This might be Iowa's season and if they can hit the Illini hard and make them doubt themselves they might get the upper hand in this one.

I dont think they can get the Illini doubting themselves after the last 2 weeks. The key for Iowa, and any team facing the Illini, is can they stop the run? If they can stop the run, then they force Juice into throwing which isnt pretty. But stopping the Illini's run game is alot easier said than done. Mendenhall is a stud, Juice is a stud when running, and their offensive line is terrific.

I expect the 1st half to be close, and then the Illini to come out in the 2nd half and put it to the Hawkeyes.

But making them sore and thinking about getting hit might do the trick. Doubt themselves wasn't the word I was looking for, apprehensive or tentative.

wisconsin came into yesterday's game knowing exactly what the illini would try to do, and they could do nothing about it. the illini don't rely on tricks or trick plays, they don't rely on long passes that hit infrequently, they don't even rely on a great defense. they rely on shoving the ball down the throat of the defense, and, in wiconsin's case, attacking it's strength.

the illini have probably been made to feel sore enough, but what they thrive on is eating the opposing d-line's dinner.

iowa's going to have to play strong at the point of attack throughout the game. and generally, team's start to wear down in the final quarter or two against a road-grading offensive line.

This over confidence is what I'm counting on.

What over confidence? He told you exactly what U of I has been doing all year. He didnt offer a prediction, or say they were going to destroy Iowa.

I'm going to the Ball State game, since my graduating class has a 25-year reunion in conjunction with Homecoming. It will be the first game I've been to in over 20 years.

I have a list of thoughts and observations of CFB. I watched a lot yesterday but did not post at all so here goes

1. As a Michigan St fan there is no other team I hate to play more than Northwestern.

2. ND is going to upset BC this week(and probably get votes in the polls)

3. I wish people would get off this Zook can recruit but cant coach crap. The Great Spurrier left him a sinking ship at Florida. It had been sinking since Stoops went to OK. Zook took it to the bottom but he was bringing it back up. I hope Zook wins a NT at Illinois and shuts up all those stupid critics.

4. Nebraska is not a good team. So Missouri fans dont get to excited about this win. Also dont think that if you shut down Nebraskas running game you can do the same to OK.

5. I may be wrong about Ohio St. They are the best team in the Big Ten

6. Illinois is going to beat Michigan by 2 touchdowns in a couple of weeks

7. LSU is not going to run the table.

8. I hate my cable company. Last year I didnt have ABC for a month because they didnt want to pay, Now I dont have the Big Ten Network. I will do something different next year if they dont get it. I also will not pay extra to have it in some package that its the only channel I want.

9. The polls have been pretty extreme this year. Dropping Michigan from 5 to out. Wisconsin 12 spots for losing at a 1 loss team. Bringing South Florida from nowhere to 5. Why wasnt Florida dropped that much for losing at home to a 2 loss team and losing in back to back weeks. Why is Missouri still 11th?

10. Did I mention that I hate when Michigan St plays Northwestern

I'm scared of Western Kentucky. They scored 87 on some crap team earlier this year. If you're capable of dropping that much under any circumstances you can tear apart the Cardinals' defense.

While it's clear that Wisconsin wasn't as good as their #5 rank, I still hold out very little hope that Penn State's crappy offense can dent the Badger D

Wisconsin over Illinois in the coaches poll. Just incredible.

Thank you Notre Dame and Illinois for salvaging my weekend. I really don't think BC is that good, and wouldn't be completely stunned if ND knocked them off. Likely won't, but I'd probably take them in a money line bet.(Took ND against the spread sight unseen this weekend)

I told anyone who'd listen that U of I was going to a bowl game before the season started. I've been on the Ron Zook bandwagon from the second he became the coach. But even I'm surprised at how good we look now. This is a lot fun after suffering through 0 winning seasons in my 4 years there.

wow talk about a guy whos buying into the Illini, read this article. Im a big Illini fan, but this guy needs to watch the Illini play before making comments like this.

Then there's Williams, who has gone from a guy who looked like a safety playing quarterback last season, to a legitimate quarterback who can make all the throws -- and run like a tailback on the option

ND +22 was pretty ridiculous. Regardless of your opinion of Notre Dame, to make them a bigger underdog against UCLA than against Purdue (especially after ND actually looked decent for a half against the Boilers) was sort of silly.

That said, Matt Ryan is a giant leap up from Ben Olson, let alone that hyphenated kid they tossed in after Olson was knocked out of the game. I'd be stunned if they beat BC, though I do expect them to keep it marginally close (roughly as close as the Purdue game).

Question for you guys. As far as I can remember, UCLA has never had a walk-on for a third string QB before this season - do any of your teams have one?

They did beat Mid Tenn State on the road. They're not that bad. I think they'll hang with Ball State for 2 1/2 quarters before BSU puts them away.

Pat Dillingham was a walk-on 2nd string QB for ND in Ty's first year. He was horrible.

KU is ranked. Still, I'd hesitate to put them in the mismatch category until we have a better feel for them. They should beat Baylor, but it has let-down written all over it.

Tennessee's currently got 4 scholarship QBs on the roster - though one is redshirting. Back in the late 90s Burney Veazey was the third string QB behind Peyton and Tee Martin. I don't think he was scholarship (not positive though).

Auburn is now back in the top 25. Their 3 freshman offensive linemen continue to get better and are giving Brandon Cox more time to throw the ball. Brad Lester played his first game this season against Vandy this past weekend, and Auburn now has 3 running backs (a junior, sophomore, and freshman) that will all likely get drafted their junior or senior years.

I believe that Auburn may match up well with Arkansas this year; Auburn's strength is their d-line and linebackers, but Arkansas always seems to play Auburn well and beat the Tigers last year.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be a tight game, and Auburn travel to LSU the following weekend.

Though you wouldn't have known it from the results thanks to Arnaz Battle (MSU game) and the defense (Stanford game).

I think I am not going to go overboard on Illinois yet. I am just happy to believe they can beat some good teams and go bowling. That being said, 10-2 looks doable for this team this year or at least not out of the realm of possibility. I wouldn't have believed that a year ago.

We did last year. Adrian Dantley's kid was our 3rd string QB.

Plus SFlorida went all the way from 8 to 5. I hardly consider that from no where.

Michigan lost to a team that isn't even in D1.

Why is Auburn 4-2 9 spots behind Florida 4-2?

I think the polls should be extreme since the preseason polls are never accurate. Once they start to play more games then the jumps and falls should not be as dramatic.

Kansas St gets 18 votes while Texas is #23.
