Steve Phillips was the one who traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano, so take that rumor in that context

That was Jim Duquette, not Steve Phillips.

but steve phillips gave it the Meph Stamp of Approval

Steve Philips may not have done Kazmir for Zambrano, but I believe he was responsible for giving Mo Vaughn like $90 million. :-k

I do have to say, the thought of getting Roberts after worrying we were going to be stuck with Matsui for 3 years does have me excited. I just hope Hendry doesn't give up Hill in the process.

Another rumor on their board from one of their insiders states that the Roberts deal might be Prior and Hill for Roberts.

That's worse than what Steve Phillips reported!

As far as the Hill/Roberts comparisons, I don't think this is a case of us overvaluing our own players. The membership here sensibly values stolen bases far less than the average fan. I'm sure the typical poster at the Orioles board looks at Roberts' 50 SB from 2007 and thinks that makes him a superstar. Roberts is no different from any other basestealer. We're simply not going to covet him like the average fan.

What would honestly be a fair deal if you are Baltimore?

I think they have to come away with either Felix Pie or Rich Hill plus a low level prospect. If not, they would have to get Marshall AND Gallagher. I would rather have it be Pie.

Or we could just give them Kevin Hart, effectively making the trade Brian Roberts for Freddie Bynum \:D/

I'd do Prior and Marshall though....

I seriously hope Bruce is right and Hill isn't going in a deal for Roberts. DeRosa is just fine if Hill is part of the price.

If we're going to spend valuable players in a trade with Baltimore, Tejada is the way to go.

haha, im sure nothing is going to happen tonight, but i cant turn away.

Do what I do and don't believe any of the rumors during the Winter Meetings. It'll save you stress from terrible rumored deals like the one that Phillips just mentioned.

Rumors are so much fun. :D

By the way, I'd be pissed if I were an Orioles fan, knowing that every trade they've talked about has needed approval by Angelos. Talk about micromanaging.

instead of trading valuable young players for a 2b with a .370 obp how about we just play the 2b we already have that put up a .370 obp?

if hendry trades hill for roberts, i'm done with the cubs.

If I were running the O's, I'd realize that we were going to get worse before we got better. For Roberts...I'd want Gallagher to start. Probably Colvin and then Marshall.

I could then live with Gallagher and Marshall.

EDIT: I'd want EPatt as well.

Yeah, I think Hill easily has more value than Roberts, especially considering age and salary.

Life would be easier if DeRosa were left handed, I guess.

Disagree, I think Hill showed this year that he has 3rd starter stuff. Plus he's 28 and Roberts is 30

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Kap talked Cubs from 7-8. He said this Roberts stuff is very serious. They had an O's beat guy on and he speculated Murton and Gallagher would get it done. Kap asked about Pie, and the Baltimore guy didn't think they could get him for Roberts.

Also, Kap said he heard from "great sources," that the Cubs plan A at this point is Fukudome in RF, Roberts at 2B, and Chone Figgens in CF. Fukudome is priority #1. He seemed to imply the Cubs would part with Pie to make this happen if possible.

I almost never listen to Kap, is he credible?
