Huh...I didn't realize that Tony Gonzalez is a free agent this year. It's unlikely, but if KC can't get him re-signed, and doesn't franchise him, I hope the Bears would take a look in his direction. Don Banks on CNNsi.com says he's likely to be franchised if he's not signed, so it's likely a moot point.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone here have a problem with Lovie having attended the KC/IND game? I don't personally, but I've seen people complaining both on TV and message boards.

No problem. It's not like they'd have an advantage if they watched the NFC games live on TV, they don't strategize based off the video from the TV feeds.

I think this is obvious to most knowledgable people, including the mediots. I think the problem, as seen by those who complain about it (not me), is that Lovie should have been preparing by watching game tape of his potential opponents and maybe preparing Rex, although that is what Wade Wilson is for.

(this is directed to those people_)

Are you freaking serious? Is Lovie Smith supposed to toil for 2 weeks straight to assemble tape for Rex Grossman? Do you even know what Head Coaches do?

He gave the team the weekend off. Christ almighty.

I also don't see the problem with Lovie going to the Colts game. I guess I shouldn't be surprised people are upset about it, but those are the same idiots that think Kyle Orton should be starting. I'm also a little confused as to the uproar about Rex's comments last week. Honestly, it made me feel a little better that he didn't take it seriously as opposed to him being fully prepared and still sucking.

I heard his comments before they media had a chance to write them up, and I knew at the time people would say what they did about them. It was a harmless comment on his part, but any PR person would have told him not to say it, because it can be easily manipulated into a "I didn't try" type statement. ESPN has had a field day ripping Rex for this one.

I would not like to see them spend that much on another aging receiver. Gonzalez is very good, but he's not the same dominant force he was at his peak. He's scored just 7 TD's combined over the past 2 years, one less than Desmond Clark. He's obviously better than Clark, but I'm not sure he is better than Clark to the extent that he will be paid. I'd much rather see them solidify the aging offensive line and shore up the defense with whatever space they have under the cap, than spend big on a name player who is on the wrong side of 30.

Tommie Harris may be on injured reserve and not eligible to play before next season.

:(

I don't get it.

IIRC, if he's put on the IR he can't come off until the next season. Meaning he wouldn't be able to play at all next year.

That doesn't make sense. The quote, which is common knowledge I thought, is stating that Tommie Harris cannot play in the playoffs. He will be able to play opening day next year. I am not sure what you are saying.

He'll be back next season.. He's on IR for this season, not next. Even that quote just says that he won't be eligible to play before next season.

In fact, the injury wasn't as bad as had been feared and he's ahead of schedule in his recovery.

IR only lasts till the end of the current season. He can play next year.

I know. I had thought it was pretty much a forgone conclusion Harris wouldn't play before next year anyway.

Oh. I was under the impression that the quote meant he would be starting next year on the IR, therefore missing next year altogether. I thought it said "Tommie Harris may be on the IR and not eligable to play next season".

My mistake.

His explanation is that Rex is more concerned about the where the next party is than what the next job is.

Not sure if this was known or not, but Chris Harris will apparently start at strong safety instead of Todd Johnson.

Chris Harris will get the start at strong safety instead of Johnson so a Burleson-Johnson encounter may have to wait.

Would rather see Harris at free, with Johnson in there at SS. But either way is fine. My guess is Todd will see the field a lot.

Eh? Basically a wash. Chris harris always seemed to me like he had the talent to play, but not quite the mind to play as a good safety. Todd Johnson is...eh as well.

I keep hearing that Danieal Manning is consistently out of position. I'm not qualified to say yes or no on the subject, plus its hard to see downfield with the cameras always pointing at the quarterback as he drops back, so if anyone wants to weigh on this, please do.

Dear God please tell me that he didn't really say that. Please.

He most certainly did.

Manning has been really inconsistent with positioning.

The second Detroit game is a great example. On the touchdown pass to Mike Furrey(a personal favorite) in the third quarter, they were in a zone where Devin Hester had the fflats, Manning had over the top coverage in the end zone. Furrey went past Hester and It was Manning's job to stay over the top if the flanker ran past the cb(hester). He was late in his recognition and Kitna was able to lob the ball over Hester to Furrey. Manning should have never gaver Furrey that much space.

But Manning is very athletic and a really good open field tackler, when he learns to play that center field positioning he will be pretty good. Chris Harris in my opinion is outstanding playing inside the box, but thats why Brown is so good because he can make an impact in the run game, and is almost never out of position during passing plays.

Unbelievable. I knew as soon as Rex made that statement about not being prepared, everyone would be all over it. I know it seems silly, but Rex seems to be singled out and ripped on more than any other player I've seen in a while. Also, I'm pretty sure Rex is a gametape freak and a pretty hard worker. Plus, I think Orton is way more of a partier than him.
