are we still talking about this?

There's a 48 hour window for all trade talk, this deal went down Wednesday morning so any and all discussion revolving around the deal must cease and desist ASAP.

Does that mean we can't bitch about the Pierre trade anymore?

there's an exception to just about every rule

i'm all for trade talk as long as it isn't 50 pages of repeating the same thing over and over and over again

Has he been traded within the past 48 hours?

One last note: Sullivan claims that Barrett was the mole who leaked to the media that players were upset with Lou. So apparently he met with Lou and wanted him to take some blame, they obviously disagreed so then he leaked stuff to the media to get his point out there.

Oh the drama.

Barrett has sucked all year long. His defense is pitiful. His offense is nowhere near where it has been the past few years.

Who's fault is that?

The guy instigated a fight last year against the sox. It was uncalled for.

This year, instead of being an ass to the other team, he does it with our 2 best pitchers.

Again, who's fault is that?

He can whine, bitch, and moan about Lou or whatever, but the reason he got traded is because HE is a hot-headed piece of crap catcher with a somewhat decent (but now declining) bat.

I honestly don't see the big deal with what he did with Hill.

And it's inexcusable to put all the blame on Barrett for what happened in that fight.

Everyone remember how the Z/Barrett fight happened. And everyone hated Z and wanted him gone and were glad that he was gonna leave as a free agent. He finally crossed the line and his antics had grown tired.

Now not so much.

The retroactive blame on Barrett for Z being a douchebag that day is absurd.

I gave Barrett partial blame from the outset. Z started the argument, Barrett chose to escalate, and they both chose to get physical at the same time.

the guy who punched him in the face probably deserves a little bit of fault. i don't know, that's just me.

this seems to be a recurring thing w/ the cubs...the team sucks so one guy is singled out as being the problem. that guy is then shipped out and the team still sucks.

I don't recall Barrett escalating anything. He gestured towards DeRosa I believe it was to ask his opinion on something after Z bitched him out and then Z slugged him.

as I understand it, Z said something to the effect of "dude, think out there, you threw the ball away and it cost us a run" and Barrett pointed at the SCOREBOARD and said "dude, look how many runs/hits you've give up" and then Z punched him

We all thought that, but I believe I remember reading that Barrett was gesturing towards a middle infielder (again, I believe DeRosa) that was at the top of the dugout, not the scoreboard.

Not even close.

The first physical contact was each player grabbing at each other. Right before it happened Z was backing up and Barrett was moving toward him.

I find it funny how secretive the Cubs can be. I believe it was ESPN that first broke the story that Barrett was traded. That was at 8:30 am cst or around that time.

The morning sports guy on WGN news mentioned yesterday that he and the staff called the Cubs when they heard and they just wanted confirmation before they reported it on their noon newscast. He said that up until 11:30am the Cubs were denying a trade and said, "we have no idea what you're talking about or where you're hearing that Michael Barrett was traded".

Shhhhhhhh......gotta keep the Bowen acquisition under wraps.

Barrett was moving towards Z, however, it did not appear at all to be in a threatening manner. Eh, whatever, the Cubs are still sucking regardless.

I think it's against the rules to give details of a trade before it's finalized by the league office

The Tribune's Paul Sullivan says that Barrett was the clubhouse "mole" that leaked information to ESPN that made it appear like Piniella had lost the team. Barrett did not get along with Piniella and after his "mole" status was revealed he was shipped out.

The way the papers described it, Barrett went toward Z not to punch him, but to try to settle things down. And when Z got sent to the showers by Lou, Barrett (again, according to the Herald, I believe) went down to try to apologize or mend fences or whatever and Z punched him twice.

The physical aspects of that fight in no way fall on Barrett's shoulders.

The papers?

If you are in a very loud, emotional face to face argument, would you ever think that getting closer to the other person would be a good way to settle things down? The papers reported that Barrett went into the clubhouse to calm things down, that was after the initial fight.

The physical aspects of that fight very much fall on Barrett's shoulders. They both reached out and grabbed each other simultaneously.
