksley goes, it will likely take an offer from a BCS school with a chance to win. First, as he pointed out, there is more work to be done at Illinois. Starting with the Rose Bowl.

Two Ohio State cornerbacks have been suspended for the championship game. I'm not sure how deep they are at that position, but one is a starter and the other played quite a bit per my understanding.

boy first florida state and now ohio state?!?!? who woulda thunk it?

I believe the starter, who was recruited strongly by Stanford, has already been re-instated.

Any of you Fighting Illini faithful worried that Zook may leave for "greener" pastures? Couch is.

How long will Zook stay at Illinois?

‘‘I want to be here as long as they want me here,'' he said. ‘‘I’ve been to the so-called top, whatever. Way of life is very, very important to me. Loyalty’s very important to me.’’

Loyalty. I wish he wouldn’t have used that word. He means it. Zook is believable. But loyalty in college football?

Fans are loyal when the coach wins and coaches are loyal when the team loses. Loyalty isn’t a two-way street in college football. Not one-way, either.

It’s a dead end.

Illinois gave Zook another chance after he was fired at Florida, the big-time. Doesn’t Zook owe something to Illinois?

The Illini are going to Pasadena and are loaded with good young, speedy players for the future. He already has delivered. And a couple bad years from here, and fans would likely see him the same way they saw Ron Turner a few years after the Sugar Bowl. Loyalty? Forget it.

That’s not to say Zook, in his third year, is looking to leave. Illinois has already given him a contract extension, and bumped his salary to $1.5 million. But someone else is going to offer him $3 million? Count on it.

Say that Pete Carroll leaves USC. Zook now is a great recruiter who can beat Ohio State on the road. Isn’t he a good candidate anywhere?

‘‘Why can’t the University of Illinois be the top job in the country?’’ Zook said. ‘‘We’ve got everything everyone else has.’’

Your salary can be doubled.

‘‘It’s not all about money. Obviously, I want to take care of family and all that. But it’s not something I’m looking for, not something I want to do. I want to stay here.

‘‘The way this community has taken us in, the coaching staff in. I told my wife when she was building our house, ‘Honey, do what you want because I could see finishing up here.’ ’’

Illinois is a major program, a national program. But is it among the elite? No.

Zook isn’t looking, but he’s going to be looked at. He’s 53, with time for one more shot at the biggest time.

Will he take it?

Hopefully for USC's and Illinois sake, Pete stays for a long time and Zook services won't be required.

I don't see why USC would look at Zook if Carroll leaves.

Imagine how much Michigan wouldn't have underachieved in the Rose Bowl last year and wouldn't have just rolled over and took the punishment?

So many bowls are filled with completely and utterly apathetic teams, its unexciting and skews how strong conferences are because people judge teams solely on their performance in bowls.

uh michigan didn't just roll over, they played a better team. michigan has consistently struggled against more talented, more athletic teams, and that's what usc was. or has michigan just been rolling over in every bowl game for the past several years?
