Add KState to that too. SFlor made WV turn the ball over also so maybe they had something to do with that and not just the offenses malfunctioning.

agree on both items...it's amazing how quickly South Florida became a strong program.

They have a plethora of talent in Florida. Add to that the Florida St and Miami struggles...plus the overrated kids that go to the Big 3...and the chance to play right away and you have a nice little program. Central Florida is pretty good too.

Well, college football is no longer dead to me now that Auburn has come back to life and beaten Florida. However, this team is still very young and unpredictable. AU plays Vanderbilt this weekend, and they should win. They play at the McFaddens and at LSU in the weeks following the Vandy game.

Auburn's best running back, Brad Lester, will make his season debut against Vandy, and Auburn is now extremely deep at that position. DE Quentin Groves dislocated two toes against Florida, but they are back in place, and he may be able to return against Arkansas in two weeks.

Warp,

Ziemba is coming into his own..looked very good at right tackle against Florida.

Fiver,

I want to thank you and your team for reviving college football for me. With Florida's loss, Tennessee has a much undeserved second chance to win the East and take a shot at the impossible (beating LSU).

I am indebted to Auburn until the next time ya'll beat Tennessee in the SEC Championship game. :D

I wonder if Auburn playing a very tough schedule had a part to do with this? They did match up well against Florida.

Dew,

Do you know when Auburn and Tennessee resume their series? That's always a fun game too.

We pick ya'll back up next year. We get UAB, UCLA, Florida and then Auburn fourth.

It ought to be a good game. Auburn should be starting Kodi Burns and Tennessee should be improved everywhere but QB (Jonathon Crompton's no slouch though). I'm looking forward to it.

One of the best things Central Florida ever did was hire George O'Leary to coach them. He's a very good coach and I had a feeling they'd get much better under him.

I agree and if he stays just add another pain in the neck Florida team onto the scene.

He was a HS coach here at Liverpool and had Tim Green on his team.

As much talent as there is in Florida, I wonder if it's possible to dry up the flow?

If South Florida and Central Florida continue to improve, Florida State and Miami turn things around and Florida continues it's current level, I wonder if there'll be enough recruits even for a talent-rich state like Florida. Especially with teams like Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee taking a few players out a year.

Some of the big dogs may start to trend down if USF and UCF (not to mention FAU with Howard Schnellenberger) continue to improve.

I don't know because they can always get some northern kids to come and fill out their rosters in Florida too due to the weather and winning programs. They mentioned during one game the amount of D1 scholarships that state and it was a pretty big number.

Dammit is it Saturday yet? I don't know if I've ever been this pumped up for a sporting event that I'm attending (never been to a Bears or Cubs playoff game). It's probably gonna be one of the loudest and rowdiest sporting events of my life. And I can't wait.

Early prediction:

Mizzou 41

Nebraska 24

(How original).

Someone tell me how VTech continues to move up? They beat a terrible NC team at home 17-10 and move up? Again, it has to be the name game.

So long as there are polls, there will be a preference toward the big names. But, North Carolina is slightly better than terrible because they have Butch Davis.

Anyone think Illinois has a shot to take down Wisconsin?

Really, MSU should have beat Wisc Saturday -- they basically gave it away on a stupid late hit penalty on Donovan otherwise it's over. Wisconsin has looked vulnerable to me all year, and Illinois has looked suprisingly good, only losing to Missouri but damn near beating them. Now with the victory over Penn State -- the 2 QB system looking like it's in place for when they need a stronger passing attack -- the defense playing better.

Eh -- I dunno, I think the Illini have a shot at this one.

Definitely. Wisconsin has a difficult time with the spread and their defense as a whole has been terribly inconsistent. This is being recognized, which is why the early lines have Illinois as the favorites.

Like another poster said, I think it comes down to turnovers. If Wisconsin can stop the run and force Juice to throw, I like their chances. Otherwise it will probably be another MSU-Wisconsin shoot'em out game.

I agree that Davis will make them better. They are competiteve, except for a 37-10 at the hands of SFlor.

Speaking of states with talent, I wonder where all the NC kids have gone of late? No NC team has been that good lately and the ACC teams haven't really shined in the past few years either.

I know Tennessee's grabbed a few, I'd say Georgia and South Carolina have gotten a few others.

From here on out, though, I think NC kids will be staying home for the most part. One of Davis' strong points is his recruiting ability and I think that'll help him turn UNC around fairly quick.

I have a question for Andy or any other ND fan. I know its not for a couple of weeks but I was wondering why does USC play at ND in October and ND usually plays at USC in late Nov? Is it because USC doesnt want to travel to a cold climate game or does ND want a warm climate game before the Bowl season. Or is there some other reason.

Kodi Burns is extremely fast and has a strong arm, but I believe he may suffer from Michael Vick's disease...below average passing accuracy. He is a true freshman, and he's only played a handful of snaps, so I can't really judge just yet. If he's able to read defenses and throw with any accuracy, he's going to be very good. When one considers their youth this year, one would think Auburn would be better next season also.

It is the former. That's a fairly recent change, the games used to always be played in November regardless of site but 30 or so years ago, USC decided they didn't want to come to South Bend in cold weather.

BTW, for anyone in the Indy area, the Indianapolis ABC affiliate is airing the ND/UCLA game and not the Purdue/Ohio State game. I have no idea whatsoever why two teams from the same state were put into the same time slot on the same network and I have no idea why they're airing our worthless game over Purdue/OSU which should be immensely entertaining.

USC is full of pansy California boys who are scared of a little fall weather. :D

I had the feeling this was the case. I would love to see if there is ever a playoff, some cold weather climate games are used.

Yeah, I like Burns, but suspect it's likely he'll suffer from bad accuracy. Most highly mobile QBs like Burns do, Pat White, Vick, Stephen McGee, Matt Jones and Vince Young are just a few examples. Vince is actually one of the better pure passers of the mobile QBs that have come out recently.

I keep drawing comparisons to Steve McNair with Vince, but that's honestly what he is. A mobile QB with good upside throwing the football. Needs some work now, but I'm optimistic he'll put it together relatively soon.

It's too early to tell one way or the other what Burns will be, but if he's more in their mold, he'll be a great one.

Do you think Tuberville would be open to shifting his offense to more of an option-type when Burns takes over? If he does have poor accuracy, that would help him in college immensely.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about that. As for why they are doing that, there are probably 4 times as many ND fans as PU fans in the Indianapolis area. I agree that the PU-OSU game will be a better game, but ND-UCLA will still draw more local viewers.

The Purdue fans are going to be furious though, and I really don't blame them. That's really bad scheduling to put the two biggest programs in the state on at the same time, same channel.

Dear Penn State,

Take it easy on the Hawkeyes this week. We're not very good. Please don't blow us out. I can't believe you guys are only a 7 1/2 point favorite this weekend.

Oh, Soul, thinking that Illinois wont give a game away is silly. The only thing Illinois does is make stupid mistakes in an attempt to give away games. 15 yard punts? Hitting the punt returner when he calls fair catch? Thats the name of the game. 8-)

The only way we win is when we build up a big enough lead to hold off all of our stupid mistakes.
