I tried going to RedsZone using the link from here. I wanted to see their reaction. However, that site is not working. I think it might have imploded when word of the trade got out.

Meltdown city! I expect much the same with this board when, after a 5 game win streak in late August, it is announced that Dusty has been given a 2-year extension.

i'd say it's usually a pretty good trade when you end up with (arguably) the three best players involved.

I wouldn't say that. Ryan Wagner flat out sucks. I'm not sure I'd take him over Novoa.

What an awful, awful trade for the Reds.

Hopefully there are a couple more teams this desperate for bullpen help that we can take advantage of.

I still can't believe this deal. It almost looks as if the Nats are the contenders and the Reds are in last place.

Did the Reds owe Jim Bowden a favor? The Reds got raped worse than we did in the Pierre deal.

I guess the Reds just figure they have enough offense without Kearns and Lopez and really needed to try and improve their bullpen and defense to make a push for the playoffs with the NL being so weak.

I just figured something out. The GMs have a real life fantasy league, where all proposals are made online. The Reds accidently hit "ACCEPT" instead of "DECLINE", and nobody vetoed the trade in time.

Of course, that theory could mean Jim Hendry doesn't know how to use a computer.

reds gm will be on 'the show' xm 175 in a few minutes. 2 guest hosts (kennedy and ?) think the deal looks a little unbalanced, so they may actually ask some pressing quesions.

I was thinking the exact same thing...this deal looks like one that will make the Nats much better for their "playoff push"

reds gm: b harris is a younger rich aurilia, or a slower ryan freel, versatile. clayton brings a veteran presence, but plays with energy.

this could've been jim hendry talking.

He was...exactly what you expected....said nothing except...we think we got better.

I really do hope this is the market for relievers.

doesn't really matter if it is...hendry's BFF with eyre and howry, who would both (apparently) bring in seven hall of famers each. though williamson's certainly available, and he's not much worse than majewski.

From reading the final page of the thread in regards to this trade, it seems that overall they like the move. A couple reasons that I read were that it improves their bullpen and simply because they have a GM willing to make bold moves.

You realize I would kill for the Cubs to have been the recieving end of this trade.

To get Keans AND Lopez in the same deal for...crap basically? This is the first and only time I can ever remember complimenting Jim Bowden, but that is a fu*kin steal.

This is the kind of deal the Cubs should be doing. Going after guys like Keans, Wilson Betemit of the Braves, Ryan Church of the Nationals, and other young, significantly talented guys their orginization seems to ignore. We would be 10x better, more exciting, cheaper, more fun...

This kind of trade makes me jealous of smarter franchises. The sad thing is Bowden is an idiot, a big one at that, and he's pulling deals like that. WTF is Hendry doing? Getting us guys like Neifi to play everyday, filling the roster with no power, no walk, barely glove players?

I lose more and more hope everyday. The only thing I could see making me smile this season is to see Prior come back fully healthy and dominate . Knowing I'm a Cubs fan, the big guy upstairs won't let that happen.

This is the worst trade I have seen in a long time, probably since Hundley for Grudzielanek/Karros.

Really? Most of the posts I've read are in the camp of, "I do not like this deal, but we're going to have to wait and see." Neither Bray nor Majewski is spectacular, but they should improve the Reds bullpen, which has been their downfall this season. However, the Reds lost a lot offensively.

Lopez and Wagner have been struggling, but Kearns has terrific value. Denorfia sounds like a decent young player, but he's not as good as Kearns. The Reds overpaid for decent relievers.

The Nationals made out really well in this deal. Should be fun to see what they get for Soriano and/or Guillen.

I think there is a transition in the thread from immediately disliking it into justifying it to their benefit since there is nothing they can do but accept it.

Edit to add quotes from REdZone.com

Here's a few of the ones I read in favor of the trade........

Now the initial shock has worn off, I don't think the trade was that bad. I get the feeling that Felo '06, rather than '05 is more like the real Felo. Kearns is injury prone, and has never been close to the player he was before the King thing. i doubt Wagner will ever live up to the hype.

The trade would be better if Clayton wasn't in it. BP should be SS right now. However, it helps the BP, and gives Deno a spot to play. Just don't go trading Dunn, Wayne.

We have a GM who is willing to make bold moves and I really like that.

Whoa This is the biggest one in years... I too was shocked at the return but calming down it might make some more sense. We didn't trade Dunn or BP or EE -- whew...

I'm guilty of being attached to Kearns' potential and what he was back in 2002 at the age of 22. Ditto Lopez and his 2005 breakout. In reality they may be average starters with quickly escalating salaries.

Don't these two look like upstanding citizens? :)

I don't think this is as bad as some people are making it out to be. Lopez looks like he's a pretty good player, but Kearns is having a solid but unspectacular season in what has been a very tumultuous career.

In return the Reds got a couple of good, young arms for the pen and an underused and probably underappreciated infielder. Depending on Cinci's options in the OF and at short, this may not be a bad deal for them.
