    If the Cubs are going to make the playoffs they need Zambrano to start pitching well...I don't see any reason to trade Zambrano until the Cubs fall out of contention

    I agree Harvey or Burgess would have been a pick with much more upside, I think that pick had a lot more to do with the price tag then anything else And that's what pisses me off most about it. I agree 100% with you, a team that can spend 136 mil on soriano, 40 mil on lilly, 21 mil on marquis cant dish out a little extra money to a prospect with a high upside? It was very frustrating to watch

    That's a huge red flag for me. The guy isn't going to learn plate discipline with the Cubs, and he isn't going to handle those pitches against pros. If we have another 4:1 K:BB guy on our hands, he won't help at all. its a real red flag when a prospect is compared to vlad guerrero.... All of these people against Vitters seem to only be looking at the fact that he may swing at some bad pitches and nobody looks at all the raving about his bat and that many scouts consider him the best high school hitter

    Disappointed moreso, but yes. im disappointed in the lack of high upside players taken in general. it was the strength of the draft and we completely avoided it. terrible I believe that this is because the Cubs were not allowed to spend money and it will not be a sign of Wilken's drafts in the future (or maybe im just being very hopeful), what does everyone else think? they weren't overdrafting all of the players. thomas wasnt much of one and neither was donaldson. they probably could have nabbed another guy for the same price I'm not saying they were overdrafting but it can be hard to sign high celing guys for little money, personally if they were gonna go for a catcher with that pick i would have preferred mitch canham over donaldson

    I'm not trying to sound like I know everything or a prick, and I know you have been keeping this thread going but I was just curious how much scouting of all these players you have done and how you can be so sure all these cubs picks are so bad? Also remember you dont have to worry about signing players where the Cubs do

    I think a lot of this draft just has to do with the unfortunate scenario that the Trib is selling the cubs and there is no buyer yet...I liked the picks of Vitters and Thomas, I saw Barney play this year and he is very smooth defensively but hsi bat is definitely behind his glove, and as for picking a catcher I would have really preferred Barney's teammate Mitch Canham

    Not a lot of feasting going on. There is plenty of feasting going on...unfortunately its just everyone feasting on the cubs

    The Marlins still had Beckett, Burnett, Penny, and Pavano in his best season. They also happened to have a worse DLee then we have right now. We do not have a dominant pitching staff and even if we traded Dlee and ramirez for top prospect pitchers there is no guarantee they would pan out. The cubs dont have the best track record of developing pitchers.

    I'm pretty sure trading DLee and Ramirez would get this team nowhere. Top prospects are no guarantee to pan out. I'd much rather keep guys who have a proven track record and are still in the prime of their career like DLee and Ramirez.

    When's the last time you saw a fielder making a play on a ball when a runner passes him and yells to confuse him ? T-Ball maybe ? I saw my fair share of trickery in the college game. I'm sure you did. I will defer to your wisdom on the subject. Hidden ball tricks, deeks, etc are part of the game. Not yelling in someones ear as you pass them and they try to catch a ball. What is the difference between a hidden ball trick and yelling in someones ear? Both are meant to deceive the other team/player. ARod was doing what he felt was necessary to help his struggling team.

    Jim Hendry is not the one making the lineups. I do like the idea of throwing a lefty in between Lee and Ramirez to balance out the lineup, unfortunately the way this team is constructed we just dont have any good options to do that.

    For him to go back and uncork his bat and not walk out on the team at the end of the season and to not complain when Dusty wanted to drop him in the order when he couldn't hit at all anymore.

    If there is one positive to this I would have to say it is good to see that the players are at least taking some responsibility for the bad play and not just finding others to blame.

    I don't get the why we still have to win ballgames line...it sounds like hes saying theriot can't help them win ballgames which then raises the questions why would you even bring the guy up? Does Dusty ever think about what hes saying?

    The Cubs better get Z locked up soon before he starts getting ideas about seeing offers from someone like the Yankees.
