OK, how about this. He's been much better during the 2nd half. One might say he has been a nice little constant in the offense. Oh and it didn't hurt that he had a hit and drove in 3 of the 4 runs last night. If this were Soto people would be screaming bloody murder if he weren't in the lineup today.

The big difference, though, is that Jacque has proven (despite a small sample size where he's been decent this year) to be worthless against LHP throughout his career. So, why even bother? I'd put Monroe in CF and Murton in RF, just like Lou had been doing against lefties in the last few games.

Signs that your Cub fandom has maybe gone too far....I'm sitting at work and feel as nervous as I did before a big football game in high school. And the game is still an hour away. Boy, I hope the bats are hot today and we can rest easier in four hours!

GO CUBS!

so is jock, but monroe in not murton...

soto lovers happy, murton lovers incensed... i am cautiously optimistic

My fear? They've decided Murton is the odd man out for the playoff roster so they're using their playoff lineup v. LHP. If Murton is left off the playoff roster in favor of Monroe, Jim Hendry should be beaten.

We've been through this. There's not a lot of rationale for fearing Murton being off the playoff roster shy of Cedeno and Fontenot both going along with a 12 man pitching staff.

Murton's not being buried, he just pinch hit for Jacque in a crucial moment the other night.

MIAMI GARDENS — Logan Kensing wasn't the least bit concerned about the last-place Marlins sending Cubs fans into a panic over the possibility of another late-season collapse.

"I cannot stand Cubs fans,'' the Florida reliever said after the Marlins dealt another blow to Chicago's division hopes with a 7-4 victory Wednesday night. "They were passionate at my first start at Wrigley,'' Kensing said, referring to his 2004 debut when he was jeered in a loss. "It's the goat, right?''

I was there for that game. It was part of the double header the Cubs had with the Marlins because of the hurricane. I had awesome seats 2 rows from the field right next to the Cubs dugout. The Cubs split the DH, but it was a great day. Nomar signed my girlfriends' hat (she's obsessed with Nomar) and Alou tossed me a ball.

Kensing got rocked that day. Maybe he should worry more about pitching better and less about the fans.

I was there, too. It was a freakin beautiful day and I cut class with my buddy to see the games. Those were fun times. A damn shame what had to come a couple weeks later.

I was there as well. Jon was too and I think Mark R. It was when I first moved back to Chicago.

I'm pissed that both Monroe and Jacque Jones are on the roster.

We haven't had a semicompetent CF since Kenny Lofton left.

Yeah, I'm pissed at Jones and his 3 RBI last night too.

I mean.. Jones has been alright for a little while now, but this is a terrible way to make an argument.

Steve Trachsel could go out and throw 7 shutout innings today, I'd still be as pissed as I am that he's on the roster and that Lou went to him in a crucial game.

Here's hoping he gets lucky on that one today, though.

Jones last 28 days: .273/.313/.325

Jones had a fantastic August, but, like Kendall, he's been awful the rest of the year.

I'm confused. I was at the hurricane-induced Cubs-Marlins doubleheader in Miami as well -- in fact i lived about a half-hour up the Florida turnpike from Dolphin stadium in those days. That was the day where David F. Weathers beat us in the second game as a starter, and then the Cubs went on their fateful trip to NY and a date with Victor Diaz. But in the quote he refers to Wrigley.

We're talking about the double header at Wrigley in 2004.

They played a double header at Wrigley as well. The whole series was wiped out and they played one of the games they were supposed to play in Florida at Wrigley instead, so they had 4 games in 3 days in Sept. 2004.
