What the hell are you gonna get for Bowen at the deadline? Catching tandem the rest of the year should be Soto/Bowen. And I'm not even that optimistic about Soto. Blanco and Hill are just that terrible.

He could be used in a package deal...

I'd keep Blanco just for his defense. Bowen hasn't shown much offense or defense this year.

It's been awhile now and no link. Not sure this is really true

Relax, i am sure that Soto was probably at the workout this morning/afternoon, so it is probably pretty safe to assume he is here. There is just no reason to anounce anything until tomorrow before the game--just in case other transactions/trades come about.

I think we are safe to think this is done!

Yeah, I bet there's nothing official till tomorrow.

No...but'd sure be nice to get a friendly neighborhood wink from our favorite beat reporter....

Really? One person said he heard Bruce Levine report it, correct? Has there been any other confirmation?

ESPN1000 has been mentioning it throughout the day.

Just curious - when have I been known to post untrue rumors around here?

I heard it on the radio.

At least two others have heard it on the same station and at least one other.

Take it with a grain of salt, but again:

Don't kill the messenger.

I've heard it on both stations so I know you're not bsing. :)

It's not a matter of you intentionally posting untrue rumors. But it wouldn't be the first time somebody misheard a report, or passed on an erroneous report. I'm just saying I wouldn't assume it's a done deal until we see something substantial.

Given the fact that at least three other people have heard the same thing, I'd say my hearing and understanding of english is just fine.

I would also argue that the beat reporters for two radio stations confirming the report is something substantial.

Well I hadn't heard anything about other people hearing the same thing or both stations reporting. The fact that both stations are reporting lends more credence, but just a couple weeks ago several posters and several radio stations were reporting the Jones deal as done. All I'm saying is I'm waiting for some actual confirmation of a move.

Yeah, those were posted after I raised the skepticism.

I had emailed Bruce Miles a few days back regarding Soto, and his reply wasn't overly optimistic: "I don't think you'll see him soon, but at some point, the Cubs acknowledge he's owed a look."

I'd be surprised if Soto was coming up only days after saying something like that. But then, ball clubs constantly surprise us.

For once I'm hoping that Levine is the more knowledgeable Bruce. :D

If I recall correctly, BMiles doesn't work home weekend series, so maybe he's not around.

This has to mean Hill is heading back down, right?

Hill is out of options. Assuming he's the one leaving to make room, he'll be going to a different organization.

Hill, Isturis, Eyre, Jones and Murton for Griffey? :D

I WISH....but i heard the report Levine is giving that if izturis is traded then Ronny will be recalled from Triple A

Is this the same Hendry that was there when Baker was there? I love what Lou and JH have been doing lately. Lou has really been a revelation. This appears to be the kind of team Lou was hoping he'd get when he went to Tampa. One with a good mix of veterans and rooks.

I wonder if Hendry wanted to make these types of moves in recent years, but Dusty's lovefest for worthless vets like Neifi got in the way.

Soto isn't with the I-Cubs right now:

MVN | Road to Wrigley[/url]"]Soto Big League Bound?

By Mike Wellman | July 12th, 2007

An Iowa Cubs official said today that Geovany Soto will not be with the Iowa Cubs when they resume PCL play after the All-Star break tonight in Omaha.

He would neither confirm nor deny that Soto has been recalled by the Chicago Cubs, and refused to speculate on any corresponding roster move in the event of a Soto call-up since Chicago doesn’t play until tomorrow afternoon and would have until then to make room for Soto on their 25 man roster.

Stay tuned for further developments as rumors swirl about the makeup of the [Chicago] Cubs’ roster coming out of the mid-season intermission…MW

So I logged onto the score to listen online and hear the Soto report, and I'm listening to them talk about potential transactions. Some Indians fan asked about Shoppach for Jones. Boers claimed Shoppach has been around a long time and been really bad. He's 27 and has played in parts of 3 seasons, and is raking this year. Not sure how that qualifies as being around for a long time.

And these idiots are talking about Jones as a solid CF who is a .280 hitter that has power. So many people in the media think of players ability as a constant. Jones hit .280 last year. But he is hitting .233 right now and hit .250 the 2 years before coming to Chicago. Sure, he's a .277 career hitter, but he's 32 years old now and has been pretty bad for 3 of the past 4 years. Maybe, just maybe, he's a mediocre player declining toward the tail end of their career. Huh? Maybe?

Well, then it does appear Soto will get his chance. One of Bowen or Hill is likely gone.

On another transaction note, will we make a move to get to 12-pitchers like Lou has indicated we would?

Unless there's a major shakeup and possibly a trade, I would think that move would wait. They were willing to push their luck for a good 3 weeks talking about the so-called need for 12 pitchers. Now that the entire bullpen is completely rested, I would think they'd be willing to wait another week or two.
