He has a last name and it's Bryant. He's Kobe Bryant.

/rant

Oprah also has a last name.

So did Leonardo.

So does Lebron.

If calling someone by a last name is acceptable, why not a first name if it adequately identifies who you are discussing?

Some piped-in people out here are convinced Bryant will not be a Laker Oct. 30 when they open the season against the glaringly upgraded Rockets, even if L.A. must accept an inequitable return for the league's preeminent talent; that's how repugnant he supposedly has become to the owner's senses.

I want to say this is a NY rag's attempt to drum up some half-crazed "Kobe to the Knicks" rumor, but given the current state of the Lakers, I don't know what to think.

I'd be all for the Bulls dealing for Kobe as long as the Bulls hang on to Deng.

The rest of the article goes on to argue why those "piped-in" people are likely wrong, so I don't think that's what the NY Post is really saying.

Leonardo doesn't work well in our Leonardo DiCaprio world. I call Oprah Winfrey, (gasp) Oprah Winfrey. I call LeBron James, (gasp...hold on) LeBron James.

I'd call Bono Jesus.

I don't call Cher.

I put zero stock in anything Peter Vecsey says.

I was wondering who would write this and I was praying to god it wasn't him. He's like a higher profile Sam Smith.

Bono is different. It's not his first name. If Bryant legally changes his name to "Kobe" I'll call him Kobe. Cher has an excuse. How the hell do you pronounce her full name? Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre.

And seriously, you're making a big deal out of nothing.

So, then how much would be too much for the Bulls to give up for Bryant?

Keep in mind, the package would also have to look good to the Lakers. Something like Hinrich, Gordon, Nocioni, Brown (for salary) and Noah would probably get it done, but is that too much to give up?

Not that I believe this, but contrary to popular belief, this might be bad news for the Bulls. I don't think the Bulls really want to tamper with their team at this point, and I think if the Lakers had to accept less than 100% for Kobe the Knicks would be a great pick to swoop in and get him.

Outside of David Lee, that team is a load of bad contracts that the Lakers would not want. That would completely alienate the L.A. fan base. At least the Bulls could offer a big time scorer in Gordon (I think they could still do a sign and trade with pjb to give him some free money to make salaries match), whereas they'd be getting negative value from the Knicks.

I'm sure some people thought the thread was going to be about a Wagyu cattle trade b/w Japan and the US.

Well to be fair, you did bring it up.

And if I refer to someone by first name only, and you're confused as to who I could possibly mean, please...let me know and I'll clarify. :)

If we get Kobe, I need my starting lineup to still include Deng, and probably Wallace too.

So I've got a great guard in Kobe, a very good F in Deng, and inside defense with Wallace.

If this can't be done, then I just sit pat. I'll give them Gordon and assorted players to make the salaries match to get Kobe. But not Deng.

I think we need to keep in mind that it's the Lakers who are desperate, not us.

Actually, I think it's great because Deng and Gordon haven't been re-signed yet.
