As for what a tough win would be, I would probably classify South Florida as a tough win. West Virginia should win the game, but I'll be surprised if they do it by more than a couple of scores. The Bulls aren't an elite team yet, but are very solid and will give anybody a good fight.

Now a question for you. Why do you use Maryland's wins over Villanova and Florida International as reasons to refer to them as a "very good" team, and then chasitse other teams for playing mediocre 1-A teams - even though those mediocre teams are leaps and bounds better than Nova and FIU?

I agree those wins by Maryland were of poor quality but I also looked at what they had coming back from their very good 9-4 and it pushed them into that territory. How many teams won 9 or more games last year? I think that pushes them over average.

The problem with Maryland is that the only good quality win they had was over Clemson when the Tigers were going through their late season collapse. The next best wins they had were over Miami and Florida State - normally very good wins, but because of their declines the wins were about as meaningful as beating Michigan or Notre Dame this year.

I could see the argument that Maryland is above average, but "very good" is a stretch to say the least.

Honestly, we're debating between what's above average and very good? :D

Gotta have something to do, don't we? :D

God love college football! Now if only Syracuse could be back in the mix again for me! Of course, they do play another cruddy Big 10 team!

I'm not sure if I love or hate college football right now. The Tennessee/Florida game is in less than 24 hours and the outcome of that will likely dictate my view of college football for a while.

I'm rooting for the Vols and then for Florida to beat LSU. It's too bad you guys don't get to play LSU. That's what I like about the Big East, everyone gets to play each other once. Ironically, not in hoops, go figure? Until this year that is.

I'm curious on what teams will sneak up on us this year like Rutgers did last year. I knew they were young and good but I didn't think they were that good. Will it be Tigers Tigers or Bob's Hawkeyes as we all know that Yeti's App St team is pretty good! I do love the ND/Michigan game getting more publicity than about any other game. If they were both 2-0 they would have talked about it and if they were 1-1 the same and now that they both are 0-2...it just never ends. The GTech vs BC game is a heck of a lot bigger impact wise than that game in the scope of things.

I thought Cuse was playing Illinois this week?

Bingo!

If they can contain Williams and he has a bad accuracy day they may have a chance. Slight, but still a chance. The Dome turf may help his speed and God knows we couldn't contain molasses.

Personally, I hope we do play LSU this year - in the SEC Championship game. :D

I really like Mizzou this year. Chase Daniels is a very good (not above average  ) QB and the rest of the team is very solid. If they can beat out Nebraska for the North, I think they'll have a real shot at beating either OU or Texas for the championship.

And as for ND/Michigan, they'll always get exhorbitant media coverage. Just like if the Patriots finished this year below .500, they'd still be the focus of attention ("Oh my, what's wrong with the great Patriots? How will the NFL ever survive without them?").

Mizzou's good enough to take the North, especially with Nebraska coming at home, but if we manage to do that we are going to get reamed something fierce by Texas or OU. We won't be able to stop offenses of that caliber unless something changes.

Nitpick alert- Chase Daniel, no s on the last name

It'll be tough, but I think it's possible for ya'll to upset either one in the championship game.

And sorry for getting Chase's name wrong, I thought about whether the s should be there or not as I typed. 50/50 chance and I got it wrong.

Getting there is the goal though and whatever happens after that could surprise you. Goofier things have happened in the Big 12 Championship game. Just keep getting better each week and have that one strange game when everything goes wrong and you still win.

Has your opinion of Pinkel changed at all though?

They are good enough to take the North and have a 9 win season. I just don't know if I trust Pinkel to not screw it up and lose a couple of games they shouldn't lose.

What's on the front page of espn college football page? Michigan-Notre Dame. What game's gotten the most coverage on SportsCenter? Michigan-Notre Dame.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... hey are there any games between teams that are actually relevant?

I expect a revolving door around ND-Michigan and RedSox-Yankees until Sunday morning.

Comcast just reported the Demetius Jones didnt travel with ND, and is highly considering transferring.

It sounds like NIU is his likely destination. If he wants to come to Evanston, it won't be as QB.

The media proves both ND and Michigan's relevance when they ad nauseam discuss how irrelevant they are during down years. Irony's a beautiful thing.

I said this after week 1. He's long gone.

can't say I blame him. If he wants to play college football... key word being play... it's pretty obvious that he's not going to get the chance at ND, with Joe Montana Jr. already starting as a freshman.

The only thing that has concerned me about Pinkel so far this season is the way he goes completely conservative on offense once we get a big lead in the 2nd half. However, I was comforted by the fact that Pinkel came out this week and took the blame for it happening:

“First of all, I’m responsible for that,” he said.

He used the word “responsible” three more times.

“I’m responsible to get that fixed,” he said, “and I would suggest that I would do that pretty fast.”

I like hearing that. I think he understands the urgency that everyone is feeling towards this team. This is the most talented team we've had in awhile, and it could be our best chance for awhile to win 9-10 games and the Big 12 North. In the three years I've been at Mizzou, Pinkel has definitely improved as a coach and it's good to see him taking responsibility for the lack of consistent play in the 2nd half of games this year.

Oh yeah. That's why I won't be watching it.

Why is there glee nationwide for fans that have no connection to Michigan other than college football? – MS

A: Everyone likes to see Goliath take a hit every once in a while, especially when it’s a program that just oozes arrogance from every pore like Michigan. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Michigan. However, no program, and no fan base, buys into the belief that they’re above everyone else more than this one.

I can't wait to get back to Ryan Field under the lights tomorrow night. It sounds like Evanston has indeed passed something preventing NU from hosting Ohio State at night, so that leaves just 8 Big Ten teams that we're allowed to host at night after Wisconsin became the first ban several years ago. No Big Ten games at night this year, though.

Even though there still won't be any students on campus for another week, it'll make for a good atmosphere. And not only that, but with likely record lows tonight, we'll be in store for great football weather.

By the way, Jones is already enrolled at NIU.

I don't hate ND at all (not saying I like them either), but for NIU purposes, yes it would be awesome.
