Well, then it does appear Soto will get his chance. One of Bowen or Hill is likely gone.

On another transaction note, will we make a move to get to 12-pitchers like Lou has indicated we would?

Probably early next week.

my lord, the score has more commercial time than a late night infomercial.

Just turn it off. Believe me, it's not worth listening to.

Unless there's a major shakeup and possibly a trade, I would think that move would wait. They were willing to push their luck for a good 3 weeks talking about the so-called need for 12 pitchers. Now that the entire bullpen is completely rested, I would think they'd be willing to wait another week or two.

Well, Dempster is due back from the DL sometime during the San Fran series next Monday-Wednesday, so I'm fairly certain that's as long as they would wait, but I guess we'll see.

From BP chat today....

dbennett1131 (Columbus): Geovanny Soto is hitting .341/.412/.584 at AAA Iowa. Aren't the Cubs trying to STOP the trend of throwing a "cast of thousands" behind the plate by bringing him up? Soto has to be an upgrade over Hill/Bowen/Blanco...

Christina Kahrl: It's a fair point, but I guess I'm having a hard time believing that his crazy-insane June and July steps up (slugging over .600, then .700) represents anything close to what you can expect from him, and whether or not there's just something about Iowa (where he's hit ten of his dozen bombs) that agrees with him. In the context of his previous development path, this is really pretty remarkable, so I'm still sort of playing wait and see, and remembering who he was in the past couple of seasons. On the other hand, I seem to remember a lot of people getting wild about Jake Fox last year, and that didn't turn out to matter all that much, especially now that he isn't catching.

25 people watching the Transaction forum waiting for confirmation that Geovany Soto has been promoted. Talk about a slow news day...

Yeah, Soto isn't anything special.

But you are talking about a legit opportunity to see an increase of 300+ OPS points out of a position, from the ~400 OPS provide by Hill and Bowen to possibly a 700 from Soto. Any such move is going to draw attention.

I think if they really want their 12 man staff, they should just bring down Pie and call it a day. The guy hasn't been playing and it seems Jones isn't going anywhere.

Hey, I'm here, too. Just wish we had more to pontificate about, like why aren't we hearing more about the 3 teams interested in Izturis?

I'm guessing all three teams are the Cubs

Come Friday it will be 14 full days since the last time Pie actually got a start. Heck, he's only had 4 ABs over those two weeks.

But I'm sure he's learning the ins and outs of the game from Soriano...or something.

Levine mentioned that the Blue Jays and Orioles were having 'aggressive' discussions regarding Izturis. So, while it's not quite "pursuing," at least it's hopeful.

Toronto: "You take him!"

Baltimore: "Heck no. We've been taking Cubs cast-offs for years. It's your turn Canada!"

Toronto: "He wouldn't be able to handle the exchange rate. He's yours!"

Baltimore: GAAAAHHH!! Hendry, you beat us again!"

Interesting.....Izturis would go back to Toronto where he began his career. Please be true.

That'd be quite a combo. Dusty may even say it's the veteran presence needed to save them.

Nah, only Neifi saves teams. Only Neifi.

Izturis for Halladay?

I'd trade Izturis plus his whole salary just for the roster spot.
