Good timing on Pie's part if Hendry saw him on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bruce, that was some on the spot commentary. The Astros may have done the next owner of the Cubs a huge favor by outbidding Hendry.

And could somebody relay to Hendry that he should probably be looking for a good hitter in general, no matter what side of the plate he bats. The Cubs sound stupid by saying they want a left handed hitter. Wouldn't it be nice to just have a RF that can hit?

had to log in after not doing so in a long time just to say how happy i am that the astros wasted their money to save us from ourselves as bruce said....excellent =D> =D>

Man, I'm really glad we didn't sign him. I can't even imagine how s would have skyballed around here.

I've already done like 5 or 6 skyballs in celebration.

Now what other crappy MIF is available for Hendry to acquire?

Hmm.... who thinks Neifi could be brought back? 8-[

Hooray, same here. I'm so glad we didn't get sadled with Kazuo Matsui taking DeRosa's job out his able hands and for 5 million a year.

Thanks Jim! Now get Fukudome.

darn. now I guess Hendry will have to go out and get someone his team actually needs.

The question remains will the Astros get the crap Matsui the Mets had, or the one with the Corrs Field inflated stats the Rockies had.

I think he'll have a 290/340 line and hit 350/410 against the Cubs.

Regardless of how this works out, we win. Lets be honest here, even if the Astros get .300/.380 out of him, there was no way we'd get that. He'd bat .240/.300 for us.

Lets just hope he doesn't put up .300/.380 and then Hendry trades the farm for him next winter...

the kaz matsui sweepstakes...where the winner is the loser.

We might not like his game, but it's not fair to call Kaz a loser. Because he's clearly the winner here.

The Cubs still lose, because now they probably move on to plan B from Kaz, which could only be worse.

I dread Plan B. I'm so frustrated with Hendry, that I'd just as soon they don't make any moves this offseason, because I probably won't like anything he does. Call it an offseason now before any more damage gets done.

I hesitate to bring this up, but one of my sources did say there was "some talk (nothing substantive)" of the Giants interested in pursuing a Dave Roberts for Jason Marquis type deal in conjunction with a Miguel Cabrera for Lincecum/Cain plus prospects deal. Not sure if Hendry initiated it, but Dave Roberts might be plan B territory. Several sources have said Roberts is being shopped to teams, who need CFs, but don't want to pay Rowand or Andruw. I heard there were 2 teams that approached the Cubs on Marquis. Assuming the Giants were one, perhaps the Nationals or Rangers were the other.

Me niether. I dont like the idea of Roberts taking playing time away from Pie, but this would at least give us a backup plan if/when Pie struggles. Plus Marquis is off the team, so thats a plus.

You should hesitate to bring that up. :D

Hendry should just make a last ditch effort to get Fukudome to sign, and if he plays games, he should focus his energy on signing Milton Bradley and start working the phones for an improvement at SS.

I don't suppose Hendry is bright enough to go for Randy Winn instead of Dave Roberts.

Yeah, Dave Roberts looks like Juan Pierre without as many SB's. I'll pass.
