With the way the Cubs played last night, this trade could be the spark of something big, like a 6-14 record in the next 20 games.

That would be great.

That lineup was brutal last night. We better get used to it.

The lineup will look a lot better starting on Friday.

Aram coming back on Friday? I missed this. You have made me very happy, my friend.

Yeah, WGN last night and all the papers have said that Aramis should return Friday. He has been taking fielding drills and batting practice the past couple days with no setbacks.

They also said he would probably DH in the Sox series.

Good, that's a smart thing to do to ease him back into action, even if it still doesn't produce our best lineup.

After the end of the Sox series, I would be asking DeRosa if he can play SS again. Theriot and Izturis have been the exact same player since about May 2nd, and that player has not been a good one. If DeRosa would do that, I don't think our lineup would look that bad:

Soriano

Pie

Lee

Ramirez

Floyd

DeRosa

Fontenot

Bowen

Pitcher

Unfortunately, I doubt right now if that's going to happen.

I definitely wouldn't complain about that lineup. I agree with you, it gives us the best chance to win, even if Font had to share time with Theriot I would be happy with it. I think we'll be fine as long as Jones and Izturis do not play.

Seems to me that the cubs gave him away. Fine with me . . . .however, my boy Ryne is not happy. Barrett was his favorite player and we finally get him to his 1st Cub game and it happens to be the game that Barrett is traded. He'll get over it.

Thought I'd give my own scouting report on Bowen. I went to high school with him (he was a Senior when I was a Freshman), but he definitely got drafted for his athleticism behind the plate. Even in High School he wasn't known as much for his hitting, but supposedly his time throwing to second was elite by major league standards even then. Not sure why that hasn't translated into the big leagues yet, but I'd guess that has more to do with guys like Maddux and Young being terrible at holding runners than anything else.

I also went to HHS. Class of 96. Interesting.

Nice, don't suppose you had Mr. Schmidt or Mr. Decker for any s.s. classes? You'd think that for as big as Homestead is, that we'd have more quality athletes than Bowen and Kevin Mitchell.

So according to WGN/Kaplan Barrett was traded because Lou wanted him gone.

Also, according to them couple of weeks ago Barrett walked into Lou's office and asked if he can close the door so they can talk. Barrett then told him that a lot of players are aware that they have been playing poorly and that it's their fault mostly for loosing, but that players are also getting angry/upset that Lou is not taking any responsibility.

Lou didn't think he is responsible and that was the end of conversation. That was also the last straw in Barrett's tenure with Cubs.

Guess we've signed on for a dictatorship.

If this is Barrett's idea of what happened (and it must be him as the source if this is true since there were only two people in that closed door meeting) and reasoning why he is gone then he is in major denial. I think Lou did want him off the team, but I am sure it was because of his passed balls, bone head baserunning, dropping of throws to home that would have cut down go ahead runs, and getting in fights with starting pitchers that forged this opinion, not one lame meeting.

Lou did take responsibility when talking about Barrett. He came out several times in the last week and a half and said that Barrett was being unfairly singled out and that the club loses as a team, and everybody makes mistakes including the manager. He also admitted to playing Barrett too much early in the season, not giving him the proper rest he needed to be most effective.

Either Kaplan is mostly wrong (which I tend to believe from other things he has reported) or Lou has changed his ways quite a bit in the last couple of weeks.

This feud between Lou and Barrett has been apparent for a while, but Barrett's reaction to the question about Lou during his press conference yesterday made it even more crystal clear.

Lou's been routinely tossing players under the bus. Some fans are ok with this, but it's a piss poor people management technique. He's only recently changed his tune on Barrett with the media and surprise surprise, a trade has been in the works for a week.

I don't hate Lou, but if he was the driving force behind getting rid of Barrett, he needs to be smacked. Way to sell low.

Seriously, we got a backup catcher and a very raw prospect with a high ceiling. Whoopee! Not to mention the Cobs are paying the bulk of Barrett's remaining salary. Hendry got bent over. I doubt he wanted to deal low (Hughes and Hendry are Barrett lovers). Somebody else was the driving force behind this move. *cough* Lou *cough*

Barrett has been one of the most accountable Cubs players from day one. He gets up in front of the media and takes it. There are a lot of guys in that clubhouse who run away when they're not doing well.

They asked how he liked Lou or what he thought of him and he put his face up against his arm looking like he was going to cry. It turned out he was holding back laughter. He gave some phony answer about how intense Lou is and talked him up, but he nearly started laughing about 3 times.

You can see press conference on this page:

It happens towards the end of the video. 6:25... I doubt it was laughter, though.

At least we didn't get expensive arthritic crap in return.

Yes, we actually got someone who MIGHT get better. Can't remember last time that happened.

Barrett has sucked all year long. His defense is pitiful. His offense is nowhere near where it has been the past few years.

Who's fault is that?

The guy instigated a fight last year against the sox. It was uncalled for.

This year, instead of being an ass to the other team, he does it with our 2 best pitchers.

Again, who's fault is that?

He can whine, bitch, and moan about Lou or whatever, but the reason he got traded is because HE is a hot-headed piece of crap catcher with a somewhat decent (but now declining) bat.

It will be interesting to see if Bowen can stay close to Barrett's offense the rest of the year. I think he can, but I know that's very much in dispute. If he can stay within 50 points of OPS of Barrett, I'd probably call the trade a success considering 1) the upgrade in defense, however small it will be, 2) Bowen is here after this year, 3) the prospect, and 4)Bowen can catch Z without any problems, which helps flexibility.

I hope Barrett does well in SD because I liked him-I just hope Bowen matches him or does a little better.

are we still talking about this?

There's a 48 hour window for all trade talk, this deal went down Wednesday morning so any and all discussion revolving around the deal must cease and desist ASAP.
