Yeah, I just checked the stats and we only got 2 guys in the NL top 50 for OBP so far this season: Lee & Ramirez. That's even less than Florida and Colorado got. Ugh!

Months? Are we talking just this year (in which case, this doesn't make sense, nobody uses pre-season in a comparison between players). Or are you including last season? I may be braindead, but I don't even remember Hill doing anything significant last year. All I can recollect is that he was one of many going up and down last year as players came on/off the DL. Am I missing something here? You sure have. Hill's ERA's was I think in the top ten list in all of Baseball post all star break last year. He had 8 or 9, REALLY good starts. That looked just as good as his starts this year. You aren't remembering correctly if you don't remember how awesome Rich was even late last year, through several starts in a row at the end of the season. . Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I was probably so depressed during the second half of last year I just stopped paying attention. My bad. :oops:

I can always find a spot on Ashland between or near Addison and Waveland. It's no biggey to walk the 7-8 blocks east to the park. Plus it's supposed to start warming up this weekend, so the walk would be nice. Much faster than trying to drive any closer to Wrigley. Plus, it's free!

Mid-season clinic. OMG! What a concept! Can't believe this is the first guy to realize that learning "on the job" (during the game that is), just ain't going to cut it. I know Downey has a point here, but Sammy's childish leaving early during the Cubs last regular season home game back in 2004 really pissed me off. :x I felt this was kind of the last straw in my book. No HOF-quality guy walks out on the team just because he's pissed off at himself, his manager, his team, or whatever. He was fined for that, wasn't he? Not that the money matters. Remember Ryno's HOF speech, and his not-so-subtle digs against attitudes of guys like Sammy. Very timely and apropos. I'm thinking, if Ryno ain't going to vote this guy in, that says something. It means, "you may be famous, but I sure wouldn't invite you into my hall". Wouldn't invite him into mine either. :!:

Whenever they get run crazy like this, I get worried that they're wasting it all on one game and we'll see nothing but crap for the rest of the week. So, clearly they are on a roll. Does this mean the line-up works?

The responders here are too obsessed with baseball. Len Kasper??? If he wasn't calling for the Cubs, would you even have heard about him? At least everyone knows, or at least recognizes who Bob Uecker is, even if they don't watch baseball. Jim Nantz, from the current crop of broadcasters, is one of the all-around best. He calls games in multiple arenas, and does them all superbly. The right amount of emotion and know-how. I prefer it when he's the guy calling the game instead of the guy back at the studio. CBS needs to put him on the front line more often, leave the studio gig to some face man who job is simply to sum up and shift us from one game to the next. I mean, who listens to those studio guys? Isn't that when everyone goes to the jon or the fridge anyway? For me the vote is still out on Brent Musberger and Al Michaels. I like them, but not sure if I'd put them in the line-up with Nantz. For the previous generation, I'd go with Marv Albert.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Dick Enberg?????!!! Boy do I hate that guy! And his lame-o human interest stories. I can't believe there's even a Wikipedia article on him, the bonehead must have wrote it himself. If we're including the color guys in this discussion, I happen to think Piniella is the absolute worst. Every playoffs I'd get disgusted when he popped back on the scene. Now I gotta watch him and his gum chewing every frickin' game! Don't know which is worst: him and his gum or Dusty and his tooth pick.

I think it's the entire 7th now. I've always been curious, why doesn't Pat Hughes call the whole came? Is it something in his contract, or does WGN want to avoid having to pay one play-by-play guy for a full 9 innings? I mean, if the game goes into extra innings, Pat still calls those. So why do they need this stand-in guy? I liked Andy, but always thought it was strange that he only stepped in for a half inning, the same inning, every game. Never varied. He was obviously there in the booth for the whole game, "tracking the scores" as Pat says. Congrats to him on his new gig, must be nice calling a whole game for a change.

Granted, we'll miss his bat, but I want to see Nomar, Walker and Neifi in the line-up, to see how their batting is head-to-head. Don't you?

Ok, guys, help me out here. I've been trying to understand some of the transaction lingo used when guys are traded, dumped, moved, etc. Can someone tell me what it means when a guys is optioned versus outrighted to the minors? What does designated for assignment mean? As in, Borowski was designated for assignment awhile ago, but I haven't seen anything else on him, whereas Remlinger was designated and since traded. Does that mean Borowski is hovering in baseball purgatory or something? Are the Cubs still paying him? Please help me out. I've posted this question before on other blogs, but haven't gotten an answer.

Awesome! I've been waiting for him to come back up from the minors. We need to ditch some more overpaid/underperfoming "talent" and give these young guys some time in the Big Leagues.
