Early spreads for the BCS games:

LSU (-6) over Ohio State

Virginia Tech (-4) over Kansas

Oklahoma (-7) over West Virginia

Georgia (-11) over Hawaii

USC (-14) over Illinois

Something wrong with Georgia-Hawaii being only -11 while USC-Illinois is -14.

It's just a shame the Trojans weren't up for the Stanford game and got upset. We would have had a great game with the two best teams from the two best football conferences playing for the National championship.

Instead we get two blowouts. LSU over Ohio State and the Trojans over Illinois.

I don't necessarily disagree with that statement. But no one has been able to present a valid argument as to why Kansas should be in the Orange Bowl rather than Mizzou. And no, because Mizzou wasn't competitive in the 2nd half of a game kU wasn't even able to get to isn't a valid argument.

Easy:

Kansas - 1 loss

Missou - 2 losses

USC - OSU would have been a good game. :D

Seriously, OSU ranked above LSU, so they would have been in the title game no matter what.

I'm going to predict an OSU win over LSU.

I'm also going to predict that shortly afterwards we'll see a long overly complicated rationalization using mathematical models of why LSU was the better team and "should have" won by Meph.

Were you one of the many on here last year predicting an Ohio State win over Florida?

That's a valid point, although in my mind, two fluky triple OT losses is not as bad as a home loss to Illinois.

As Les Miles said, "We're undefeated - in regulation."

There's just no way the BCS could keep OSU out of the title game, and then put Mizzou in over Kansas. That would have been worse than what happened. You'd be locking out the only 2 large conference teams with 1 loss in favor of 2 loss clubs. I know it's become popular to bash OSU and the Kansas pick, but the alternative would have been stark raving madness.

The BCS was in an impossible position this year. And it definitely shows beyond all doubt how inadequate the system is.

I'm putting money on the OSU-LSU game with that spread...merry January to me.

edit--I'm a wee bit intoxicated presently, but I'm pretty sure I'll have the same position on this tomorrow.

Before you put money down without looking, realize that was my personal spread. I read somewhere LSU is favored, I wanna say by 5 or 6.

 the emboldened wouldn't have occurred...I'm not touching touching this game with the line at LSU -6. I believe LSU will win, but it could very easily be by less than 6.

Or LSU could just blow them out. Seriously, I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole.

I think some of you are upset at the wrong teams. First, be mad at WVU and Mizzou for losing last night. Second, be mad at the BCS ranking because Mizzou was never, ever the best team in the country yet they were ranked #1. Third, be angry that OSU fell to just #7 after losing to Illinois. Fourth, I think had Mizzou been competitive at all in the second half, maybe the Orange Bowl would've chosen them instead of KU. Losing by 21 as a #1 team on a neutral field and you should be punished.

Anybody who knows anything about the Rose Bowl knows that they have always preferred the Big Ten/Pac-10 matchup due to tradition. Those who pick USC to blow out Illinois are probably just hating --- considering that most of these people also thought OSU would blow out Illinois. Considering that USC is a 6 point favorite and playing in their backyard should tell you that the odds makers think highly of Illinois. Now it just remains to be seen what the betting public thinks.

So by Kansas NOT playing OU at all they get rewarded. I don't see how that makes any sense. Play all the crappy teams in conference, not go to the Champ game and get rewarded. If Georgia played LSU we would have had a better picture of that too.

Oh, I get it. Ohio State lost to Florida last year, so they can't beat LSU this year. Gotcha.

I think the thing nobody is getting here, unfair as it may be, Kansas would've been selected for a BCS spot regardless of whether they would've beaten Missouri or not.

They were selected because they are the more attractive team. And they would've only had one loss either way.

Kansas should have been punished just for their ridiculous non-conference schedule - Central Michigan, Southeastern Lousianna, Toledo and Florida International and don't give me that BS about how Kansas had no way of knowing those teams would suck when then made the schedule up years ago.

Rewarding them only encourages this type of cream puff scheduling.

Missouri got hosed.

I have more of a problem with Illinois getting in and not Mizzou. I don't like these bowl tie ins and it screws up the rest of the system which is bad enough as it is.

Ohio State isn't as good as they were last year and LSU is better this year than Florida was last year so yeah is make sense to predict another SEC blowout of a Big Ten team.

That's why God created the over/under

All of this arguing over which teams deserve more than they got is what makes college football great. No matter who wins between LSU and OSU OU fans will be complaining that they should have been there.

If OSU wins, Illinois should be named co champions.

But Illinois getting in had nothing to do with Missouri. Once Kansas was in, Missouri couldn't get in. Same deal with Florida. Really, the only option better than Illinois that the Rose had was Arizona State, and they weren't about to schedule a conference rematch.

It is what makes college football pointless. Pointless but rich.

I really can't defend Illinois getting in, even though I'm happy about it. I think it likely they'll get destroyed though.

1st off like Meph will probably tell you one game has many different variables. Florida routing OSU last year was probably a fluke.

2nd Its still has no value in predicting this years game

3rd What LSU team have you been watching? It certainly isnt one that is better than Florida last year. I keep hearing that LSU could easily be undefeated. They just as easily could have 4 losses and being playing in the Cotton Bowl.

I forgot about the 3 team rule thing. I'm sure the bowls would love a SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 bashout.

All of this arguing over which teams deserve more than they got is what makes college football great.

It is what makes college football pointless. Pointless but rich.

It keeps people talking about it for 5 months. 2 days after the Superbowl no one remembers who won. Same thing with the WS. College Football has more drama because there's no closure.

The present system has less to do with making money (they could make even more with a playoff) then how to split the money it would make. That's really the only thing that keeps them from going to a playoff system.

It's drama with no resolution though. And it gives me a feeling of hopelessness to watch these scenarios play out each year, with the BCS failing over & over, knowing there's likely no end in sight.

Plus these kids pour their hearts & souls into these seasons, only to find at the end there's no solid way of determining what they really fought for. That's just poor.

Bukie is right. Illinois is not the reason Missouri didnt get in. Also I dont know where else I posted this but, The Rose Bowl is very loyal to the Big Ten and Pac Ten because those conferences were loyal to the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl would have been pushed out of the BCS except those 2 conferences said they wouldnt get involved unless the Rose Bowl was involved.
