boomer esiason says rex grossman is the paris hilton of quarterbacks :?:

His explanation is that Rex is more concerned about the where the next party is than what the next job is.

Unbelievable. I knew as soon as Rex made that statement about not being prepared, everyone would be all over it. I know it seems silly, but Rex seems to be singled out and ripped on more than any other player I've seen in a while. Also, I'm pretty sure Rex is a gametape freak and a pretty hard worker. Plus, I think Orton is way more of a partier than him.

SORRY EVERYONE I NEED TO VENT

Esiason is a moron!!!! I am so sick and tired of people jumping on Grossman. Not because im a bears fan or the Bus driver for Team Grossman, but I seriously hope he goes ape "poopy" on the seahawks. They are raggin on him for being honest. The game was meaningless, and a week earlier, in another meaningless game, he looked like he lost his puppy when he got taken out. The national media and the token local blowhard(rosenbloom via marriotti) conveniently forget about the history of this team especially the last ten years, and the truly rancid quarterbacks we have seen.

So as "bad" as Grossman has been, he is the first quarterback since Eric Kramer to: 1. start all 16 games in a season 2. Pass for over 3000 yards

Enjoy this gaggle of Crap: Here are the passing leaders for this team since Kramer's first year in 94

2005 Orton, Kyle 368 190 1,869 9 13 59.7

2004 Hutchinson, Chad 161 92 903 4 3 73.6

2003 Stewart, Kordell 251 126 1,418 7 12 56.8

2002 Miller, Jim 314 180 1,944 13 9 77.5

2001 Miller, Jim 395 228 2,299 13 10 74.9

2000 McNown, Cade 280 154 1,646 8 9 68.5

1999 Matthews, Shane 275 167 1,645 10 6 80.6

1998 Kramer, Erik 250 151 1,823 9 7 83.1

1997 Kramer, Erik 477 275 3,011 14 14 74.0

1996 Krieg, Dave 377 226 2,278 14 12 76.3

1995 Kramer, Erik 522 315 3,838 29 10 93.5

1994 Walsh, Steve 343 208 2,078 10 8 77.9

So our 26 year old qb, in his first full season threw for 3000 yards!!!! WAHHH!!! HOW TERRIBLE!!!

Nope. Corey Patterson beat that.

Dear God please tell me that he didn't really say that. Please.

He most certainly did.

I didn't think it was possible for me to hate Boomer any more than I already did. Wow. What a douche bag.

Oh well, I'm sure Boomer was 100% focused and as fully prepared as is humanly possible for every single game he played in his career, no matter how meaningless.

Also, for some reason, it makes me hate the Bengals even more. Yay!

Do you think there's a coorelation between being the first QB to start 16 games and the first since Kramer to throw for 3,000 yards? I mean Kitna threw for over 4,000 yards, but he also led the league in TOs

I found this pic funny

Grossman can't get a break from anyone, even his own coach and teammate.

OK. How about 8 games with a rating over 98?

And 23 TD passes, good for 7th in the NFL.

Yes I agree that when he's looked good he's been good.

Overall for the season:

12th in passing yards

28th in interceptions

24th in QB rating

25th in completion %

20th in YPG

Not terrible, but not great either

I understand that the Bears have question marks...but the media really doesn't like them, do they? I'm just stunned at how much the media is writing this team off. It's like we're a 8-8 team that got in the last slot of the playoffs or something.

I haven't been terribly nervous about this game, but I'm starting to get there just because I've read too much about it.

I have been complaining about this exact thing for a long time. Granted I live in St. Louis where no other teams exsist except the ones who play here, but I watch ESPN, I watch Fox and read nfl.com and all the other sports websites and there is nothing. Even when watching other playoff games and listening to the sportscasters talk about all the other match ups you hear NOTHING about the Bears. It is very frustrating that just because we play in a weak division and the NFC is less than good we still get NO RESPECT. Hello people, we have a 13-3 record AND won home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I know we have a lack luster quarterback at times and a good player that you could read about in the police beat and the sports section but we still have remained a strong contender. I just hope that after Sunday, these guys will have no choice but to mention the Bears. Edited by CubsLadyinSTL

An ESPN mock draft has the Bears selecting:

30. y-Chicago (13-3)

Projected pick: Levi Brown, OT, Penn State

Brown could slip after a disappointing senior season, but it's still tough to find a tackle with his combination of size and agility.

If the Bears don't re-sign Briggs they have no choice but to go LB in the first round. Rufus Alexander is the logical pick, IMO.

But if they do retain Briggs, they will be sitting pretty. They can address various needs such as Oline depth.

I say we draft either O-Line or a Safety and cut Mike Brown. If we cut Mike Brown, I'd even consider trading up to get like LaRon Landry. Also if we cut Mike Brown, we will probably have the space to safely resign Briggs. We'd have a lot of inexperience in the secondary, but Manning should improve next year and the unit will get better as the season progresses.

Between Brown and Thomas Jones' salary, we should be able to retain Briggs. And I want no part of TJ or Brown next season.

Why?

Aside from his salary, sooner or later his annual season-ending leg injury is going to take it's toll on his on the field performance.

I'm fine with the Bears not being given a chance by the media. Make it bulletin board material. It did wonders for the Gators this past Monday.

Right now, the AFC is the darling of the media, so the Bears being in the NFC, plus playing in the conference's worst division, is going to make people write them off. They went 2-2 against the AFC this year. What people fail to write about is that the Bears went 3-1 against playoff teams this year, etc., etc.

I can't agree with this. How many chances did Grossman have inspite of injuries?

I think Browny deserves at least one more shot.

This year's foot injury was bad luck. Breaking your achilles one year, pulling your calf the next, and tearing a foot ligimant getting rolled up in a pile, are not realted in any way. He's not any more likely to get hurt next year because he was hurt in previous years.

In any event, I agree with your conern that his injuries will start taking a toll on his on the field play. Still, I'd rather have him back next year assuming he's healthy as we're unlikely to find anyone better than him in FA or the draft.

I'm not saying they are related, I'm saying that they keep happening, and sooner or later he's going to lose a step.

Say what you want, but medically speaking, they aren't related. Did you see how he got injured this year? How can that possibly be linked to a calf pull?

I believe that with the way Angelo locked up so many players over the past few years, before the salary cap spiked, they will be more than able to afford to keep Jones and Brown, while resigning Briggs. I don't have the numbers, but it seems to me that before the increased cap number, they were already in great position with most of these guys, and the increseased space should just make it that much easier.

I would not consider cutting Jones. He makes very little. And if they can't get a solid draft pick for him, then I'm not interested in a trade either.

I can understand why somebody would want to get rid of Brown. But I think I'd prefer to see them renegotiate his contract (he doesn't have much leverage to go anyplace else) and keep him. Ideally they can keep all their guys, then use the draft to provide quality depth, instead of needing an impact starter right away.

He might not make alot, but when Benson beats him out next training camp, I bet he bitches a ton.

Personally I'd love to get a speed back, (like a Jerious Norwood) to be a counter to Benson. You can find these speciality backs all the time late in the draft.

If he bitches to the point of distraction, then maybe a cut is in order, but I'd much rather trade him, or just keep him as depth, even if he is disgruntled. He wouldn't have much leverage to sit out. He has to fulfill his contract if he wants to be a free agent before 2008. And the Bears wouldn't be in a great position of need since they'd have RB depth.

ESPN's poll says the Bears are the most likely favorite to lose. It's interesting considering they are playing the worst underdog in the playoffs.
