i feel sorry for the poor FIU kids this Saturday. they're pretty much guaranteed to get wiped all over the field. on the other hand, it's probably one of their only opportunities to walk onto a field surrounded by 110,000 screaming fans

Don't be so sure. I'm sure Michigan will be scheduling them before too long.

If this is a slam on Michigans Schedule, I think its off base. Michigan certainly could schedule tougher, but they are not nearly as shameful as others(including most of the SEC). They have Notre Dame on their Schedule and have tried hard to have other quality BCS teams on their schedule. That is 2 quality non-conference games most years. A lot of schools dont have 1. They also havent shied away from playing other BCS schools on the road. Again I am not comparing them to USC, but I could easily name 30 schools that dont schedule as good.

I think Michigan played Oregon on the road once before. That's the only out of conference game other than ND I can even remember them playing on the road - let alone home games against decent teams.

Yes, I'm glad they renewed the ND series, though.

You may want to ask some of the Michigan fans, but I am pretty sure in the last 10 yrs they have also played at UCLA, Washington, Oregon and Syracuse. They have also tried to get Home and Homes with several top SEC schools and have been turned down. How many Top 25 schools even schedule Oregon and Notre Dame in the same season? They scheduled Oregon, Washington and Syracuse when they were a Top 25 team every year also. Again can they do better? Yes. Are they nearly as shameful as some? No

There is no way they have played at UCLA and Syracuse, I would remember being impressed. Not sure about Washington.

But your point's taken. Michigan is hardly the worst. Hell, almost every top-flight SEC team is much worse.

scUM played at UCLA in 2000, at Cuse in '99.

And Michigan lost to UCLA. :D I was at the game, the temperature was 106 degrees at the Rose Bowl, Michigan was ranked #3 going in and blew a 10 point third quarter lead. It was one of my favorite college football experiences.

Well, call me a monkey's uncle.

Yeah and I remember the Washinton game pretty clear also. I think they played at Washinton in like 2001 and Washington played at Michigan in 2002. I may be wrong about the years.

my friend found a point spread for the Hawai'i vs Northern Colorado game. 59.5 points.

I'd probably take Hawai'i.

I thought it was impressive that Idaho was getting 47 at USC until I saw that line

I wouldnt run up the score on Northern Colorado though. Their backup punter may run out on the field and stab you.

Just got back from ULM-Tulsa. ULM stayed with them for a half, but then just lost it in the second half. A friend told me I was on TV when ULM scored their first TD. I also had fun talking to ULM alum and former NFL QB Bubby Brister.

SIU beat Quincy 59-14. Next up is NIU next Saturday in DeKalb. SIU looks to make the second year in a row in which they have defeated a I-A school.

has dekalb dried?

From what I hear, it's still pretty flooded.

And back on topic, Illinois State (supposedly top 10 I-AA team) lost to Drake (not even a I-AA football school), 27-24. I'd say that's just a little embarrassing.

Miami (OH) 14, Ball State 13.

Sigh.

I could type a million words about this game but no one would read it. Suffice it to say Miami won because they played slightly less crappy and made slightly fewer indefensibly bad coaching decisions than we did.

I just saw LSU's schedule during the replay of their game on ESPN and boy did they get the luck of the home/road scheduling this year. All four of their games against ranked teams are at home - Va Tech, Florida, Arkansas, and Auburn. Their toughest road game is at Alabama. I realize they scheduled the Va Tech game at home but they have no control over where their SEC games are in a given year.

The schedule is definitely in our favor, but last year we had Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, and Tennessee on the road.

it really doesn't matter though. if you assume that in a perfect world the tigers have a 75% chance of beating each of those teams, the probability that they go undefeated is just 32%. Throw in the title game and the probability is down to 24%.

thats the problem with the sec. its a gauntlet like no other. les miles was right.

Really. You think if Florida, Arkansas and Auburn were replaced by Michigan, Penn St and Wisconsin it would be easier. Dont forget Wisconsin beat Arkansas last year in a bowl game and has most of their team back.

Again I am saying that the supposed SEC guantlet isnt remarkably tougher than other BCS conferences. Mostly just more ESPN hype.

Championship game

Okay assume that it's the same difficulty (and I think it is that or the SEC one is tougher).

They still have a tough South Carolina and Alabama games. Those teams are better than anyone left in the Big Ten. Not to mention they're lucky that they don't get Tennessee or Georgia this year. AND they have to play ANOTHER top ten team presumably in the SEC championship game if they make it.

The SEC gauntlet for any team is significantly harder than any conference schedule for another team. Even Kentucky on the SEC schedule is pretty damn good. The league's loaded and deserves all the ESPN hype it gets. It's much much much harder to run through the SEC unscathed than it is the Big Ten, Big XII or Pac 10. The difference is night and day.

And in LSU's case we haven't even considered the fact they play all of that and still got Va Tech.

Good for them. Here in lies the problem. The SEC has annually used this "guantlet" as an excuse not to schedule decent non-conference games. A lot of their bowl games are "quasi" home games. Yet the Big Ten still took 2 out of 3 last year against the SEC. Also I wouldnt have a problem lining Purdue and Iowa up against SC and Alabama. When the SEC starts to prove how great they are by consistently scheduling good non-conference game, then I will believe the hype. So good for LSU and Tennessee for starting to improve their non-conference schedule. I guess If the SEC is so superior they should have no problems with Cal and Va Tech. If the SEC is so darn superior, maybe the SEC title game should just be the National title game and everyone else should just play for "Rest of the Nation Title"
