Go Sammy! I wish we would of signed him, he would of cured our lack of offence

Doubtful. While I'm enjoying Sammy's dingers, his numbers are as of now pretty bad:

Guillen said Sammy is gonna get hit.

Screw Guillen, his act is getting old, talk about bush league.

Isn't that pretty much guaranteeing a fine or suspension? Should a major league manager be carrying out vendettas for his fanbase and openly saying he's going to instigate something with another team because a guy hit a home run and hopped?

Sammy rubbed it in pretty good and it was a meaningless homer. I would think it was pretty lame if a similar thing happened to the Cubs.

See, I didn't see it happen, and I haven't seen a clip. Did he just hop more than usual, or did he walk down the baseline or something?

He hopped and then kind extended his arms like he was an airplane as he ran to first base. It wasn't that big of a deal but I can understand why it would upset the White Sox.

Eh. That's pretty weak. Sounds like he got excited that he belted a 3 run home run after the fans were all over him. If he didn't do anything to show up the other team, there's not much justification for post game rantings.

He took alot of crap from the Sox fans...why? What do they have against Sammy? Seriously. It doesn't make sense.

1) "If Sammy behaves like that, someone will get mad at him and hit him."

2) "I am going to have my pitchers throw at Sammy."

I doubt Guillen gets in trouble for this; all he has to do is 'explain' his statement. Most of think he said (2), but he could easily claim that he meant (1). Whether that claim would hold water with DePuy or whoever adjudicates these things, I don't know, but the burden of proof may be high. A lot might depend on how blatantly the pitch was targeting Sammy.

It's not hard to imagine him throwing out the following douchebag line:

"You know, me an' Sammy we used to play together, that comment was me watchin' out for him an' warning him, now people are mad 'cause we Latinos watch each other's back"

I need not remind you that we've seen him pull this kind of crap before...as though Latin solidarity has anything to do with the issue.

Completely agree. I'm sure he knows all about Sox fans and the fact that they've been among the most vocal supporters of all anti-sammy discussion. If someone did the same to the Cubs, yes I think it would be pretty lame too, but if we welcomed someone the same way before they did it, I would completely understand. Players in any sport LOVE to silence hostile fans on the road.

So here's your timeline:

1) Sammy arrives in what can only be described as an extremely hostile environment on the South Side

2) Sox fans give it to Sammy every time he makes an appearance, booing up a storm

3) Sammy hits a 3-run blast. In his excitement, he hops a little higher, stretches his arms out a little more than usual.

4) Guillen calls for Sammy to be hit.

How on God's green earth can this be construed as Sammy's fault? As if Sox fans wouldn't enjoy Konerko doing the same if he was booed to that extent on the road and then hit a dinger. Give me a break.

Sox fans have long been known to be the most hypocritical fans on the planet. And now they've got a hypocrite for a manager, and a hypocrite for an owner to go with it.

I think it is part of their Cub obsession.

C'mon guys. I hate to defend Ozzie but the exact quote I heard was:

''I will walk Teixeira and pitch to Sammy Sosa every day of the year,'' Guillen said. ''Teixeira isn't going to beat me. Sammy, be ready because you have to hit.''

He didn't threaten a beaning; he was defending his decision to walk Teixeira and pitch to Sammy.

Me too, but if our fans are treating someone like crap and he goes yard on us, then I expect him to do something like that. I'd still be angry, but I'd expect it.

Pujols did this once against the Cubs in Wrigley. He was being boo'd at every at-bat and in one he either hit a HR or got an RBI hit and later came in to score. On his way back to the visitor's dugout, he placed his index finger on his lips in 'shut up' fashion. That was probably only the 158,679th time I contemplated some sort of physical violence against Albert Pujols involving my foot and his face. It wouldn't be fair though, he's kind of old.

Did you catch Downey's article in the Tribune this morning.

A Vote for Sosa - http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-070418downey,1,6528638.column?coll=chi-sportstop-hed

I've still got mixed feelings on the HOF thing. I know Downey has a point here, but Sammy's childish leaving early during the Cubs last regular season home game back in 2004 really pissed me off. :x I felt this was kind of the last straw in my book. No HOF-quality guy walks out on the team just because he's pissed off at himself, his manager, his team, or whatever.

He was fined for that, wasn't he? Not that the money matters. Remember Ryno's HOF speech, and his not-so-subtle digs against attitudes of guys like Sammy. Very timely and apropos. I'm thinking, if Ryno ain't going to vote this guy in, that says something. It means, "you may be famous, but I sure wouldn't invite you into my hall". Wouldn't invite him into mine either. :!:

Sammy drew a walk tonight to break up Buerhle's perfect game tonight, but he still got a no-hitter.

Good for Sammy. Still the worst night of sports I can remember.

You know that the Cubs front office released the video of Sosa leaving to get everyone against him, right? Sosa also said that he had permission from Baker to leave.

And even if he DID leave without permission etc etc, are you really going to not let Sammy into the hall because of that? Do you think that maybe Ryno was jealous over all of the attention Sosa was getting?

If I was getting into the Hall of Fame, I really doubt I'd use the moment to rip on others. Then again, that's just me.

I'm pretty sure the Hall of Fame has to do with the numbers a player puts up in his career, not what kind of attitude he sports. If that was the case, guys like Ty Cobb probably wouldn't be in the HOF. Unless Sammy gets caught using steroids or something like that, there is no reason he shouldn't be a first ballot HOFer.

I also realize that the voters don't always see it like this, and they'll use things like Sammy "walking out" ( ) on his team against him, which is completely unfair.

Ah memories, i can still remember Sammy Sosas hot sauce commercial. wonder if its on youtube.

I still remember the '98 McD's commercial:

Sammy to kid: "Now ees your turn to swing de bat and hit de homerun".

I agree with Soul, worst night of sports in quite a while.

The worst I can remember since - well you know - would be Victor Dias' homer in late Sept '04. I think the Cubs were still up in the WC race by 1/2 game, but everyone knew the season was down the toilet after that game.

Also, I posted before I read the article, and I completely agree with Downey's take on Sammy. He has never failed a drug test, he didn't back down at Congress, he declared that he never took steroids (albeit through an interpretor, but who cares), and the only mistake he made was with the corked bat. However, what proof do we actually have that a corked bat makes the ball go farther? As far as I know, we have none (if I'm wrong on this, please correct me). Plus, this quote from the article is more telling to me than the actual corked bat:

Every other bat in Sosa's possession had to be X-rayed. They were legit.
