Sosa hits 2 HR's and his team loses 9-4...some things never change

Rather than throw off the alignment of the page. (A LOT OF EYE ROLL SMILEYS.)

Stats behind it: Rangers fall to 2-3 in games Sosa homers in.

Orioles in '05: 7-4 in games Sosa homered in. (O's were also a TERRIBLE team)

Cubs in '04: 20-12 with Sosa homer

Cubs in '03: 24-10

Cubs in '02: (even worse than the '05 O's) 23-21

Should I keep going or should I wait for the anecdotal evidence of "all those times Sammy hit those meaningless HRs in the 9th and kissed the camera and walked out early on the team and corked his bat and did steroids" Cause if that's all that's coming, I'd rather not sit and count the games in which he hits is 64 HRs in '01 just to show they had a great record in those games.

Wow, you caught some serious feelings there. Did Sammy pull you out of a burning car? All I was talking about was the fact that Sosa was on a lot of bad teams with the Cubs, and they tended to lose a lot.

Did Sammy throw you into one?

So was Ernie Banks. In fact, the Cubs were much worse during his career than they were during Sosa's. The Cubs were a bad team during Sosa's career with them. The Cubs have been a bad team during everyone's career with them since WWII. To create some sort of connection of Sosa's time with the team being the reason the Cubs lost is akin to blaming Hendry for letting Paul Bako go when all he did was average 88.5 wins in his time on the north side.

I don't think he did that-I interpreted what he said to mean that even though Sammy was that good, the teams were so bad that they'd even get blown out on many of his great days.

I don't think he made any correlation there SSR.

No, I don't think that was all KingCubfans were talking about.

After a lifetime of hearing Sosa only hits meaningless HRs, when I see a post like that, that's what I assume. I don't understand the context of it any other way.

I agree.

I'm way more pumped about Sammy's 600th than any HR-related record that has come up since '98. I hope he makes it past 630 this year and has enough in the tank to push 675 next year.

If he keeps hovering around the mendoza line, I can't see him getting enough at bats. Here's to him getting his average up.

That would be over 80 home runs between this season and next.

Sammy has his faults (don't we all?), but the good certainly outweighs the bad. I'll always appreciate the great moments I had watching him play. Being at Wrigley for Game 1 of the '03 NLCS when he went yard will probably be the greatest sporting moment I see live. It's sad that the media chose to avoid a lot of the good he did. On his rehab with the Jaxx (a story I have shared before) there was a lot of things that didn't make the news. The fact that he had a limo certainly made the news, but the great things he did for the Jaxx players and their families was awesome. Too bad a lot of those things missed the articles.

Always a fan.

Awesome!!!

Sosa, by the way, has the MLB record for hitting a homerun in the most stadiums.

Yup, today's homer broke McGriff's record and Sosa now has gone yard in 44 ballparks.

Does anyhave a list of parks he has homered in? Or parks he hadsn't homered in? I'd like to see how much higher he can push this.

Just read today that the only current parks he has not homered in are RFK and Busch III. The Rangers play in neither of those parks this season.

Sosa went deep again in the eighth against Tom Mastny to move closer to joining Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays in the 600 homers club.

Five members of the club. I think that's all you really need to know about Sammy.
