I don't like giving up Hinrich. He's wildly underrated.

No, he isn't. Not even close. He's a good complimentary player. I'd love to have him and Kobe on the same team. Hinrich plays great defense, hustles, and shoots decently. However, if giving him up means we get the best basketball player on the face of the earth, then sign me up.

You're wrong. His numbers compare favorably to Chauncey Billups. He's the best defender on the team by far, and a good point. He's a better player than Gordon.

This team would not be as good without him.

What did I say that is "wrong"?

I said he was good. I just don't think he's underrated. Most people think of him as a good player, which he is. He's not great though (and either is Chauncey Billups). He's not a better defender than Ben Wallace. He is a better all-around player than Gordon. Once again, we're talking about Kobe Bryant.

Kobe can replace his defense. Kirk is wildly inconsistent on offense from night to night, and he is prone to turnovers himself. I like Kirk, and would wish he could stay and play with Kobe, but Id give him up in a minute for Kobe.

You're also trading your team captain.

I like Kobe. I want him on the Bulls. I'd give up Deng before Kirk, and Gordon and Thomas before both.

Wow, you'd give up Deng before Kirk? That's nuts. Deng is the perfect player to play with Kobe. He moves great without the ball and Kobe will be able to find him when he gets double and tripple teamed. Deng is younger, plays about as good of defense, scores more, shoots with a better percentage, moves great without the ball, and is developing moves to create his own shot now. There's no way you trade Deng over Hinrich.

You're trading your team captain for a future Hall of Famer, who can replace him at captain. And Dengs upside is far and beyond want Kirks is. You are crazy to trade Deng instead of Kirk.

I don't get the Kirk love -- IMO he's not a difference maker.

Thats because hes not. Hes a good role player, but isnt an All Star, or difference maker.

I think he is....very good at running the Bulls offense, very good passer, very good defender. The problem is, he doesnt shoot well, he sometimes has trouble handling the ball, he doesn't get to the line enough, and frankly he is too short.

But the questions are, who will play point if Kirk is gone? Thabo or Gordon? How will Skiles handle managing a superstar like Kobe? How many bandwagoners will we pick up? Will the Bulls still seem like a fun enjoyable team now that they arent a group of talented team oriented players who grew up together?

Ben Wallace is a defensive liability on most nights. It's not 2004 anymore.

They're not talking about the trade at all on the Lakers flagship station.

We wouldn't expect them to until a deal is officially announced though, right?

Given the makeup of the team, I'd rather Kobe replace Deng than Gordon replace Hinrich.

You have to look at the overall composition of the team. We're either going to have Gordon (who sucks at the point and is a defensive nonentity) or Thabo (raw, inexperienced, poor FG%, turnover prone) playing the point.

How did Jameson Curry look in preseason? I didnt get to see many games, but isnt he a point? Also you still have Duhon, who can play it adequately.

No, we would. It's sports talk radio now and the guys who are most likely to break in on the story (John Ireland) hasn't mentioned it.

It sounds weird to say, but I think Hinrich is underrated because he's white. Which is pretty much 99% of the time the other way around.

I agree.

Duhon? JamesOn Curry?

That's not a realistic backup plan. I'd really make every effort to hold onto Kirk. I understand about needed to balance salaries, but man.

I think you are forgetting its not some slouch we are getting, its the best player in the league. You wont need an All Star pg, just somebody who can basically bring the ball up the court, and not turn it over.

There will probably never be an opportunity like this again. We'd be trading a worse player (and not much younger) for one of the best players in the game. If Gordon isn't involved, trade him for another point. If Gordon is involved, live with Duhon. Either way, we're upgrading significantly offensively and defensively in the backcourt

And Hinrich also. Its alot easier said than done to find that guy.

Ric Bucher was on ESPN talking about the trade. Here is what he said:

NOW Kirk isn't in latest iteration, but his source at one of the 3 teams said that deal currently NOT agreed upon.

Also he said Gordon is in new (currently not agreed-up deal), but also that Wallace could be.

Like Sulley said, either Hinrich or Wallace has to be included in the deal for the money to work out without the Bulls paying an exhorbitant luxury tax. Of course, I'd much prefer Wallace included, since Thomas could essentially replace Wallace's production now.
