My sources tell me that I should just stop by to do my part in bringing this one post closer to 300, and that page 300 is likely to happen within the next 3-6 days.

Remember the good old days? You know, when we used to talk about reaching page 250?

Alright, who's ready? Wait for it.....wait for it........

bigbird[/color]"]From what I was told this could be happening very soon....

what is? the trade or page 300?

FWIW, Ken Rosenthal was on MLB ON XM today and said that he thinks a deal will get done. He said he also thinks the Cubs will get a right handed centerfielder.

FWIW, Belkast had said a little earlier that'd be a 5-2 deal if it happened. I'm assuming that would mean Payton and one of Marquis/Demp added in addition to the other 4.

that would probably mean the Cubs get Byrd from Texas since they just traded for Hamilton.

Is anybody else worried that if the Cubs trade Marquis, Gallagher and Veal, the rotation is going to be pretty thin?

At this point I would prefer Marquis to Dempster in the rotation, and trading him would guarantee a rotation of Z, Lilly, Hill, Demp, and Liebs. Marshall would be the the next in line. With the injury concerns of Dempster, Lieber, and lack of being able to make it a whole season by Marshall, that leaves the Cubs really thin in starting pitching. Who is the number 7 starter? Shark? Walrond?

Kevin Hart could be stretched out.

I feel the same way. However, I feel like at this point, Dempster is definitely in the rotation, whether we like it or not.

I really wont believe Roberts is a Cub until I've seen him bat while wearing a Cubs jersey.

Aww yes, the good "ole days." We were so young, so naive, now we know better.

The trade will be announced on April Fool's Day, and the joke will be on us because we won't believe it's true.

Ok I'm calling it. It won't happen.

Here's how I see it. Derosa and Roberts are simular offensively except the steals. And Roberts a bit better defensively. If you get Roberts you are just bunching up your really good hitters 1-5. Rob, Sori, Dlee, Aram, Fuku. But if you don't get Roberts then you get to seperate your really good hitters a bit. Sori, Riot, Dlee, Aram, Fuku, Dero. The difference in the line-up would be Theroit hitting 2nd or somewhere like 7-8 if we had Roberts.

So in a way, not getting him is better for our overall line-up.

Yeah, Hendry really needs to end this stuff one way or another before opening day. Even if he has to lie and say the talks are officially off (while not actually meaning it), he has to do it. When all the players are talking about it with reporters on a regular basis, that's not good. We don't need those kind of distractions when we're trying to avoid getting off to another bad start.

I think we really do need Roberts on the Cubs, then, since maybe he (spring traning OBP=.405) can teach the rest of the Cubs how to deal with distractions. Or when he comes to the Cubs will he also fall victim to distractionitis?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here. If Roberts were traded, the distraction would be gone. I'm not syaing it's a huge deal or anything, but I think the players would like to definitively know who their teammates will be on opening day.

The Sun-Times article (and a couple of other places) claimed that the Cubs offered Gallagher/Cedeno/Veal/Ceda. The Cubs denied it and apparently "furious" with the false report.

Who knows what's true, but I doubt Hendry would offer that.
