If the wind's blowing out, this game may very well end with a score of something like 18-14.

SWEET!

I so want to see a total blowout/slugfest.

Luckily for us, Marquis is a groundball pitcher.

Unluckily for us, he sucks.

Anyway, I'm getting ready to leave any minute now.

GO CUBS!

Lou really should flip Lilly and Marquis for the next start. We have an off day on monday to flip them back. Seattle is a lefty team, the Fathers are the righty based team.

On a side note- is this just me....Young Jason Marquis, Jason Marquis, an old Jason Marquis?

Ehh, kinda look alike. I just know a guy who is a Biggs twin so this doesn't really compare.

On another side note, Adam Eaton is the Lovechild of Johnny Drama and Ethan Hawke.

But hasn't Seattle killed lefties this year? I thought I heard something about them being 16-3 against lefties.

Well, actually they are 6th in OPS overall in the AL, 6th vs lefties and 6th vs righties. The Padres are 13th overall in the NL, but 5th against lefties and 15th against RHP.

So yeah, I have to agree. Why not throw Lilly today, then open with Marquis and Zambrano against the Pads with Hill going Sunday.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't do anything with the rotation after the back to back super short outings.

Game Notes

The Cubs improved to 7-6 in June with a 3-2 victory over the Mariners last night at Wrigley Field … with the score tied 1-1, Mike Fontenot’s 2-run, bases loaded single to right in the fifth inning proved to be the game winner as starter Sean Marshall allowed 2 runs over 8.0 innings of work and Ryan Dempster appeared in his fourth straight game and picked up his 14th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Chicago played its fourth consecutive game decided by 2 or fewer runs (2-2) and it marked the team’s second 1-run victory in its last 3 games … Chicago defeated Houston by a score of 2-1 Monday at Wrigley Field. ©

On the season, the Cubs are 5-13 in 1-run games and are 6-8 in 2-run games.

FELIX FEELIN’ FINE: Since he was recalled to begin his second stint with the Cubs June 3, center fielder Felix Pie has batted .326 and produced a .400 on-base percentage in 11 games … he began his season at Triple-A Iowa before he was recalled for the first time on April 17 and hit .224 with a .240 on-base percentage in 18 games before he was sent back to Iowa May 10.

Here’s a comparison of Pie’s 2 stints with Chicago this season:

Pie G AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO OBP SLG

4/9-5/10 18 .224 49 6 11 3 1 1 4 0 0 1 10 .240 .388

6/3-6/13 11 .326 43 10 14 3 0 1 8 5 1 6 7 .400 .465

PUMPING UP THE OBP: A night after Cubs batters tied a season high with 8 walks Tuesday against Seattle, Chicago drew 5 free passes last night against Mariners pitching … Chicago has drawn 47 walks in June, tied for third-most in the N.L. and tied for fourth in the majors … the team’s 13 walks over their last 2 games ties the most they’ve drawn over a 2-game span this season – also accomplished May 5 (8 walks) and May 6 (5 walks) vs. Washington.

The Cubs are sporting a .342 on-base percentage this month, 17-points higher than their .325 May OBP … Chicago recorded a .326 OBP in April.

More from the game notes...

SERIES SPEAK: The Cubs need a win today to take this 3-game set and win their first series at home since taking 2-of-3 from the Chicago White Sox, May 18-20 … the Cubs’ last home series victory against a National League club was a 3-game sweep of Washington, May 4-6.

Chicago is looking to win consecutive interleague series for the first time since the 2004 campaign … that year, the Cubs went 2-1 in Anaheim, June 11-14, then took 2-of-3 at home vs. Oakland, June 18-20 … Chicago has posted a 5-8-0 interleague series record since that Oakland series.

GETTING THE JOB DONE: Cubs starters have gone 6-2 with a 2.58 ERA (20 ER/69.2 IP) over the team’s last 12 games dating to June 2, and have allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 10 of those outings … prior to this stretch, Chicago’s starters had gone 1-7 with a 5.35 ERA (44 ER/74.0 IP) in their previous 12 outings, May 19-June 1.

Since June 2, the Cubs pitching staff has recorded a 2.72 team ERA (33 ER/109.0 IP), the best ERA in the N.L. and second in the majors to Oakland’s 1.74 ERA (20 ER/103.1 IP). ©

The Cubs have a .228 batting average against in their last 12 games, tops in the N.L. and third in the majors behind Oakland (.206) and the Angles (.228) since June 2.

GETTING THE BIG HIT: The Cubs went 0-for-5 with no RBI with the bases loaded Tuesday night vs. Seattle, but the club was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI with the bases juiced last night … Chicago is hitting .217 (13-for-60) with 3 home runs and 43 RBI with the bases loaded this season … the 3 grand slams are tied for second-most in the N.L. with Houston as the Washington Nationals lead the Senior Circuit with 4 slams.

Chicago began the season 6-for-13 (.462) with the bases loaded through April 28 at St. Louis, but have gone just 7-for-47 (.149) since then … recently, the Cubs have gone 2-for-11 (.182) with a walk with the bases loaded since June 8 in Atlanta.

Jacque Jones leads the club with 11 plate appearances with the sacks full this season, and has gone 3-for-10 (.300) with a hit by pitch in that situation … Mark DeRosa is second on the club with 10 bases-loaded plate appearances (4-for-7/.571, HR, 13 RBI, 3 BB).

This series notwithstanding, the Mariners are well over .500 versus LHP.

Weaver vs. Marquis. . . wow

Has Marquis faced Suppan yet? Or Morris yet? Or Williams yet? Is it just me or do the Cards have more exes out there than other teams?

Weaver is either finally gonna break out of his slump and shut us down for 7 innings, or he's gonna give up 7 in 1 2/3... there's no in between.
