Georgia is the first 6 seed in modern basketball history to play in the championship game in their conference tourney.

Maybe in the SEC.

Two years ago (05-06) Syracuse finished tied for 9th in the Big East and not only advanced to the Big East final but won the tournament.

Hell, I thought he meany only number 6 seeds. Other big Ten lesser seeds in the finals I can recall. #11 Illinois in 99, #9 Iowa in 02, #8 Ohio State in 03, #10 Illinois in 08.

At some point Pitt is going to break their Sweet 16 ceiling and make a deep run. I don't think it's going to be this year necessarily -- though it's possible depending on their draw. I've been saying this for a couple years, they're bound to bust out and make the Final Four at some point. Tough, hard-nosed team. Like watching them play.

Nope, OMC's somewhat right. They split the seeding up in half for the SEC. So there are two 1 seeds, two 2 seeds, and so on. The sixth seed is the lowest seed in the SEC, so it would be equivalent to the lowest seed in any conference making the title game.

Georgia's the first SEC school to ever accomplish that. Like you mentioned, Illinois did the same thing back in 99.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't even think about it that way.

I really wish we were playing anyone but Wisky in the finals. We do not match up well with them.

i got to admit i was pretty excited when i saw MSU with a decent lead late in the game. now there's no way we win tomorrow.

brock flailing to the ground could've been very costly. imo you better be bleeding from the sockets if you're going to travel with the game winning rebound.

DId you not see Brocks eye? There is noway you can blame him for falling to the ground, it looked as if he had went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson in his prime.

i disagree. this is your season, cover the damn ball. don't fall down and drop it, i don't care how hurt you are. your ears aren't damaged, you can still hear that the whistle hasn't blown yet.

A big thing with Pitt is if the refs let them play. IMo, they get in trouble in the NCAA's when the refs don't let anything go and start calling tick tack fouls.

That's a good point, I think. They play so physically that they're vulnerable in tightly-called games. Some Big Ten teams run into the same thing; conference officials allow more than tournament officials generally do (I have no empirical data to support this, just years of basketball watching). I like Pitt's program and Jamie Dixon a lot.

Good god, I couldn't care any less about ACC basketball, but this UNC vs. Clemson game couldn't be more entertaining. Granted, watching it on mute is much better because of Patrick & Vitale, but entertaining nonetheless

So, what we thinking for the over/under on combined points scored in the Illinois/Wisconsin game? Is 90 too high?

kansas-texas may have more scoring in the first half than illinois-wisconsin has total

Posted

kansas 42, texas 38 with 2 minutes left in the first half

wisconsin 15, illinois 10 with 9 minutes left in the firt half

yup, scoring in the ku-ut game is at a pace better than twice the scoring in uw-ui.

also, georgia is hammering arkansas in the early going. teams like ohio state and illinois state cannot like this.

My predictions of what happens to KSU

Either A: Won't surprise me if we don't get in with the way we finished.

B: We are lucky to get in and get a #9 seed. WVU will get an 8, and we'll see Huggs vs KSU in the first round. Then in the 2nd game, we'll be lucky enough to see the same bracket as #1 seed North Carolina. We'll then see the Beasley/Hansborough match up in that game. :)

You're in. You're still the 3rd place team in the Big XII. And you have the best player in the country. Maybe if you didn't have him, you might get dropped, but there's no way you're out now.

I'm sure we're in, but after last year and the things I've seen happen to KSU in the past, I take the attitude in of never being surprised if we're not. Hell, last year we finished 4th in the Big 12 with the same record we have now and won a HUGE game in the tournament vs Texas Tech and STILL didn't get in. Pair that with the #3 football team in the country not going to a BCS bowl back when I was in school, and nothing surprises me anymore. Good lord that 1998 football season still upsets me :)

6th time all year Illinois has trailed at the half. 3rd time against Wisconsin.

They make 5/9 3s again and it is going to be tough for us to hang with them.

It's possible, and maybe I'm biased, but 4th in the Big 12 should have gotten us in.

the big 10 is pretty awful this year. wisconsin is our best team? wisconsin is good but as usual has no chance of being great. hopefully the conference can bounce back next year.
