Quote from Baker concerning the Jones error:

"That's the first time it's happened all year with Jacque," Baker said. "That ball snakes out there."

This double standard just can't be good for the clubhouse. How many times can they listen to Dusty criticize young players (who are obviously going to make mental mistakes), and defend any veteran who does the same?

Jacque Jones has played a terrible RF this year, has made numerous baserunning mistakes and yet excuses are made for him at every turn.

If I'm a position player under 27, I want off this team.

Looks like Dusty ought to post this in the clubhouse:

When taken in context of what was happening in the game, that was probably the worst play of the season, along with Neifi's double-error.

What's really funny is that in the same article he gets on Cedeno for that grounder up the middle where he arguably should have had an out.

"That ball up the middle, we could've handled that situation better -- and just play smarter that's all," Baker said of Cedeno's play.

....

"We gave them some extra outs in that four-run inning, and that hurt us. There were some judgement plays."

As I said earlier, the more this season spirals down the crapper, expect some real gems from Dusty. Some, like this one, will show his blatant hypocricy in dealing with his players. Others will reveal his incoherent thoughts.

Don't get upset. Sit back and enjoy the ride. It will only be painful if he's retained after the season.

i love it that some people still don't think dusty has a double standard.

Speaking of that play, has anyone been seeing Jones' throws lately? The one last night looked like he tried to throw it directly on the ground. Lately the Cubs have been so bad, its comical again.

I noticed that too. Even though Cedeno would've had Rolen with an accurate throw, Jones still spiked it like an NFL wideout.

He was trying to bounce it there. He mistook it for a super ball.

Baker is a walking contradiction in terms. But atleast he will be some other team's walking contradiction in 2007.

There are no guarantees in life. Baker may very well be unemployed in 2007.

That ball snakes out there? What the hell does that even mean?

Instead of just bouncing up, it'll also take a quick right or left. Of course, proper fundamentals (keeping your eye on the ball until after hits your mit) as well hustling to the ball, usually will not allow a runner to go the 16-17 seconds it takes to go around the bases.

"Newman, Kramer, if you'll indulge me. According to your story Keith passes you and starts walking up the ramp then you say you were struck on the right temple. The spit then proceeds to ricochet off the temple striking Newman between the third and forth rib. The spit then cam off the rib turned and hit Newman in the right wrist causing him to drop his baseball cap. The spit then splashed off the wrist, pauses - in mid air mind you - makes a left turn and lands on Newman's left thigh. That is one magic luggie."

This is what I thought of following what UK said about the ball bouncing to the left and right as well as straight up.

I'll take Theriot's idiotic baserunning for $100, Alex.

And the answer is: This Cubs' rookie was recently called out in the press by Dusty Baker due to a base running blunder.

I'm sure he could find work in a comedy club somewhere. Yogi Berra look out, Dusty's on his way.
