i really wish people would stop saying: "well illinois is capable of winning, but usc is probably going to blow them out."

can't have it both ways, and i will definitely call you out just the same when illinois wins.

can i do the same to you when they lose by 4 TDs?

absolutely, but your opinion doesn't matter much as your school isn't in a bcs bowl.

That guy!

I love that Illinois is basically in a no-lose situation. Everyone expects them to get blown out, so they can only impress.

People who think Illinois is going to get blown out either just hate Illinois or they don't follow Illinois or both. We were being blown out just once this season and it was the first game of the season. And we ended up losing by just 4. USC is playing well right now, but did anybody watch the USC/UCLA game? USC didn't look all that dominating to me. They looked much better against Arizona St. to me.

Honestly, Pete Carroll looked to be trying to get Booty going against DeWayne Walker (all the talk was that DeWayne and the UCLA D got into Booty's head last year). USC could have run up the score with ease by doubling Brian Price (RDT) and running to the left side right at Bruce Davis. They did that on their second scoring drive for gains of 7+ yards nearly every time. USC's OL owned the trenches and if they wanted a blowout, it was there for them. Obviously Illinois' offensive line is great unlike UCLA's crap OL but I think the USC-ASU game is a far better judge for the Trojans. Also, two of their starting LB rested the second half due to "injuries" which won't be an issue by January 1. If USC's OL can establish McKnight and Washington and protect Booty, it will be a blowout.

sure you can ....

no, no you can't.

perhaps the blowout is probable and the win for ASU was improbable -- perhaps not.

If i had to breakdown the USC-IU game.

rough numbers dont go crazy on em

50% chance USC wins by at least 2 touchdowns

25% chance USC wins by less than 2 touchdowns

25% chance Illinois wins.

usc is playing illinois, not indiana, but if you mean illinois,

i would say:

50% chance usc wins by less than 2 tds

25% chance usc wins by more than 2 tds

25% chance illinois wins.

Early spreads for the BCS games:

LSU (-6) over Ohio State

Virginia Tech (-4) over Kansas

Oklahoma (-7) over West Virginia

Georgia (-11) over Hawaii

USC (-14) over Illinois

Something wrong with Georgia-Hawaii being only -11 while USC-Illinois is -14.

Why?

cus hawaii is an awful team who can barely beat nevada

Ooo, this is fun. I can play this game too. Illinois is an awful team that LOST to Iowa. See, it works both ways.

illinois is an awful team?

He felt it necessary to judge Hawaii by one game and call them awful so I just did the same using his logic.

But no I don't think Illinois is an awful team.

I don't necessarily disagree with that statement. But no one has been able to present a valid argument as to why Kansas should be in the Orange Bowl rather than Mizzou. And no, because Mizzou wasn't competitive in the 2nd half of a game kU wasn't even able to get to isn't a valid argument.

Easy:

Kansas - 1 loss

Missou - 2 losses

You must've missed where I said the word "valid."

If there was a Pac Ten vs Big Ten challenge in football, how many games do you think the Big Ten would win of the following? Maybe two or three, like they do in basketball vs the ACC.

OSU vs. USC

Illinois vs. ASU

Mich vs. Oregon State

Wisc vs. UCLA

Penn State vs. Oregon

Iowa vs. Arizona

Indiana vs. Wash State

Mich state vs. Stanford

Purdue vs. California

Northwestern vs. Washington

Indiana vs. Best High school team in California

Seriously? The Big 10 might win every one of those. I'd probably give the Pac 10 2 wins.

seriously.

let's see, stanford: terrible, california: can't beat anyone, oregon: terrible, ucla: lost to notre dame at home, wash st: coach just got fired for being bad, arizona: bad, washington: average, usc: lost to stanford.

i actually think that minnesota could beat stanford, oregon, wash st., and maybe arizona--and minnesota was unbelievably bad.

What teams outside of the Big 10 did your league beat this year that were BCS over 500 teams? Cal beat Tenn, Oregon beat....Michigan by how much? This at a quick glance and UCLA beat a top 20 BYU.

Ohio State: Lost at home to Illinois

Illinois: Lost to Iowa (re: terrible) and overrated.

Michigan: A complete joke - Lost at home to App St. and got demolished by Oregon who really didn't even do anything after halftime because they were up 32-7.

Wisconsin: Overrated and not very good - lost to Penn State 38-7, barely beat Iowa, were tied with I-AA Citadel at halftime, and needed a late TD to beat 2-10 UNLV.

Penn State: Bad

Iowa: Terrible - Lost at home to 5-7 Western Michigan and at Iowa State.

Indiana: Bad

Michigan State: Bad - Usually start 3-0 or 4-0 then finishes the year 2-6 or 3-5.

Purdue: Bad

Northwestern: Terrible - they lost to Duke

Minnesota: Terrible

Boy that was fun.

yeah never mind that their quarterback, who happens to be their best player, was out for that game with a concussion.

Since when are losses not a valid way of measuring team success? It may not be a complete analysis, but it is most certainly valid.

Perhaps we don't mean the same thing with that word.

val·id

–adjective

Logic. (of an argument) so constructed that if the premises are jointly asserted, the conclusion cannot be denied without contradiction.

The team with fewer losses had a better season. Kansas had fewer losses, so they had a better season. That argument fits the definition of validity perfectly.

Of course, to remain valid, Hawaii should be playing for the title. But you didn't say to include that in the argument. ;)

Oh and by the way, its being reported the Illini have landed Jarred Fayson. Yes the same Florida Gator Jarred Fayson, hes apparently transferring, and if reports out of Florida are correct, hes decided to join the Illini. Fayson was rated a 5 star by the way, and he runs a meager 4.4 40. I love Zook.

hey, the illini beat ohio state, yet ohio state is playing for the title! that's unfair.
