Georiga might have this 2 games in one day thing down. Beating UK by 10 just 8 minutes in. Still a long way to go, but they'll need a blowout so they can rest their starters.

Or they could go to overtime (again).

YEP...GA and UK into overtime! State is just licking their chops.

I completely disagree with Dickie V and Bobby K that Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Oregon are better teams than Illinois State.

Eh, I'm not really sure. I really wasn't impressed with ISU the few times I saw them this year. Osiris Eldridge is a stud, but if you can manage to shut him down, they're really not all that great.

As an Illini fan I think Id rather play Mich St if we manage to beat Minny today. I just hate playing Bo Ryans team.

I think Illinois matches up much better against Michigan State than Wisconsin.

Gotta beat Minnesota first, though.

I agree one game at a time.

Actually, the foul calls late probably hurt IU more than helped. Gordon did get fouled. DJ did not on the putback. If the refs don't call that foul it's just a tie game. But with 3.5 seconds instead of 1.5. IU has a chance to set up a defense. Minnesota has to actually run a play and don't get the desperation heave like that. It's easier to guard a Tyus Edny type play than it is to guard the play that actually happened last night. Also, if the refs don't call that 2nd foul (DJ did get ran into pretty soundly) then they have to call the ball out on Minnesota, giving IU the ball w/ 1.5 and a tie game. That would have made for an OT scenario with Minnesota's 3 biggest players on the bench with 5 fouls.

FYI, the worst call of the game was DeAndre Thomas fouling out on a charge when a 5'10" guy goes underneath him (an actually bailed to the ground before the contact) as he goes up for a layup.

Still, that's the most energy IU has played with since Sampson left. They got the ball to DJ all 2nd half. Dre played the best game of his career. They played pretty solid defense, except on loose ball situations, where UM scored 4 buckets off of blocked shots or airballs in the 2nd half. The problem was we didn't shoot well. Despite the loss, we looked like a team that could go to the Sweet 16 if we make a couple jump shots. But we will need Ellis and Stemler to provide something tangible to do so.

All of this might be true, but give me the chance to get the lead at the line everytime.

Tyler Hansborough is a MAN.

He's a good to great college player. He's going to get abused in the pros.

I think it's safe to say he's a "great" college player...no "good to great" about it.

However, I do agree with you regarding the pros. Although I don't know if he'll get abused as some guys who are great in college but suck in the pros (because he does have a lot of size), but he definitely won't be a standout or a starter, that's for sure.

I wouldn't think any IU fans would argue with this. Giving a team three chances in the final 10 seconds of play at the line to win the game is the officiating team asserting too much control over the outcome. However, Raw is right -- multiple calls went against IU along the way (as, of course, many went against Minnesota). This happens every game. Big Ten officials are horrendous and make multiple calls against both teams every game. Officials very, very rarely cost a team a game (the Georgetown-Villanova game earlier in the season would be an example of this). Complaining that one team gets all the calls every game is irrational, preposterous and smacks of homerism.*

*Except when it comes to Duke.

For those of you who do not have Raycom, and missed it, Billy Gillispie cost the Wildcats a chance to at least get the final shot off.

With Georgia at the line, after hitting the first, the camera shows Gillispie putting his right hand up to his mouth and yelling "goaltend it!" Then, he yells "Perry.. HEY Perry, goaltend it" while motioning with his right hand. Apparently, BCG did not know it was a tech.

Way to go, coach. Perhaps you should have just told your players to keep getting lane violations until Georgia hit the shot?

They made a serious mistake getting rid of Tubby.

Tubby wasn't pulling in top-level talent. And I don't think they got rid of him. Didn't he leave?

He left on his own accord, but he was all but forced out. While I do believe Gillispie is a good coach and will do well there -- I was saying so even during their rough start -- Tubby is one of the best in the business.

I won't say that it wasn't time for Tubby to leave, but I honestly doubt UK is as successful over the next ten years as they were during Tubby's tenure. In ten years at UK, Tubby averaged 26 wins and eight losses, won a National Championship, made four elite eights and six sweet sixteens, and won five SEC regular season championships and five SEC tournament championships. (Admittedly, the title was with Rick Pitino's leftovers; and his last two years were average). If IU is that successful over the next 10 years I will be THRILLED.

The "pulling in top talent" was basically a delusion perpetuated by some Kentucky fans that expect to get the top-5 players in every class. Here are his last three classes: 2006-three 4-star players and two 3-star players; 2005-two 3-star players; and 2004-three 5-star players and three 3-star players (top recruiting class in the nation). Those are good recruiting classes -- nevermind the fact that Tubby is such a good coach he doesn't need all the best players to win. Tubby's biggest faults at UK were that he wasn't sexy and he wasn't Pitino (and, yes, IU's fan base has these exact same issues as well).

yeah, although i had no idea about that rule, and i'm sure a lot of other people didn't either, that does not excuse the fact that gillispie should have known about it. if bradley holds the ball a few more seconds before taking his shot, we're not even talking about this. oh well -- what can you do? i like BCG, and i think he'll turn UK back into an elite program in the next few years. he basically has had to start from scratch.

on tubby: he resigned, largely due to the pressure from basically everyone in the state of kentucky. i think tubby is a good coach, but for whatever reason, it just started to go downhill. his recruiting (or lack thereof) went severely downhill after he brought in the #1 class in 2004. i honestly think it was time to part ways for both parties.

I was amused by this comment at the end of the Clemson-Duke game:

"The Clemson bench is going crazy, as most of them weren't even alive the last time Clemson made the conference championship, back in 1962."

I mean...sure, the word "all" is definitive, but the chances of a 47-year-old walk-on jumping around on the bench is pretty slim...
