The deal is done, but they don't want to announce it until this thread reaches 300 pages.

A noble act for a noble cause.

Whats the over under on # of pages after the trade is actually announced (if its ever announced)...my guess is that it woudl be suprisingly little...I mean...seriously, how much more can be said about Brian Roberts?

I'm seriously contemplating locking this thread the moment the trade is announced just because I can.

no doubt yet another "Banedon is a big jerk" thread would pop up

It should blend in with all the rest.

Baltimore Sun's Roch Kubatko[/url]"]I still believe the Brian Roberts trade goes down before Opening Day. And I predict that Jay Payton is going with him, with the Orioles getting five players in return from the Cubs.

So it seems as if Marquis and Payton are now involved perhaps?

Well, it's still all spec. He said he "predicts" unless he knows something else that he isn't saying.

you think there is any chance of them taking dempster rather than marquis...?

Yeah, that's a decent possibility as well. I think the fact that Demp can go to the pen might make the Cubs keep him and with Marquis I'd think he'd be quite unhappy relieving the 4th inning in a blow out.

i know this is off-topic, but what isn't in this thread?

pitching pitching pitching...championships are won with pitching...

i really wish we would have gone on a run for burnett this offseason...

i won't mind getting roberts, but i just really hope everyone stays healthy and performs well because, depending on what we give up in this deal, it could seriously hinder our ability to make a quality move at the deadline...

since you were too busy to notice, only the Padres and Red Sox gave up less runs than the Cubs last year -- 17 teams scored more runs than the Cubs last year

Championships are won by scoring more runs than your opponent. There are lots of way to accomplish that.

Accounting for Career seasons by Lilly, Hill, Marshall and a great half by Marquis. Replace Marshall and his sub 4.00 ERA with Dempster and his career starting ERA in the mid 4's, and then expect a regression by Lilly and we'll see where we stand.

If Demster makes 32 starts with a 4.75 ERA this year, the Cubs will have a much better 5th starter than they did last year. Those numbers will improve if Dempster does that.

The only thing we know about the other 4 starters is that Lilly will probably go down a little bit. The other 3 are decent options to go up or down, with the inclination being that Z and Hill will probably go up a bit and Marquis will probably go down a little bit.

The rotation numbers will not likely go down significantly unless there's at least 1 injury.

Lilly may have had a career year, but I'd call what Hill and Marshall did progression

Let's hope it continues.

I'd probably call Marshall's a career year. He just doesn't have the stuff to be able to get much better than that ERA. His progression now would be to try to match or come close to that production over a longer number of innings.

Hill was definitely progression. It would be a major disappointment if he didn't at least match those numbers this year.
