Maybe this opens the door to Mr. Consistent, Jeff Suppan

no, please keep that door closed

I felt just like that about Suppan but some pointed out his numbers and he wasn't that bad. Post all-star last year he had a 2.5ish era.

so because of that we're willing to overlook the other 10 years that he was just an average pitcher? He is what he is, don't go fooling yourself into thinking he's good.

Did you not just say: "I guess I value a league-average pitcher who has made all his starts for five years in a row."?

not for 4/$40M I don't

edit - Garland is 4 years younger than Suppan, too.

Wow, I thought Dayton Moore was going to be a great GM. Why would you be a player in this market unless you were a couple pieces away from being a winning team?

geez...meche has done absolutely nothing to merit that type of deal. in fact, if you just looked at his numbers and ignored the fact that he's supposedly loaded with potential, you wouldn't want to extend anything more than a NRI...low k's, very high bb's, very high hr...awful.

The Gil Meche sweepstakes are over, and the Kansas City Royals are the winners.

ESPN's Steve Phillips reported Thursday that the Royals and Meche have agreed to terms on a 5-year deal, pending a physical. Financial details were not immediately available.

Earlier Thuesday, it was reported that Royals and Meche were working towards a four-year, $45 million deal.

Meche, a six-year veteran, has a career record of 55-44 and a 4.65 earned-run average, all with the Seattle Mariners. He was 11-8 for the Mariners last season with a 4.48 ERA.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs also were in the running for Meche.

5 years.... yeesh

Wow, Dayton. Better hope that Meche can turn it around.

that's a lot of years and a lot of money to spend on a project. especially for the royals.

this signing may be worse than pierre's...

I guess you guys found out how stupid Hendry really is, considering he hasn't really overpaid too much for pitching.

Hope Hendry can get a deal done for Jennings though.

Wow, Hendry has to go to the hospital and that's all it takes for Meche to turn tail and run to the Royals.

Well.....that and a 5 year deal for big bucks.

Kansas City Royals are the winners

Gil Meche’s five-year deal with the Royals will be worth $55 million-$60 million, the Kansas City Star reports.

Incredible. Meche will lead a Kansas City rotation also set to include Odalis Perez. Brian Bannister and Luke Hudson will be the heavy favorites for the next two spots, with Jorge De La Rosa and Zack Greinke among those likely to battle it out for the remaining opening. Dec. 7 - 1:12 pm et
