Looked at Wilson's contract......absolutely terrible. Another 2.3 this year, 6.5 in 2008, 7.25 in 2009, and 600 K buyout in 2010. All for a slick fielding, no-hit SS.

anybody can have overpriced, oft-injured players eating up salary on their roster. burnett was a big fish that free agent year, iirc. ryan's injury couldn't have been predicted, but he was worth what ricciardi paid at the time.

 

Yeah, but Burnett's injury history was well-documented and crystal clear. If Hendry had done the same thing many would be killing him, and perhaps rightfully so. Why does Rioccardi get a pass in this respect?

 

He gets a pass because they're the Blue Jays and we're Cub fans. It's hard for me to get too worked up when other gm's are passing out bad contracts.

That's certainly understandable. What do you know of Paulino and Doumit defensively behind the plate?

Paulino's supposed to be alright. One year he was rated best defensive catcher in the pirate system, not that it means anything. Doumit isn't.

According to an official with another team, the Cubs are gauging interest in shortstop Cesar Izturis. The Cubs are happy with Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot and have Ronny Cedeno at Triple-A, so moving Izturis wouldn't be a shocker.
