I can't believe how excited I am that we didn't get a player. We seriously need a new GM already.

The Astros are proof that the Cubs could do worse for a GM.

I knew this kind of stuff would happen when the Astros brought Ed Wade back into existence. He is a horrible GM, and makes Hendry look like a genius.

Note to Punch Drunk: If Lou still feels the need for a low- to medium-grade LHH middle infielder, go trade for Felipe Lopez.

I'm not sure why this is a good thing, Lou wants a left-handed hitting middle infielder with speed and now with KazMat off the list that means they will be looking at guys like Felipe Lopez and Cristian Guzman.... :-&

Maybe DeRosa should just learn to bat lefty...He'd probably be about as good as Matsui.

One year instead of three.

Thank God. I hope that Fukudome doesn't go to Houston as a result though.

Now what other crappy MIF is available for Hendry to acquire?

I'd actually take a flier on Guzman, if the Nats took Marquis off our hands. Christian has 1 year and $4.2M left on his deal. He's coming off an injury shortened year where he had an .846 OPS.

well above his career OBP of .325. Matsui's career OBP was one reason the Cubs' interest was not sitting well with many of their fans.

The other was that current second baseman Mark DeRosa enjoyed an above-average year, with a .371 OBP and 10 homers. The Cubs had planned to use Matsui at second base while putting DeRosa into a super-utility role.

I love when Bruce paraphrases us.

Also, why was Hendry in the DR?

Maybe to find out if he will need to spend time next week finding a CF in Nashville. Just speculating.

Good speculation...Pie's had a pretty nice couple of days.
