I seriously am surprised that people think Mizzou/Illinois is going to be a close game. I'll be shocked if U of I can hang into the 4th quarter. I predict 45-17. If Illinois somehow wins, I'll come back and gladly eat crow.

I'll be extremely surprised if it's a blowout. Both teams should be able to rack up the points.

Juice needs to prove it before I believe it.

my dad scored a pair of free tickets for the PSU game from some vendor or whatever at work, so we're on our way on Saturday

i'm guessing it's gonna be harder to score tickets to next week's game

hotels are so full that people are renting rooms in their houses for $1500+ for the Notre Dame weekend

Notre Dame needs to get embarrassed early and often.

I don't know if PSU is good enough to "embarrass" the Irish, but they certainly are plenty capable of beating them. I'll be very excited if ND can scrape a split of the PSU/Michigan road games in back to back weeks.

On a side note, I can't remember a harder first 8 games for ND in my life. Every team the Irish plays until the calendar turns to November has a great shot at winning their conference except UCLA (only because USC is there) and maybe BC.

i feel sorry for the poor FIU kids this Saturday. they're pretty much guaranteed to get wiped all over the field. on the other hand, it's probably one of their only opportunities to walk onto a field surrounded by 110,000 screaming fans

Don't be so sure. I'm sure Michigan will be scheduling them before too long.

Couldn't have picked a better year to have a totally inexperienced (or, if Sharpley starts, nearly totally inexperienced) QB and all new starters at every skill position, plus a new defensive scheme. Something tells me these 8 games are either going to go really well or really poorly and I'm not putting a lot of money on the former.

It's not exactly a rare chance for FIU.

Here are their major conference teams they play this year:

At Penn State

Maryland

At Miami

At Kansas

At Arkansas

They also played at Miami, at Alabama, and at Maryland last year.

It's actually quite sad. FIU is trying to build their football program, but their AD appears more willing to want the money from these big schools instead of trying to find competitive games for his team. Every small school is going to have a game or two against a big school that they don't have a chance in, but FIU takes it way too far.

hey, who cares if the kids go 0-11 every year so long as the athletic dept. is getting $250,000 per school to go play there?

I'm going to both my team's season openers on Thursday and Saturday respectively. This weekend better not suck.

Wow...one day of rest between games, that's pretty tough.

Syracuse is playing your old coach today...Ty on Saturday. He's already worried about the wind in the Dome and how it'll effect the game. I kid you not.

Death, taxes, and Tyrone Willingham being a stupid football coach.

The only three things we can count on in this world.

I'd like to add irrational expectations from Mizzou football fans.

Illinois' receivers need to prove they can hold on to the ball before I believe it.

Fixed.

The start of college football season is so much more enjoyable when the Cubs suck. It is the one and only thing I hate about them being in the race.

The last two years I've been able to just casually pay attention to the Cubs in September (and completely tune them out on Thursday's, Saturday's and Sunday's).

I would typically watch every crap game that's on tomorrow night and go wall-to-wall on Saturday. Instead I'll watch the Cubs (until the 8th inning when the Iowa game begins) and probably miss some good stuff.

Stupid Cubs. There should be no MLB on Saturday's in September and October.

If this is a slam on Michigans Schedule, I think its off base. Michigan certainly could schedule tougher, but they are not nearly as shameful as others(including most of the SEC). They have Notre Dame on their Schedule and have tried hard to have other quality BCS teams on their schedule. That is 2 quality non-conference games most years. A lot of schools dont have 1. They also havent shied away from playing other BCS schools on the road. Again I am not comparing them to USC, but I could easily name 30 schools that dont schedule as good.

I think Michigan played Oregon on the road once before. That's the only out of conference game other than ND I can even remember them playing on the road - let alone home games against decent teams.

Yes, I'm glad they renewed the ND series, though.

You may want to ask some of the Michigan fans, but I am pretty sure in the last 10 yrs they have also played at UCLA, Washington, Oregon and Syracuse. They have also tried to get Home and Homes with several top SEC schools and have been turned down. How many Top 25 schools even schedule Oregon and Notre Dame in the same season? They scheduled Oregon, Washington and Syracuse when they were a Top 25 team every year also. Again can they do better? Yes. Are they nearly as shameful as some? No
