To whet the appetite: Preliminary BCS Rankings

Really liking that Mizzou is in the Top 10 of 3 of the 4 computer polls.

Stuff like this makes me so mad about the Utah game.

KU v. KSU is on 11a.m on Fox Sports Midwest IIRC.

Huge game for both teams. I still think KU will win, despite the fact you guys put Texas in a clownsuit. It's gonna come down to our O-Line, Reesing's poise, and the ability to pressure freeman.

I think K-State wins for the following reasons,

1. Home Field Advantage - Kansas State. No Mark Mangino's coached team has faired well on Big XII conference play, especially when it comes to the road. KU is 2-18 in Big XII road games under Mangino, and never fared better than 3-5 in conference play. Some of KU's manageable conference games: Texas A&M, OSU, Kansas State, and Colorado are on the road.

2. I think K-State is more prepared than Kansas is, considering if you look at their opponents. K-State faced two quality teams at the road in Auburn and Texas. Auburn isn't good, I'll admit that, but they did beat Florida at their house. KU however, has scheduled schools who I think aren't quality teams, even though I hear that Toledo lost to Miami by 14 and all that. Get real, Miami isn't worth a darn this year.

And finally, Kansas haven't converted an extra point in Manhattan since 1997. What makes you think they will win in Manhattan?

K-State has played better teams, but KU's schedule doesn't mean much. After, KSU used to play very similar schedules in the 90s, and they didn't falter when they opposition got tougher.

More importantly, KU was actually hammering these bad teams. Last year we almost lost to Louisiana Monroe. This year we rolled everyone. Pure domination. Given the quality, that's nothing to brag about, unless you consider that we've lost to teams like this in the past.

You can point to our past record on the road under Mangino, but that only means so much. As a Kansan, you have to be aware of the state Terry Allen left the program in. This was a Chernobyl caliber clean-up by Mangino, so it should come as no surprise that it's taken a while for the team to be competetive. But it has. And we've gotten better every year, whether or not the record reflects it.

Perhaps most importantly, we have a new offensive coordinator. Nick Quartaro was terrible, and he is largely to blame why we lost so many games last year after leading in the second half. He played conservatively. His playbook was thinner than the mcDonald's healthy eating menu. This year we have a more versatile spread offense, similar in style to Mizzou's. It will be much harder to defend. And we have more talent than we've had in a while.

Lastly, these are basically the same two teams that played last year. And we almost doubled you up in Lawrence. It will be an upset if KU wins. But I think we've got a good shot.

Oh by the way, I haven't even mentioned our 6'4-6'5 265 QB yet. He's a sophomore. He'll be a name to remember for a few more years. Coming out party for Mr. Freeman.

I don't understand the hype about him. He's thrown for 9 career TDs and 19 INTs. He can't throw the ball deep at all. I PRAY Prince tries to throw deep. Your short game is what worries me. It's all Freeman has shown the ability to do.

Nelson is a beast, though. Absolute beast.

Heh, Uk in a BCS game.

Nothing would amuse me more than something like an Illinois/Missouri/Cincinnati/Wake Forest/UK/ASU BCS.

Wow, Kentucky ranked ahead of Florida. Somehow I was under the mistaken impression this was football, not basketball.

When was the last time Kentucky was better than Florida at basektball? :?

A hell of a lot more recently than football. It's really just been the past couple of years Florida was this good in basketball.

Well, college football is no longer dead to me now that Auburn has come back to life and beaten Florida. However, this team is still very young and unpredictable. AU plays Vanderbilt this weekend, and they should win. They play at the McFaddens and at LSU in the weeks following the Vandy game.

Auburn's best running back, Brad Lester, will make his season debut against Vandy, and Auburn is now extremely deep at that position. DE Quentin Groves dislocated two toes against Florida, but they are back in place, and he may be able to return against Arkansas in two weeks.

Warp,

Ziemba is coming into his own..looked very good at right tackle against Florida.

Anyone think Illinois has a shot to take down Wisconsin?

Really, MSU should have beat Wisc Saturday -- they basically gave it away on a stupid late hit penalty on Donovan otherwise it's over. Wisconsin has looked vulnerable to me all year, and Illinois has looked suprisingly good, only losing to Missouri but damn near beating them. Now with the victory over Penn State -- the 2 QB system looking like it's in place for when they need a stronger passing attack -- the defense playing better.

Eh -- I dunno, I think the Illini have a shot at this one.

Sure, Illinois has a shot. Certainly a better shot than I would've thought at the beginning of the year. Actually, the way they are playing right now, they have a shot in every game except the game at Ohio State.

Fiver,

I want to thank you and your team for reviving college football for me. With Florida's loss, Tennessee has a much undeserved second chance to win the East and take a shot at the impossible (beating LSU).

I am indebted to Auburn until the next time ya'll beat Tennessee in the SEC Championship game. :D

You kids are going to have fun watching that one!

Kansas has played a horrible schedule so far but I give them credit for at least dominating all their foes. This is going to be a tough 2 week stretch for K-State.

Send Joe Tiller a copy of the UF/OSU champ game last year. He needs to duplicate everything the UF offense did.

A little team speed and you might get your wish. This game is a funky matchup and neither team has played a good team as of yet. How OSU has slid into the 4 spot other than by name is beyond me.

I wonder if Auburn playing a very tough schedule had a part to do with this? They did match up well against Florida.

They definitely have a shot. In the Big Ten, pretty much anyone but Northwestern can beat any other team (except possibly Ohio State).

The Illini are pretty fast so imo if they jump out to a lead, they might take this but if Wisconsin can get ahead run...use some play action passes Illinois will be in trouble. I'm not really impressed with either teams D though so turnovers may end up deciding it.

Dew,

Do you know when Auburn and Tennessee resume their series? That's always a fun game too.

Cuse,

I'm sure playing South Florida instead of a patsy earlier in the year did help some of the of underclassmen get better. Truly, Auburn should have won the game against South Florida. Five of their drives were stopped short because of three lost fumbles by Fannin and two interceptions by Cox. If Auburn had prevented even one of those turnovers, the end result of the game "could have/should have" been different. South Florida didn't make mistakes...zero turnovers in that game.

Auburn isn't as bad as they looked earlier this year, but I'm pretty sure they aren't as good as they looked against Florida either.

Add KState to that too. SFlor made WV turn the ball over also so maybe they had something to do with that and not just the offenses malfunctioning.
