If Pax is working with 3rd teams, then that must mean he's not willing to throw the whole roster at the Lakers.

I don't expect Pax to get fleeced in this thing.

I don't see how adding a 3rd team makes the amount the Bulls given up any less. They may be splitting the return between the Lakers and Suns, but they still have to give up what's deemed as "Kobe's value".

It could if the 3rd team valued the Bulls offerings more highly than the Lakers do.

That's different than what Soul was saying, and even then I think it's unlikely that the difference in perceived value is enough to make much of a difference in what the return is.

I think the only reason Pax would be considering dealing with a 3rd club is if he's unwilling to part with both Deng & Gordon. That's what the Lakers asked for, and if we made the salaries match with other players, it would surely get the job done. But it leaves us fleeced.

If Pax was willing to do this, there would be no reason to even explore a 3rd team option.

TNT says that not only isn't Kobe close to being traded (David Aldridge called it 'wild media speculation'), but the Lakers are reopening talks for Jermaine O'Neal in order to keep Kobe around

Anybody hear the Kobe for Gilbert Arenas talks coming out recently? Meets the Lakers "need" for star power, and Arenas is from the LA area. Don't know why Washington would do it, though, Arenas can opt out after this year.

Ernie Grunfeld vehemently denied there's anything there.

Oct 30 - Rumors that the Washington Wizards were interested in trading Gilbert Arenas for disgruntled Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant made the rounds on the Internet, radio and television yesterday, but team president Ernie Grunfeld shot down the possible deal.

"I don't normally comment on rumors but there is no truth to this rumor," Grunfeld said when reached by phone last evening. "We've never had any conversations with the Lakers or with anyone else about Gilbert."

Washington denied the rumors.

Magic Johnson was on TNT last night and basically said the deal was dead becaues the Bulls won't include Deng. Well if I'm not mistaken Kobe said he will void the deal if Deng was a part of it. I think something will get done eventually..maybe when Noc becomes tradeable?

On another note I think Deng really breaks out this year as superstar..he has added a turnaround jumper to his game..lot of good buzz from around the league on him.

Don't also forget that Magic is the Lakers VP and could easily be trying to gain leverage in trade negotiations. Kinda strange timing that he also mentioned that the Lakers are looking to trade for Jermaine O'Neal at the same time.

He's trying to salvage some leverage. I don't think it will work.

If we could avoid giving up Deng and Hinrich, I'd be thrilled.

Gordon/Thomas/Wallace/Duhon etc.

I'll just file this whole thing away in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category.

We've been going for months with this stupid thing and nothing has happened. Obviously all possible permutations have been discussed and rejected. At this point I'm sick of hearing about it.

Let's start the damn season. It's become nothing but a distraction for both teams. End the talk and let the players play the damn games.

Enough already.

i'd be sad to see Thomas go. he may never be great, but damn is he fun to watch

+1

That minute or so sequence against the Heat in Game 1 I think it was last year was possibly the greatest minute I've ever seen a basketball player play.

Here's what I posted at RealGM.

Bernstein is saying that the possibilities have never been stronger than at this very moment. Talking about strong-willed people and mercurial personalities.

He says that RIGHT NOW there is a deal in front of Kobe Bryant. If he approves it, it will happen. If he doesn't, it won't. There is a deal RIGHT NOW.

It's not just Paxson running things. Implying that Reinsdorf wants this badly.

The Lakers are SICK of Kobe and want something done. They were amazed and shocked by fans booing Kobe.

The deal would NOT involve Luol Deng. Player most likely to go would be Kirk. 3rd team is the Kings.

Artest going to Lakers.

THIS IS CRAZY!!!

God help me, I'm listening to the Score online. :(

If this doesn't happen, I'm going to be upset now.

I don't see how any of our players could be concentrating on basketball right now. They'll probably come out and get slaughtered tonight.
