MILWAUKEE -- Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez had to leave Wednesday's game in the second inning after injuring his left knee running to first base.

Ramirez suffered a strained left knee, the team said. He was trying to beat the throw from Milwaukee shortstop J.J. Hardy in the second, and was safe on an error by the infielder. Ramirez appeared to be hobbling after he reached first base. He was lifted defensively in the Brewers second inning.

Hopefully he doesn't have to go to the DL.

I guess it's better, as far as how long it'll be before he returns to the lineup, than injuring a hammy or a quad?

Stupid hustling, but at least all the jackass sports djs and and baseball know-noithings will be happy.

If he was more used to hustling, he wouldn't get hurt every time he actually does hustle.

I agree. And usually injuries like these can be caused by not stretching properly or enough before the game.

Hustling or not, injuries can happen. I'd rather have my guy give 100% every time if if something happens while trying hard, I'll live with it.

I'd rather have a guy loaf to first on a sure groundout and be able to play the entire and lead the team in HRs and RBIs than have him get hurt on a play he would have been retired on anyway.

what? a strained knee can usually be avoided by stretching properly. I would tend to disagree, he could have just landed wrong or something. And all the proper stretching would not stop twisting a knee as you land wrong. Sorry...

I believe CM was being facetious.

Even a player who doesn't hustle much at all will reach out for the bag with his leg like that on a close play at first (responding to one of the posters who was serious). Hustling normally and getting hurt on this play have almost nothing to do with one another.

Ramirez has been playing with a tweaked knee for about 3 weeks now and has been favoring it...he hustled and hurt it more....

ARAM is what he is, he is a bat....a glove two steps left or right .... and an important part of this team...

Now people are going to see why Cubs signed DeRosa....who will probably play 5-7 games at 3B....

He's a damn good bat, and from my perspective he's 10 million times better than most of the bozos we trotted out to play 3B over the past 30 years.

Nurse his legs, keep him fresh any way you can.

But he wasn't retired.

Not that it really is my argument, I'm just pointing that out.

Man, I didn't see the game today, and didn't even know this. GREAT. This team needed this right now. I hope it's not serious. If there is any hope for the Cubs to come back to life, he will need to be part of it.

I'd like to jump on and say I'd rather Ramirez take it easy. I don't mean loaf. But do not try to run faster than he really can. He's had a history of "pulling this" or "tweaking that" over the last few years. Don't know if it's his weight or just his body chemistry.

He played in 157 games last year.

He's a slow runner. Even when he's hustling, he's as slow as molasses. Plenty of speedy guys have hurt themselves running to first base. Corey Patterson's ACL injury was awkwardly hitting first base.

Aramis has been running and hustling and getting on down as far as I can tell this season. I hate to see this tweak / strain / hopefully not an injury being played up as some sort of hustling issue. I just want Aramis to hit the hell out of a baseball and field his position adequately, and he's done both just fine so far.

I think he's by far the most under-rated player on the team.

Agreed. I just don't get some of the criticism. Yeah, it would be nice if he hustled down the line more, but it's no big deal. He's leading the team in homers, hitting around .300 and playing damn fine defense.

As long as that continues, I don't care if he drives a Rascal out of the box.

I don't mind him sitting out a game or two, but this better not turn into Soriano Part II where he sits on the bench for 10 days and Lou has to deal with a shorter bench solely because the Cubs don't want to put him on the DL.

Easily. A guy who puts up the numbers he has in the 4 seasons with the Cubs AND who leaves probably $40m on the table to resign here deserves more respect that he gets.

I would kill to see someone with some Photoshop skills make this.

While Ramirez certainly has had lapses in hustle in past season, I haven't seen any indications of that this season. I think he's hustled all year. I've been very happy for him, it seems to me he's matured as a player.

For what it's worth (re: hustling).

EDIT: While it likely goes without saying, I hope he's OK.
